believe me, as a Mount fan, I would rather drive to Slippery Rock than Wisconsin...

THis arrogant fan stuff cracks me up.  I am surprised by the "stones" it takes to make outrageous comments when you:
1. are not on the Mount football team
2. have never been on the Mount football team
3. have never been on a football team
4. have never stepped on a football field

Obviously, being a player doesn't make you the best source of info or advice, but those never having been part of the program, (and I am not part of the program) that are primarily boosters or spectators (me) should be very careful when making comments that reflect negatively on Raider football and Raider nation.
Look upon the success of the program with pride and appreciation, not arrogance or expectation

PS.  If any of you know Garcon....tell him that he will continue to get the attention and adoration of many as long as he keeps his head on straight...

Look to set the record straight I have played football - HS not college (went in the army after HS and did not want to play when I went back for college 5 years later) - and I don't know where the arrogance crap is coming from. The comment was what BW could do against Mount and my reply (after laying out what I would do) was basically they could pray and had no real shot. If that is arrogant then whatever. Realistically, BW does not have a shot this year and I think everyone knows that. When the arrogance crap came in I shot back that Mount fans have the right to believe Mount is the favorite and the right to let everyone know. I never even used the phrase 'Mount fans have the right to be arrogant' or this team sucks and so does that one. For the record - my karma has suffered ever since. However, I don't really care about that since I believe in what I posted. If fans did not let other fans know their team was better and was going to win - then what the hell is the purpose of a borad to talk football? Is this just going to be Xs and Os talk?

Im not arrogant.....sometimes euphoric to an annoying degree.....but not arrogant. There is a difference. If there were an arrogant emoticon, I wonder what it would look like? Any ideas guys?

Looks like another weekend of snorkeling with the Raiders. The running game better be working. Im afraid that if it came down to pounding the ball in the rain to win,we might be at a disadvantage. Slashers we got....battering rams, I dunno.

I'm confident, but not arrogant... but thats just the way I am.  I'm not a MUC fan.  But I am a fan of what they've been able to accomplish since LK took over.

desertraider,

I said before your post on the BW was spot on, and I dd not believe
anything but football knowledge and knowing the Raiders. Those who
believe that we alums and fans are arrrogant are just out of touch.

We have just been back in the area for 7 years and as an alum and former
Raider player and season ticket holder, I agree with the observations regarding B-W and the OAC. Mount's tradition during Coach Kehres's era goes well beyond just the OAC and D3 football. It is something that few schools in all of football achieve, and for many doubters, they cannot accept the premise that we Mount supporters know a few things and articulate them based upon experience and confidence.

Raiderpa,

The weather for Saturday is supposed to be dry, but I did hear of rain earlier. The running game should be fine!

Until President Obama is able to fully implement his plan, I'm not sure who is in charge of bestowing arrogance entitlements. But he will probably be in control of that too. I just thought it might be fun for a follower of one of the few teams not afraid of Mount to challenge it a little bit!

This made me spit up my cereal onto the keyboard.

Kinda like this:

Dr. Timothy McCarthy while receiving a medical award for creativity, reported his findings to the Fellows of Plastic Surgery, concluding with this case study: "Several years ago a woman was high on cocaine and marijuana and she rode a horse head-on into a train traveling 80 miles an hour. All I had left to work with was the woman's hair and the horse's ass. I was able to put them together and now she's Speaker of the House

Now MY keyboard is ruined! Has the Cash for Klunker Keyboard program started yet or are staffers of the President still finishing up the behind the scene paperwork required to make him the Commissioner of the NFL, MLB,, NBA, NHL, and NCAA?

Finally a D1 playoff in our sights!

BP...comment was not directed at anyone, just a general statement...some of us Mounties get carried away sometimes...we do get accused of being too cocky and arrogant...sometimes we deserve it...I try to avoid...just along for the fun ride and tailgating

Although Panchik has been doing a good job, my money is still on Lemmon to be the next "closest thing" to Pugh, Moore, etc...Kmic was omitted for obvious reasons...can't compare Nate anyone to him at the moment..
He shows great qualities of quickness, patience, change of direction, and that special burst when he needs it...

that spit up on the keyboard comment was great haha

Thanks raiderpa, but my keyboard is still angry with me.. That's what I get, though.. And yes, reality check, I DO eat a lot.  So what?

I received this email today:

Mount Union Board of Trustees Unanimously Votes to Change to University

Members of the Mount Union Community,

After careful review of data gathered through numerous research efforts and thoughtful consideration and discussion, the Mount Union College Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to change the designation of the institution from "college" to "university."

In the coming months, the administration will gather research and perceptions about how the "university" label should be incorporated with the Mount Union name.  Findings will be reported to the Board of Trustees in January.  The institution also will embark on a rebranding effort that will be simultaneously launched with the designation change, further propelling the visibility and reputation of the institution.  Both initiatives will be officially implemented effective August 1, 2010.

Throughout the past few months, alumni, donors, faculty, staff and current students have played a critical role in the research process.  The members of the Board of Trustees sincerely thank all of those individuals who shared their insights, passions and perspectives.

As the institution moves forward with the change, it is important to emphasize that those enduring characteristics we all cherish will continue to be hallmarks of the Mount Union experience.  Mount Union will remain focused on attracting quality students and faculty, providing a sense of community and focusing on a well-rounded education combined with the practical experience critical to career success.  All the while, the institution will continue to honor the history and tradition that provide the foundation upon which we build.

The decision to change the designation from "college" to "university" is one that is based on a strong rationale.  Throughout the research process, significant themes emerged.  Stemming from these themes are a number of reasons why this change will be beneficial to Mount Union and its future.  We encourage you to read more about these reasons, as well as the current climate in higher education and the research efforts and findings of the past few months.  The members of the Board of Trustees found this information to be compelling, informative and relevant.

This effort positions Mount Union to be more competitive in the marketplace of higher education, yet the process itself has nonetheless been emotionally challenging.  As members of the Mount Union community, our hearts are connected to the place we fondly refer to as "Dear Old MUC," yet our minds need to be guided by the vision of a Mount Union that is relevant, proactive, successful and forward thinking.  It is possible to forge ahead while remaining true to the past.  Very simply, Mount Union is all about the personal approach, and that essence will never change.

Sincerely,

The Mount Union Board of Trustees

Just about the post the same e-mail. I almost threw up when I read the subject. I am sorry, but it is a sad day in the history of Mount Union College.

I hope you weren't near your keyboard.  There's a lot of that going around.

I bought a crapload of MUC stuff at the bookstore when in Ohio two months ago.

Do I ask for refunds or has it increased in value???   ???

I'd say almost certainly the latter.

MUC has 10 national championships.

UMU or MUU or whatever hasn't won squat! ;D

This was a post I added on 9-24-09:

The rumors are true, but the name will not be the University of Mount Union.

I am sure many remember the letters MTU on the ESPN score updates
during the last few years playoffs. The Board supports the name change
coupled the fact that Mount now has a Masters program and will add
engineering in the fall of 2010.

In an effort to compete for those potential students, it is felt that all these
things point to the change from a college to a university. As an alum
with alot of MUC family history I have mixed feelings, but understand the
logic that is driving it. October is probably when it will be announced.

I got the same email as Kirasdad:

Now 10-2-09

This decision moved quicker than normal, and the Board met today. Now we
know and we will have a new name by year's end.  The change begins
but for many it will not be the same. An announcement post Homecoming
would have been better IMHO.
