Coach you hit the nail on the head...very jealous administration.

Before Collins let's not forget they played in a pit for a stadium with poor administration.

Not just a pit, but the SNAKE PIT!!!!!!!!!  ;D

It was unique  8-)

BTW Larry was named the new AD in 1985 and did not coach football, although he was still the swimming coach. The job was his to lose, but it was not a done deal

I'm completely shocked the current Cap administration went the route they did.   Collins took a crappy program (no offense intended JK) and turned it into a legit Top 5 program that was inches away from playing for a National Championship.   Now they purposely decided that the university shouldn't be at that level.  The new Cap coach might get them back to the top but it sure looks like it will be in spite of the administration instead of aided by the administration.  Just makes no sense.

I have never understood the issue in some circles that believe superior academics and superior athletics can't co-exist.  The only logical explanation I've ever being able to come up with is jealousy that the football coach is more popular/powerful/higher paid than a random English professor.  I know D1 is a different animal, but at the D3 level there are a ton of great colleges that are capable of mixing classroom success with success on the field.  Yet some schools still believe and operate on the premise that the 2 can not co-exist.

Well said, HScoach!  You are right on - all we need to do for further proof and example of that is to just point out to people the Swarthemore debacle of 2000 - what a travisty.  I"m sorry, however, there is just no excuse for that whatsoever and nothing that anyone can say will ever convince me otherwise.

Despite the potential challenges that still exist at Capital, I wish the new coach, his staff, and the players all the best for success and a return climb to that "next level".

With the Cap administration's negative approach to the football program, makes you wonder if the Cap athletics as a whole will be greatly affected as well!

New to the site.I know a young man who is trying to decide between MUC &Cap & a D2 that is out of state. Can anyone please expound on how the administration at CAP is not supportive of the football program? Thanks. ???

MUC and CAP both wear purple.  He wouldn't like purple would he?  How does he feel about orange and black?

In all seriousness, the administration has just made decisions in the last three-four years that indicate a lack of support and focus on continuing to elevate Capital athletics.  It is the opinion of many that Jim Collins left because, despite building the CAP program to what it was, he saw the writing on the wall.  I don't believe the turmoil is limited to football but athletics in general at CAP.  The big shots at CAP appear to be less supportive of furthering the athletic programs than the old administration.

For the record, ONU's leadership is very supportive of its athletic programs.   ;)

Probably not as supportive as Dr. Giese and his staff...   ;D

Also, he doesn't want to be looking like a Polar Bear on Halloween for the next four years does he?

You may want to advise the young man that Capital, though a good school, is not the best choice within Ohio fot the reasons already mentioned.

Both Mount and ONU have great programs and coaches. The bigger question may be, depending on his ability, where can he get the most playing time and at what position. Has he sent film to the schools and what feedback has he received?

In an attempt to address the gentleman's question, Mount Union is a known quantity, but we're having trouble figuring out what is going on a Capital. They have been through a couple of coaches in recent years, and although the coaches made positive career moves, it seems like there isn't a lot of support from the administration despite the recent investment in facilities.

So if your into flashier colors there is a very good coach at Heidelberg with a program on the rise ;)

Orange polar bears, Paleez!!! 8-)

Check your PM's.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Given how boring it's been on here lately how about a scan from an old Unionian?

Welcome aboard!  You need to visit both schools, tour the facilities and meet with the coaching staffs and make a decision that fits your academic and athletic needs.  The OAC has many fine schools and progrtams that may suit your needs.  As a Mount grad, I'm biased, but tell potential recruits Mount isn't for everyone.  If you want to compete every day for a job and are willing to pay the price to become a champion Mount Union may be for you.  The coaching staff is the best in all of college football.  If you have doubts in your desire to be the best you may want to consider going elsewhere

With Spring drills begining this week, it will be interesting to see what other seniors are part of it other than Cecil Shorts! The weather forecast is pretty good if the players get outside. :)

I checked my 1969 Unonian football pics.  That's Larry Kehres throwing during 1968 season.

Looks like coach Kehres has that Tim Tebow release.
