Better than MUU.

It seems these days that being a "university" is more attractive than being a "college."  If the school is on the right track academically I don't think it matters what they call themselves.  But if "university" sells better then go ahead and make the change - seems like everybody else is (we're playing Muskingum University this weekend) so why not join the pack.  As long as they don't change to The University of Alliance I can live with it.  ( It will require new lyrics for the alma mater.)

any Otters know anything about Rafferty's rumored injury?  I have heard that he is out for the big ONU game this week with a broken finger, wondering if anyone can confirm or deny this?

edit: Seems like its true according to OTT football website, tough loss for the Cards

Mount Union College rumored to be considering a change to:

"The University of Mount Union"

Don't know if veteran alums will be too excited about this one...

stay tuned...  any opinions out there??

Would probably signal the last penny I send to them. A couple of million to change everything wouldn't be exactly great stewardship right now. If anybody would want to rush to change wouldn't it be COW. Two infant graduate programs do not a University make. I'm still frustrated the computer department didn't finish the push for a graduate program. Was half the reason I was back at Mount in 2002. Nothing ever happened. How about a Facebook cause against changing the name. Could be like the City of Hudson Village,  the University at Mount Union College

UMU

The rumors are true, but the name will not be the University of Mount Union.

I am sure many remember the letters MTU on the ESPN score updates
during the last few years playoffs. The Board supports the name change
coupled the fact that Mount now has a Masters program and will add
engineering in the fall of 2010.

In an effort to compete for those potential students, it is felt that all these
things point to the change from a college to a university. As an alum
with alot of MUC family history I have mixed feelings, but understand the
logic that is driving it. October is probably when it will be announced.

And what the MUC ??

And the only reason my daughter wants to go to Mount is the small town feeling. University would just be dumb.

I didn't realize changing the name also changed the size of the town and the school?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Good one.

of the campus.  ;) Not sure I want her experiencing the "small town" feel of Alliance north of Overlook. That's ok, we still gotta to go HU in Tiffin and Farmville U. in Wilmington.

There are plenty of universities smaller than many colleges.  A university sounds bigger (which may be their intent), but it ain't necessarily so.

Changing the name won't automatically change the size.

I don't like the idea at all.

It would be a shame.

The University at Mount Union College would be OK

Doesn't Ohio State own the right to "THE"?

Seventies,

Keep the faith, The college or university with the name Mount Union
will  still provide legacy credit to help the economics if your daughter
goes there.

I wonder how they will change all the seals etc.

Dr. Acula

Am I the only one who's driven batty looking at the class column in the stats on oac.org?  They need to remove it considering half of them are wrong.  It has Kyle Simmons listed as a freshman!  But it also has Cecil listed as a junior, which wouldn't be all bad... ;D

Dr. Acula

On the name change....as an alum I honestly don't care as long as it's still Mount Union in the name.  But if it costs money, don't come ask me for any to cover it.  My only question is if small schools keep changing names to universities, then wouldn't any perceived advantage be lost by virtue of everyone else being a university as well?
