Hi Gang!

Needless to say.....I was very disappointed in W & J's performance.  They may have been the worst team we have ever played in the first round.  Saintsfan????  I realize that T-M's game with them was for the conference championship, etc.....but 14-7?  WOW.........I hope your guys are playing better than that!

RAMS - not sure who you are traveling with this coming weekend, but if you are interested in some pregame, breakfast margaritas, you are welcome to join the Skunks Breakfast Club at Poncho's in Alliance.  We have been maintaining that "tradition" for about 12 years now, and will be there Saturday.  Skunks family is in town for the holiday, so this weekend will be a 20-30 strong margarita-fest.  I LOVE the smell of margaritas on Saturday morning!   ;D

Mount looks locked and loaded.  I fear that we are going to have one of those 2003 ish runs to at least the semi's, and we know how THAT played out.   :(

Can anyone confirm that former Musky coach Jim Heacock and now former YSU coach Jeff Heacock are related?  I'm guessing they're brothers although Jim graduated from Musky in '70 and Jeff in '83.  I read that both are West Branch grads so I'm guessing someone will have the confirmation or connection in no time.

Perhaps a school in the OAC might try to coax Jeff to consider a gig with them?!?

I know this has already been answered once, but yes, they are all brothers.

Actually, Jim (OSU DC) is the oldest.  Jeff (ex-musky HC) is the middle.  Jon (former YSU HC) is the youngest.  They also have a sister, Penny, who I think is between Jeff and Jon.

Our high school stadium at West Branch is Clinton Heacock stadium, named after their father, the first superintendant of the West Branch School District.  Clint was a great football player at Muskingum in the late 30's and is the guy who gave my Dad his first (and as it turns out, only) job as a teacher and coach at WB right out of BW.  Clint also hired Jim Laut to be the first head football coach at WBHS directly out of BW.  Both were hired on the recommendation of their college coach, Lee Tressel, who Clint was close to and had great respect for.  Which is what led to the intertwining of the Heacock and Tressel coaching families at YSU (Jon was Jim's DC and succeeeded him as HC) and OSU (Jim was one fo 2 coaches retained by Tressel from the Cooper era).

Skunkssidekick,

I think the TMC loss neutered them.  Its dangerous using scores to compare the two teams and I was going to say something after Saturday about people coming in here and saying W&J would be just ahead of JCU... that MAY BE the case, BUT..... Mount Union also plays very well in the playoffs when its "time to pay the bills".   I simply think Mount puts it into overdrive for the playoffs.

Still when they announced the score at TMC on Saturday after 1st Quarter, we were in shock.

Pierre had a great game on Sunday. First 100 yd game and took a brutal shot from Ray Lewis - but held on to the ball and got right back up. Saw the hit on sportcenter - wow! It hurt me to watch it.

Developments in the desert (not dessert, sorry hscoach)...

It looks like I will be a varsity offensive coordinator next football season.  There are some changes in the staff and the HC (also D-Coord) says he has all the confidence he needs to give me the reigns on offense.  I'm a little skeptical since I just finished my first season as a freshman OC but if he believes in me it's a chance I can't really overlook.  I'm glad I had to step in for the final three games as a JV OC now too.  Should be interesting...

Very nice... what are you going to run?  Pro Set?  Spread?

Single Wing, no one will expect it.

I'll be making my triumphant return to Mount Union stadium this weekend (OK, so I went to the Otterbein game thinking it might be exciting, but left well before halftime).  As many of you know, one of my brothers is a Mount Union grad...so my parents are season ticket holders at Mount, and root for JCU basketball...getting the best of both worlds.

I know very little about Montclair State, any insight is valuable so I can watch with an educated eye on Saturday.  Hopefully I'll be sticking around longer than I did for the Otters.

Finally, I don't do this often, but my buddy Mark "Munch" Bishop is hosting a Thanksgiving food drive at St. Augustine's Hunger Center in Cleveland this Wednesday for the 20th consecutive year.  If anyone in the NE Ohio area is interested in donating, send me a PM or email me (contact info in my profile).  Sorry to bug you guys with that.

I was somewhat surprized by the number of Raiders who made All-OAC, and even more surprized the K. Rocco was 2nd team. Did not see yet who the 1st team QB or other selections.

Acky

Kyle  Simmons of Ohio Northern was the first team all OAC QB.

Glad to see Kyle Miller get 1st team tightend.  He definitely deserved it, but I was afraid he wouldn't have enough total catches to go along with being a 1st year starter.

I'm only a little surprised that Rocco didn't get 1st team QB.  While I believe he is the best QB in the league by quite a margin, it's hard to separate the MUC system and talent around him versus what he indvidually brings to the table as a first year starter.  As an opposing OAC coach, it would have been tough to pick between Rocco and Simmons.  It might have come down to the play of Simmons who carried ONU to a couple wins and the close loss to Otterbein.  Whereas Rocco "only" carried MUC to a win at Capital.

As long as Rocco keeps playing like he has, he'll have a chance to bring home from Virginia something much bigger than 1st team All-OAC.

Do you think Kyle Miller could get a look from the NFL, He has the size, great hands, but not sure about his speed?

With things being being a little slow since no W&J posters (if there are any) are bold enough to show up this week, what's everyone's guess on the All-OAC selections when they're published this Monday?

AS far as Capital guys, I don't know.  Got to think D'Andrea (1000+ yards) , DB Smith (leader in passes defensed- but he missed a few games early in the season), and LB Jacobs (leader in tackles) like Reality mentioned are the prime candidates for 1st team spots.

I think Marty Assmann is probably the 2nd best QB in the conference, but he'll probably not get anything more than HM.  I think Simmons from ONU prob gets the 2nd team QB nod because of the head-to-head win.  I think among the top QB's (Rocco, Assmann, Simmons, Schlosser) that Schlosser from OTT gets left out, mostly because he is only a soph.

I think for some 2nd team and HM selections from Cap you could look at some of the OL- Koblinski probably, Dutcher and Giblin maybe.  Also think that maybe Evan Blake will be named as a WR.  Ancona and White are possibilities out there as well, although White disappointed me a little in not living up to what I thought was huge Howes/ Kraft- like potential.

On Defense for 2nd and HM, I think Matt Heagan as a LB, and Pickens as a DB are probables.  DB Drew Stimmel and DL Brian Shelton are maybes in my mind.  There are two sophs for Cap on D that I think deserve mention, but will probably get left off- OLB Troy Spiker and DE Dan Frankart.

FWIW...

Wow  :o  I was pretty close on this for Capital...

Jacobs, Smith, and Dutcher 1st team, Dutcher as the Wable award winner for outstanding OL.  I mentioned him, but I really missed.  I didn't know he was THAT good that he would be the Wable award winner... (perhaps I should have since he is a Capital center, just like yours truly used to be  ;D)

I called it on Assmann as HM, although I had Simmons and Rocco backwards in my prediction.

Pegged Evan Blake and Matt White

Pegged Matt Heagan on Defense as well, and I said Brian Shelton above but meant Brian Porter (seriously, 2 DLs for the same team with the same name gets kind of confucing sometimes) and he got 2nd team as well.

Kind of disappointed that there was no love for Pickens and Stimmel, although Cap had some issues with giving up big pass plays, so they pay the price, even though Pickens was on the all-OAC team (2nd or HM, can't remember) last year.

I think I pulled a muscle patting myself on the back!
