"I will need to remember that" was my thoughts to RCs Hall of Fame story (both literally and figuratively in this case- since it was clutch).. Very funny, I didn't want to be the one to tell it, so credit would go where credit was due.. And it wasn't so bad spending a day with a C-J grad..

Had to explain to the girlfriend on the way home that I had never "met" RC before.. "that's just how we roll on the OAC Page, sweetheart"

Just another day in Ah-da..

I was really hopeful someone else would point out how right I was about Rocco but no one did.  It sent a chill up my spine to see the new QB become a real life Mount Union quarterback.  The offense is taking shape and should be very good by playoff time.  I was at the Cap game ,and I certainly defer to the coaches who saw the game, but it seemed to me Cap executed very well a good game plan.  Mount Union took a big step toward becoming an LK championship football team.

but back to D3 football, with the Berg moving games on campus, is the Mount game on of those?

guess I shoud have mentioned that it's for the 'Ette and Musky games. Mount is out at old F-K stadium which is actually way nicer in recent years.

I smiled when my daughter pointed out the game ball from the Stagg Bowl at Heidleberg and then noticed it was from 1972. Smiled even more when I realized Heidelberg has as many as Whitewater

Before 1973 the Stagg Bowl was a regional championship game. That isn't a national championship -- in fact, there was none then.

Forget the polls and who is number one.Hells Bells ---Larry Kehres won Stagg Bowls 1996,1997,1998 with so called less talent than Rowan and Lycoming .Larry Kehres and the Mount Union Purple Raiders of Alliance Ohio continue to be just like Smuckers peanut butter and Smuckers jelly-------SIMPLY THE BEST .Say what ---coach Kehres like 276-21-3 in 24 years----WOW and 10 Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowls---.Kehres knows how to win with the talent he has playing "team ball"  from year to year.Anybody that doubts that is SIMPLY A FOOL !! The only way to find out if Whitewater is better than Mount is to stay tuned and see if they can roll the playoffs and get to Salem Va.

You had a great post going until you went to the 1997 team against Lycoming.  Lycoming?  Seriously?  Lycoming was easily the worst of the Stagg opponents going against the best MUC team.  That one was over before it even started.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Actually the majority are and if they aren't they ****ing need to grow up.  Also if the HS, College and other coaches and parents didn't spoil them and let them act like petulant assholes maybe they would be adults.

I chalk a lot of it up to the media as well.  What makes the highlight reels?  Ever since the end zone dances started, showboating has been glorified.  Watch any commercial for an NFL game or the clips when they cut to commercial.  They'll show a dazzling play (not usually the BEST play, but the SHOWIEST) and then they'll show a few guys showboating.  Some after a tackle or sack, some after a touchdown, etc., but the showboating makes the highlight reels.  Other players know this, kids see this, and it is self-perpetuating.

I don't think TV is bad in and of itself, but I think the people producing many of the shows aren't doing society any favors.  We wonder why so many kids have ADHD and are restless these days.  Watch any sports show on FOX.  Other networks are following suit as well.  Something is always flashing, robot football players are clashing, animated helmets slamming, little lights flashing around the score, things can't just appear on the screen, they need a fancy transition, etc.  Even cuts from one shot or camera angle to another...especially in commercials for other TV shows, don't just change or fade to black, there's a white flash between them (most noticeable if you aren't looking at the screen and you see a bright flash in the room).  EVERYTHING has to be moving all the time on the screen, and I believe it messes with people's minds...sensory overload or something.

Of course, the people (both fans and players) don't have to buy into it...but there's always going to be a sizable portion that will (just like advertising crappy products sells them).

OK, enough rambling, sorry...back to D3 football.

From the Indy Star on 10-12-09 in answer to line up changes:

"And while Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon have really contributed, Gonzo is a veteran who has a much better grasp of the offense. What will be interesting is to see how the Colts juggle the offensive lineup. My guess is Gonzo returns to the right-side starting spot and Collie remains as the slot guy in the three-receiver set. That would mean offensive coordinator Tom Moore will have to find some snaps for Pierre Garcon. In both cases, it's a nice problem to have. A team never can have too many good players."

Let's hope the OAC guy PG will continue to contribute when Gonzo returns
as the starter!

it will be interesting to see what happens when Gonzalez comes back.  Ideally, Pierre and Reggie Wayne are better suited for the outside, and Gonzalez and Collie in the slot with Clark.  Pierre may not start any longer but he will get plenty of PT, especially with being the best run-blocking WR on the team

Small but Slow

IMHO the worst effect the highlight reel shows has is on youth sports.  Kids see the excessive celebrations and protests and think its acceptable.  Problem is most youth coaches don't know the game and its history beyond what they see on tv.  The youth league my son plays in pays licensed officials double the varsity rate just to tolerate the stupidity and keep order on Saturdays.  Still they struggle to get officials because these idiots who don't know the rules argue every call, right or wrong.

Perfect!  Do you have that copyrighted?  Would you mind if I borrow it some time?   :D

I seem to have lost my Congressional Medal of Honor around here somewhere :D

BTW I'm in the new touch screen Mount Union Hall of Fame  ;) If you go to Track and Filed and press Vaughn Davis, I'm the guy standing next to Vaughn. I knew I'd make somehow  ;D

another Mount ring on ebay....wonder who the player is?

Man I hope this ring isnt being sold to pay off some student loans. Hopefully this player can reclaim it someday....somehow. Must be a real reflection of the economy. Surely there must be some sad story connected to this one. Or a mean exwife. :o

The_end_of_overlook

With the writing on the inside of the ring I would guess it was a defensive guy, 11 as 1 was big with coach Monty, I don't know if it still is used today, but thats how the defensive always use to break it down (or break it out, however you want to say it)
