I've read most, if not all, the dialogue regarding the official name change at Mount Union College. I'd prefer not to involve myself since I feel that's better left to the alumni and other "friends" of the institution. But, I just wanted to leave you with some food for thought from an American living abroad.  I've lived overseas for more than 20 years; I can tell you that a school with the title "College" attached has a very negative connotation among many potential international students.  Especially here in Korea, my home for the past 16 years, you'd be hard-pressed to find a student willing to attend anything other than a school with "University" associated with it. To a Korean, a College is a 2 year school, like a technical or trade school.  In the Korean educational system, getting a low score on the nationwide university entrance exam as a High School senior, means you will end up at a "College," for two years, if you go at all. A student in this boat has virtually no chance of landing in at a domestic "University."  Of course it's only semantics to us, but to a potential international student considering a life-changing decision like going abroad for education, name does make a huge difference.
Thanks for the international perspective.  Sometimes we forget that people of different cultures do not see the world through the same eyes we do in our little corner of the world.  The negative connotation associated with American names has been an issue since we became a global market.  The Chevy Nova struggles in Spanish speaking countries since it translated into "don't go."
Interesting.  Thanks for both posts.
I work less than a mile from Reed College.  I know Reed is one of the lucky exceptions that has no problem attracting foreign students; nor does my son's girlfriend's alma mater, Grinnell College, which has a huge percentage of Asian students.  Being among the top liberal arts colleges in the country has its advantages.
Today, most 4-year colleges are probably be better off calling themselves universities, especially if they have a few graduate programs.
That being said, I'd never discourage a student who was considering attending Dartmouth College or Boston College, two top universities that will never change their names for different reasons.  The latter is kind of obvious.  There already is a Boston University.  The former is a longer story and a famous court case in New Hampshire, which I won't go into here.

The statistical matchup between Cap & MUC seems pretty even.  With Assman healthy and playing effectively the Crusaders appear poised to present a true challenge to Mount's OAC dominance.  It may come down to coaching, and its tough to bet against LK.  With all the questions circling the Raiders QB situation I expect the true #1 QB to step up and take the reins.  LK has had four games plus preseason to make the decision.  If Seaman is ready expect him to be given the ball when it matters most.  Rocco has solid passing numbers but expectations are high.  If he doesn't deliver big then Seaman will probably have the opportunity to make the offense his own.

Mount QB:
Does Brett Favre have any college eligibility left?  He could come to Mount and study engineering if he does.  ;D
Was he just sick last night or what?  That guy can pass as well as anyone ever.
Happy birthday to Brett this Saturday.  He'll be 40.

Had to share this:
On October 5, with a 30-23 victory over the Green Bay Packers, his former team, Favre became the first quarterback in NFL history to defeat every one of the league's 32 franchises.  Monday night's game between Minnesota and Green Bay was the most-viewed television program, sports or otherwise, in the history of cable television. The game drew a 15.3 rating and had 21.8 million viewers.

Other than Monday night's victory, I can't verify either of above claims.  I got this from a sometimes unreliable source that shall go nameless.

The announcers last night on tv also said that Favre is the first qb to defeat all 32 teams.  I would trust that fact.

Welp, looks like Trusnik is going to be a Brown. ;D

"The Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets on Wednesday morning, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Jets agreed to send key special teams player Jason Trusnik and draft picks to Cleveland, Schefter reported. Terms of the deal were still being finalized early Wednesday."

Here's a link on the Trusnik trade - I refuse to give Braylon top billing in the deal.

per Otterbein's QB...

I think we're capable of winning out and going deep into the playoffs," said Schlosser. "Mount's a tough team and I'm sure everybody on our team knows that's going to be our biggest game, but I think they're beatable this year. I've seen them in a couple films that we watched on Ohio Northern and they kind of look like they've got a down year going.

Quick piece of advice never ever as a current player make a statement like this.  I will take Mount plus 40.

....and this quote is by the quarterback (Schlosser?) who is playing solely due to an injury (Raferty?)???? Wow, there may not be enough room on the lockers for this quote in a few weeks.

While I agree this wasn't the smartest thing to say, especially with Cap on the schedule before Mount, I kind of like this kid's confidence.  He's stepped in and played well.  I'll be interested to see how he responds when he faces adversity like he will against Cap/MUC.  The lesson he could learn from MUC is that he should only be talking about, thinking about and caring about beating BW this weekend.  The MUC game means nothing if you stumble in Berea.

reality check

It will be very cool for Trus to play so close to home.  He's going to be playing for Mangini who loved him from the start but I am a little concerned because Rex Ryan's defense was one that Trus had a chance to be more impactful in IMO.  The Browns are getting a stud special teamer and I think they get the edge in this trade.  Two draft picks for Edwards and his attitude is more than fair.  Adding in Stuckey and Trus means Mangini got the better end of this deal for sure.  Now we just have to hope Mangini stays around long enough to matter.

If that is the case,  why has Mount Union College had so many foreign (mostly asian) students over the past 15 years?

There are a large number of Japanese students due to their sister school (Baika) in Osaka.  The majority of the Japanese students I met were from Baika.

OK thanks... that makes sense

Thats what strikes me here... his level of confidence.  Thats a good thing for a QB to have... sounds like the troops have rallied around him already.  Though, I don't think Otterbein will take the ball "right down the field" on MUC.

Where, might I ask, did this quote come from??

raiderpa

Perhaps the Otterbein backup QB was watching the offensive tapes of the Mount games and not  the Defensive reels...
I would not want to tick off this defense that Mount puts on the field...been watching the Raiders since late 60's and have seen few, defenses  that measures up to this one for talent and speed...
