Hopefully he gets along well with that new special teams coach that he'll be reporting to.

Memo to the Big East: Please stop calling yourself the best basketball conference in America until you can prove it. You're lucky Nova escaped to save you a little face. Your 3 has already lost (to the MAC) and your 2 barely survived. You'd better hope Syracuse doesn't become the first ever #1 to lose to a 16, although they have a history. They were like the first ever #2 seed to lose to a 15.

Sorry, I'm bitter.  Georgetown wrecked my bracket.  I had them into the Elite 8.  I also had ND and Marquette winning.  Those were my only 3 losses yesterday.

Georgetown lost to USF this year.  I wouldn't have given them that much credit to the Elite 8.  ;)

I would have picked the Buckeyes to get to the Elite 8 over Georgetown. I just think they are better, and my loyalty to the program. We will see how they fair tonight and Sunday! :)

That is good for JCU, now they just need a new HC! A change at B-W would be a good move as well! The B-W alums are not happy with the program period!

Small but Slow

I grew up going to almost every OU home game so last night's game was rather nostalgic for me.  The next biggest win in my memory was in the early 80's Ray Myer brought his DePaul Blue Deamons into Athens.  The Convo was packed as the Bobcats stunned DePaul.  I also made it back to see OU host OSU in a first round NIT game circa '86-'87.  Rumor from Facebook friends still living in Athens is that OU is strongly considering scaling back their programs, possibly giving up DI status.  Its tough to draw the necessary crowds in a region where the OU enrollment makes up a good percentage of the population.

Small but Slow

On an OAC note one of my former players just returned from Ohio which included a visit to Ada.  His dad and he liked what they saw and heard from Coach Paul.  They've been skeptical of D3 football, but this trip opened their eyes.

Even tougher trying to get people without strong attachments to drive there. I've driven back north late at night after games and it can be scary

Nice to hear that out of state players have an interest in the OAC! :)

The problem is getting therm there. I got a lot of kids to small Ohio schools by taking them to Indoor Track meets for a day

BTW My daughter went out and put a Heidelberg sticker on my car yesterday. It's way too close to my "I bleed Purple" sticker

The state has greatly improved the highway system around Athens, but its still remote.  The football team has played in a couple of MAC championships recently and has gone to several bowl games, but the locals don't travel too well for more reasons than I can begin to explain here.  The area also lacks large corporate sponsors to provide financial support that MAC schools such as Kent or Akron have.

I've been working at it for a while, but most who could play in the OAC are reluctant to go that far away from home.  Most hs coaches don't know enough about d3 and assume the kids can't afford it. Both kids who are looking at OAC schools are eligible for academic money, but others would be eligible due to financial hardships.  Its a matter of getting them to look.  Once we get a couple up there I believe more good players will follow.
