reality check

I'm working on my all-decade team but I'm putting way too much thought and time into it (since I'm on winter break...)
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)
OAC Runners-Up: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1982, 1941 (Stupid Mount Union!)
MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

I posted this on two other boards, but will do so here as well.

Did any of you see the announcement that Grand Valley State Head Coach Chuck Martin has been offered and accepted the defensive backs coaching job at Notre Dame under his former boss Brian Kelly?  I totally missed that the other day (i.e. apparently it was announced Monday).  Does that surprise anyone?  I think not, since Martin had been offered to go with Kelly to both Central Michigan and then Cincinnati, but turned him down.  Also, Martin had said on the day of the Div. III title game that he wasn't sure if Kelly would offer him again at ND since he had turned Kelly down twice before.  In addition, it was considered skeptical by some since GVSU lost the title game this year.  Overall, though I'm not totally surprised.  Some had also just mentioned that a minor consideration/factor was that Martin also had an Irsih/Catholic background and always wanted to consider coaching at ND in some capacity.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see who Grand Valley State picks as their next head coach.  Do any of you know if any of the current staff has a chance at being considered?  Or will they "go outside" this time?

Tom Arth was in the NFL

Couple of years on the practice squad.  I could go either way though.

On the QB debate, I'd go with the following:

1.  Tom Arth - absolute stud that carried an average team to greatness.  Best pure passer I ever saw at the D3 level.   He would have been worse than scary playing behind Mount's O-line.

2.  Greg Micheli - his numbers would rival Borchert's if he wouldn't have had Kmic to hand off to.  Great leader.

3.  Rocky Pentello - a close 3rd to Micheli

IN terms of Capital, I would say the following-

Ron Swearingin HAS to be one of the LB's, and not just on the "All-OAC decade team" but the "D3 All-Decade team".  There hasn't been an LB in the OAC who even compared to him since Hall and Fletcher graduated.  He was a 3 time All-American and led the OAC in tackles all 4 years he played.

Same thing for Kyle Hausler at DB.  Not just All OAC, but all of D3.  OAC career interception record, multiple time all OAC and All American.

I agree 100%.  Both of those guys were true difference makers.

TE Adam Irgang, or we'd still be playing OT at JCL. Adam was the most underrated player on his team. and he was my bud in Business Management Concepts

Anything that gets "raiders" out of your handle would be a good thing.

My take on the QB of the Decade in the OAC:

1. Greg Micheli
    - He lead the Raiders to a National Title
    - Was MVP of the Stagg
    - Won the Gagliardi Trophy
    - Could run and pass

2. Rocky Pentello
    - lead Capital for 4 years ( not 2-3) but 4

3. Tom Arth
     - Great QB, but did not do what Greg Micheli did
