Mr. Ypsi

hscoach,

Thank heavens I finished catching up on the board before responding.  I was all set to smite you after the 15th (or so) Michigan joke (that's where I went to grad school), but your defense of the CCIW changes all that to 'applaud'! ;D

The CCIW, OAC, and the WIAC are, by nearly any calculation, the Big Three of d3 football (specific order no doubt varies year-to-year - and the MIAC and SCAC might enter the rotation some years), but for someone to argue the OAC is clearly the best based on the playoff exploits of MUC is like claiming the Pac 10 (probably still Pac 8 back then) was clearly the best bball conference due to UCLA.  Um, the Pac back then was probably not even among the top five conferences, they just happened to have one (virtually) unbeatable team!

Well, for all my Cap friends on this board I hope that the "Capital O" that we have all heard so much about finally shows up this week. Seems that defense has gotten the Cru further than their offense. Despite all the hype, Rocky is fourth in the OAC in virtually every stat and Capital is missing from virtually every category of NCAA offensive stats. The potential is there to play with anybody and I hope it happens. Good Luck.

Weather in Alliance appears to warming up a little tomorrow (High 48). Should be a fast track and the only shame is that the NCAA playoff roster limits will leave Larry no choice but to play 1st and 2nd string and probably have to go to the same extreme lengths as last week to keep from running up the score. See you all at brunch and on the tailgates in the AM.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

A hearty to our MSJ friendsvisiting Alliance for the first time. I will guarantee you will enjoy the atmosphere. Before the game hit the cafeteria for the best $6 brunch you will ever find. Please feel welcome in the tailgate lot, there is always plenty cooking. Really a fun place to be for a football game.

The curse of the CCIW going back to 1973 is that the teams basically beat each other to death, with the exception of Augie's run in the early 80s. There would never be a team to get a lot of national attention because no one would ever go undefeated.  I think a different school won the conference title every year during my four years.

Yes, I remember when the best teams in the country were BW, Wittenberg, and Widener. Anyone remember when the NFL was on strike around '80 and they televised a Div III game on Sunday instead of the NFL? It might have been Wittenberg or Widener.

So, I'll acknowledge that the Ohio has had the top team frequently in the last 30 years, but the CCIW has also been one of the toughest conferences to be part of.

Obviously, the OAC and the CCIW are two of the best D3 conferences in the country.  I'm looking forward to see the results of tomorrow's NCC/Capital game and, If Augie and MUC win tomorrow, their match-up in the second round.  Should be some great D3 play-off football.

usee,
a couple comments regarding play-off history of the OAC and CCIW.  You stated that the OAC was 10-4 against the CCIW and you believed (but weren't sure) that the home team won each game.  My senior year (86), we beat MUC at their home field in the quarterfinals.  In addition, Augie beat BW in the 82 playoffs and I'm pretty sure that game was at BW.
Augie Football:  CCIW Champions:  1949-66-68-75-81-82-83-84-85-86-87-88-90-91-93-94-97-99-01-05-06     NCAA Champions:  1983-84-85-86

Augie 6,

You're right on the Baldwin-Wallace game. They were also ranked #1 in the nation at the time.

Lets hope that Jorris and company step up, turn on the after burners and never look back. Much as I said about Capital, all the tools are there, it just needs to come together consistantly.  Go Raiders

Hey internet guys, help me out.  Is there a broadcast of the game other than WRMU.  It is coming in very choppy on my pc right now.

Thanks.

Would someone be kind enough to post sporadic updates on our OAC teams?  I do not have audio access from work.  It would be greatly appreciated.

MUC 7 MSJ 6.  First drive MUC went 3 and out.  MSJ has two field goals.  1st Q has strong wind at MSJ's back.

dale

3 plays after having the wind at their back MUC hits a 48 yd pass from Jorris to Casto and MUC is up 14-6.
