I don't know Sidekick, Dubs has a new D-Coordinator, one of the few things they DIDN'T NEED. Like ONU it does seem to be their game plan against Mount, throw everything at the offense and try to make their own luck. Granted, sitting back and letting Shorts roam wouldn't be much of a plan

I would give a certain bodypart to be Mount's QB this week throwing to Shorts, Claycombe and Petruziello if BW throws the kitchen sink at MUC offense.  I would be calling for "scissors" all day and motioning Shorts across the formation so his route is the wheel part of the "scissors" (and he has a running start).... and then throw it as long as I can down the sideline.  Dimes!

and a 6'5, 230lbs TE named Judd Harrold. Get him one on one with a 5'10" 185 lbs corner

70s.... I would ALWAY "O" the tight end... meaning keep him in to block with the RBs.  If you put 4 guys in the pattern vs a big blitz... your QB is gonna get killed.  You all will be wondering how the kid from FL will react to John Carroll in a few weeks.  You need to keep at least 7 blockers in to protect.

We always went with 8... one of our Z's.... was 6'5 and ran a 4.4 at 195 lbs.  He was perfect for the long ball (we called him Moss) but couldn't catch a curl... go figure.  TE (my roomy) would get pissed when he heard me call "O" before anything... that meant he was a glorified offensive lineman on that play...

ONU utlized the black on black when I was there and omitted the orange completely.  I thought it was kind of cool but admit that I loved the orange jerseys when they returned for a game or two a year.  I love the look ONU has had for the last couple years but admit a return to the all-black would be cool once in a while too.

Saintsfan - Two weeks til ONU/BW game.  Are we still on?  I think I may have some family joining me for the trip to Ada but don't know for sure yet.

Yessir.  We are still on.  I'm bringin my girlfriend with me (finally found a girl that i didn't mind waking up to the next morning after meeting her)

Pretty excited about Ada.... then I'm headed to MUC later in the year.

Let me call my insider up there and let him know its on.  He said he would entertain us after the game too for a bit.

I'll get at you on facebook.

RC, at one point didn't ONU go w/ all black including plain black helmets?  Or am I crazy?  I thought I remembered them wearing all black w/ the only "color" being the white "Northern" and numbers on their jerseys.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to.  We went all black, with white letters and number, no decals, black socks.  Road uni's were all white with black letters and numbers and solid black helmet.  Very "mean-machine" looking.  After Kaz, they added the orange jersey for one or two games a year (sponsored by the N-Men's Club: local football alumni group).  They had a block "N" for a couple seasons before adopting the current helmet decal.

Sigh.....I can remember the days when B-W week meant talking about the game and worrying about the outcome.  Now?  It's just talking about what color pants Mount will wear while pissing on the Flaming Pile.  Oh, how B-W has fallen......

On the uniform subject, the only combo I don't like is black jerseys on the white pants they wore in the last Stagg.  Looked like Whitewater was playing an intra-squad scrimmage >:(
My favorites are either white over purple or the reverse.

First, as a UWW fan, I know my opinion matters not, but that's never stopped me before.  ;D

First thought about the "Black Out" night is that it's a cool thing. I think it's kind of fun for fans to come and be part of an atmosphere where there is a special emphasis like that. My second thought is that any time you play MUC, you are in for the challenge of the year. Playing AT Mount is that much harder. Playing AT Mount at night has to be even harder (if the atmosphere is what many college night games bring). Playing AT Mount at night on "Black Out Night"...good luck on that B-W.

Secondly, watching the Garcon interview, I have to admit he came off way more likable than I would like to think he is. Maybe he just hates UWW  ???  I know for sure, whatever happened in the back and forth on the field, our guys don't hold him in the same high regard (as a person, not as a player) as they do Micheli, Kmic, Shorts, and others.

Hope everyone has fun at the game and that there may be no injuries on either team!

Black out sounds like a winner.  Does that mean we will have a black chicken?????

Hey BleedPurple......don't think your little "back-handed compliments", and your little digs have gone unnoticed.  To be honest, I haven't deemed it worth responding until now.  It's a boring night on TV.

As far as Garcon is concerned.....trust me.....if I had a guy that burnt me as much as he did.....I wouldn't like him much either...especially with his swagger.  But know this.......there are guys that were on those '05/'06/'07 WW teams that Mount players had a less than warm and fuzzy feeling about.....oh well.....that is competition, especially football.

All that being said.......I hope WW runs the table and Mount does the same.......let's just "do it".   ;)

Interesting you would respond to this post and bring up back handed digs. I meant everything I said in this post. My digs (forehand and backhand), if you will notice, are normally in response to what I think is either an unwarranted "shot" at UWW or Mount Union fan arrogance. Often the MUC fan shots come from a couple of guys who like to come into the WIAC thread and take a shot when it has nothing to do with MUC. Some digs and arrogance come here on your "home turf". In this post, there was not one thing meant as sarcasm or a shot at anyone. The statement I made about Garcon was actually meant as a compliment. I thought the guy came off well. I tried to differentiate between the feelings guys had about him as a person or as a player. He definitely burned UWW. He is a phenomenal talent. He's currently burning NFL corners. No surprise he would have burn ours. And he did. As far as all that being said, I couldn't agree more. If UWW is fortunate enough to run the table, I would love for them to play Mount again. WIAC has a couple of legitimate threats to keep that from happening. Teams from Linfield and MHB and maybe even Iowa or Minnesota could have a say in that. Unfortunately, I'm not in position yet to "just do it". But believe me, I would love nothing more.

As far as TV, "Weird, True, and Freaky" is on right now on Animal Channel. Oh, does Alliance have even have cable? (OK, that was unwarranted, but didn't want to ruin your perception of me!  ;D)

skunks_sidekick

BP....ok....now that was something I can work with....I like your response!  ;D

MHB...absolutely........Linfield?????  Don't they have to MAKE the play-offs before we can even talk about them.  It's been a while........

St. Johns has been an enigma since 2003......WW has had a lot to do with that.  Central???  I think they are in the same boat as some of the others......at least get to the semi's and compete before being mentioned as a contender.

So now that Stevens Point is a pretender.......does LAX become the new/old main competition in your conference, or does SP still have it in them to make the WW game competitive?

Oh.....I don't live in Alliance........how often do you eat cheese?   :D

Small but Slow

When Bill Schroeder played for GB I felt a certain pride having seen him play for LAX against MUC.  Too bad some WWW guys are jealous of PG's success.

It's a shame B-W week has lost its relevance.   When MUC was first fighting for its place at the top of the OAC beating the Jackets really meant something.  The 1985 game was a major turning point in the Purple Raiders rise to the top.  It was an electric environment right down to the goalpost coming down. . .  on top of a student's head.  We weren't used to winning big games yet and needed practice celebrating.

Regarding Linfield, maybe I've read too many posts on the Northwest Conference board. Still have nightmares of a SUPER CLOSE game a few years ago when UWW eeked out a win out there in the playoffs. They had some stud QB that was pretty scary.

I think my respect/caution regarding St. John's and Central expose my age more than anything. But even in recent years, both teams strike me as teams that usually have good defenses and good coaching. Teams like that always scare me.

I am still not completely convinced Point is a pretender. I have been shocked so far for sure. Maybe they are imploding. But I watched last years game in which they weren't even scary until the last drive and scored to beat a sloppy UWW! That game reminded me it's one week at a time. I was grateful UWW even made the playoffs with a loss. Putting it in the committee's hands is always pretty scary. Speaking of scary, UW-LC is for sure. They may be back with a vengeance.  UWW has a long time hate/hate relationship with them that goes back to the early 70's. UWW competes hard and won't back down from Mount Union, but respects the heck out of them. Truth be told,  UW-LC, not so much. Oh the team respects them just like they respect every single opponent they face each week. The fans simply hate them (in a loving sort of way..nah we pretty much hate them).

As far as cheese, my typical day would include a cheese covered and filled omelette to start the day. Low fat Mozzarella sticks for a morning snack, a lunch that includes several cheese sandwiches, cheese curds in the afternoon, pizza for dinner with cheesecake for dessert.  Outside of being ever so slightly overweight and not having had a bowel movement in 25 years, I feel like my diet has served me well. When out of state visitors come to the Perk for playoff games, they always wonder why the men's room only has urinals...

I'd like to believe your strategy of inflamatory remarks to stir the Pile and make it an interesting game might work.   :-\

I'm not sure jealous is the right word. When you love to hate someone, it's hard to love to love them. And it's not about being burned by him. I would love it if some of the other MUC stars were in the NFL. Only getting a glimpse of him in the emotion of the biggest game of the year definitely made it hard to be unbiased. And I don't claim to be. And I don't deny that there may be UWW players the MUC guys feel the same way about, I wouldn't know. But for whatever reason, he didn't seem to have the typical MUC/DIII attitude to me. But I'm trying... I even showed the video to my 14 year old son and told him he seems like a good guy. He just walked away, but I'll keep on working on him  8)
