I don't mean to be cruel, but with the recruiting area they have JCU and BW should be looking for new coaches.

Of course Mount Union has always done well in the Cleveland area.  But what's really hurting is that a few area schools (Notre Dame and Lake Erie) have added football, and the fact that CWRU has turned into a perennial playoff contender.  Maybe not as much talent to go around as there once was.

Here's a random thought:

If qualification for the playoffs is basically a double-loss elimination situation, the fact that Mount Union has so thoroughly dominated conference teams in the past decade and a half really hurts everyone else.  There is literally no margin for error if you're a program like Capital, Otterbein, or Ohio Northern.  If you're one of those three teams this year, not only do you have to beat the other two, but you also have to make sure you don't slip up or have an off week against any of the weaker teams in OAC play.  I think an argument could be made that, annually, the top tier of the OAC is as good as any other conference, and yet now they're looking at getting shut out of the Pool C bid competition.

In short, I think the de facto double-loss rule is a bit ridiculous when we're not comparing apples to apples.  Hopefully ONU can still make a run at a Pool C bid!

reality check

There happens to be a coach on the Streaks staff that might deserve a shot if they decide Scaife's days are numbered.

He's an alum.
He's a former OAC HC.
He's a former All-American who was a member of JCU's only outright OAC championship.

Just something to consider.

I don't understand why ONU would get a pool C bid over Otterbein if both teams finish 8-2. Can someone explain that to me?

HScoach

Just got back from U Heights and that was worse than ugly.  What in the world was Regis Scafe thinking with his game plan?  Throwing the ball INTO a 25 mph wind then taking out your QB and playing a WR under center when you have the wind at your back?  Dumb.  The Blue Streaks didn't put up any fight today until after the whistle.

With Otterbein falling to Etta today, all the luster is removed from next week's MUC game.  The Cap/ONU game should still be good one though.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

ONU would be on a 7 game winning streak, has a big win over another conference champion (assuming Wheaton beats IWU) and will have played MCU ver tough.  Whereas Otterbein will have lost 2 near the end of the season, a TERRIBLE loss to a bad Marietta team and presumably a bigtme blowout loss against the Raiders.

Even though Otterbein beat ONU, in my mind an 8-2 ONU feels better than an 8-2 Otterbein.

Amen.  Dean Paul and his staff have done a great job this year.  If they win out (and OTT gets clobbered next weekend), they will still look very good.  Add to that a Wheaton win over IWU --

Also very happy for Mike Hallett and his staff --- They are finishing the season strong.  A win is a win for them, especially from what I saw in "Ah-da" (Realitycheck will get that joke) in October.

EDIT:  realitycheck... ha.  She just asked what I typed because I laughed as I wrote "Ah-da" and I got a prompt elbow into the ribs from her.... ouch

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

CS-Sorry, as usual my humor dropped a little short. Coach Decarlo was worlds removed from Regis who has been in a tailspin since he ran out of Decarlo staff and players. As for players, they have some quality kids who are sitting getting frustrated and leaving. It's OK to wait till your a Junior or Senior at Mount, but standing a watching on that team is an insult.

The scout team/jv team that came in late in the fourth quarter was nothing sort of inept. At least my boy Ryan Brodie finally made it in with less than 5 minutes. In 4 carries, became one of the rushing leaders for the Streaks with 9 whole yards. Hey, he was a step away from making it to state in the 100 meters for me, but apparently Regis's gameplan doesn't have room for speed (or logic). The kid who beat him out in the conference came to Carroll but got frustrated and left. I think that is much of what is happening to JCU. If you get the kids, but your program is a step down from where they played high school, they won't be around long paying what it costs to go to Carroll.

Just when I cleared everything including my daughter's birthday out of the way to come to the Otterbein game.......... Oh well, I haven't made a buffet yet this year. Don't need an exciting game anyway, because I need my voice for the HS game that night.  Nice to see alot of "old" faces and meet up with some new ones.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Actually, pool C hopefuls would be better off rooting for IWU.

If Wheaton wins, they would likely still not get the AQ (that would require another loss by NCC), but would probably finish 9-1 and be a near-lock for a C.

If IWU wins, they would take the AQ, and both Wheaton and NCC would be 2-loss teams.

Just food for thought. If the Ott's win next week wouldn't they be the automatic qualifier?

It's alright, I figured it was a joke.  My response was a bit in jest as well.
