I haven't seen "middle guard" used in quite some time.  I expect Frank Uible will be in here shortly to share a history lesson or two on the term.

RC:

I'll go ahead and be an intial "poor substitute" for Frank!  Ah, "middle guards" - a great position.  I loved those defenses that had them.  As far as history concerning that, and there are many great examples, the two best MG's I ever saw were Don Warner of Univ of Michigan and the late Dave Yeiter of Hope College, both from the early to mid-1970's.  Both were all-conference players, Warner a walk-on for 3 years before winning his scholarship and starting position his senior year.  While smaller, stockier players, those guys routinely were in the backfield disrupting the handoff between the QB and RB's; in a couple of instances, grabbing a handoff from a QB so quick I couldn't believe it.  Now that was something to see!

Yes, now we'll await hearing from our veteran poster Frank! :)

Skunk, Jr., and I are making the trek to Ada.  Anyone else heading that way?  Anyone tailgating?

I am interested in seeing if ONU can step up their game, and give Mount a battle.

I think I'm heading over on Saturday.  hopefully early enough to grab a couple of the dozen or so bleacher seats on the visitor side

I have to agree with you raiderguy,
LK likes Tyler as well & I think he's going to get a lot of touches this game. I don't think you can count Lemmon or Panchik out of the mix though, they each have their own style. I think Morring is a great run blocker, but following his leg problem last year, he just seems to lack that burst into the hole and ability to break free. I still believe MUC will have to be a two headed snake this week in order to really raise havoc and melt down the Bears.

Let's have a Raiderday !! ;D

Kevin is tall, skinny, quick and smart. He's won out the job from the more traditional sized D linemen. He had what was credited as a fumble recovery last week that was actually a mid-air pitch interception. 5' 6" and 102 in full pads there ain't much to him to block. Middle Guard?

I say let's continue to use the pass to set up the run.  ::)

on the topic of traveling to the ONU game, where is the best place to park for the game?  I remember going there a couple of years ago and parked way too far away.  Thanks

I will be surprised if ONU scores more than 10 points against a great Mount Union defense, and I dont really think they will score that. On the other hand, nobody practices pass offense like the Raiders do and ONU is not going to be able to stop them. The Raiders will win big.

Purple,

I think you might be right, any prediction of a score?

There will be lots of parking on either the west side of the stadium (home side) or in auxiliary parking lots on the south side of the stadium near the president's house.  I think they have land west of the road that the stadium is on too (used to be farmland) that can be used for overflow parking but I'm not positive of that one.

Brings back memories of my sons midget football games! We were a couple of bodies short at practice one day and could not do any quality preparation for the game. So we took a coulpe of dads and acted as placeholders on defense. We took a kid with a body type that said chess club president...and lined him up at nose tackle just to get some practice in. SURPRISE! UNBLOCKABLE. Too quick, too smart, too hungry for playing time. The kid made the all star team at nose tackle spotting his opposition a 25% weight advantage. Lesson learned...never hand out positions based on body type. Let all kids show what they can do and game plan off of that.
