You got me there!  I dunno, maybe Heidelberg and Eureka?

The point (as I'm sure you understood ;)) is that they could certainly upgrade their non-conference schedule if they wanted to have ANY hope of a C (and a better chance of wins in the post-season).

NOBODY is willing to take on my 'MUCH better tennis team'?   Have you NO pride in your tennis?

sorry to bring up an old topic, but i have been busy over thanksgiving.  back to 11/20/04......give the "purple hair" fans a break. i was one of those abnoxious fans a few years back myself as a muc student.  my response to everyone who told me to shut up then--why can you hear me if you are cheering for your/my team as loud as i am?  i dont understand why someone should be able to pick out a specific person if they are cheering.  and to those who also stated that the majority of the covered stands crowd is old and silent-right on!!! they are!!!  as a fan who once had the widener starting safety coming over the fence after me, i appaud the "purple hair" crew.  we, as fans are there not only to cheer for our team, but to cheer against the other team-i am not saying to applaud an injury-but there is nothing wrong with getting into the other team's head.  we, as mount fans, have long been the 12th man at muc stadium.

Talk about your party-killer. I see no point in even discussing the previous post except that it troubles me deeply that across society , but especially at sporting events, there seems to be an outpouring of people who seem to think it's their duty or God given right to be rude, immature and obnoxious and they seem to be able to at least justify it to themselves. Trust me, this is not a Mount Union problem. We had police officers removing parents from Pee-Wee football games who couldn't keep it in perspective. Simply sad.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

redman04-- Great to hear from ya bro!    No, I reserve my FINEST ROTGUT for quite possibly the most knowledgable fans in the CCIW.  You have 2 more years for a rematch and our fine ENDZONE hospitality! You guys were in my thoughts all day! Happy Holidays to all of you, I'll hold a sign up for ya at the Stagg ;D

It apparently isn't enough to root for the home team. Some feel an obligation to root against the other team and be proud when they come after you! Must be Yankee fans.

Maybe we should go back to the day when fans wore ties and jackets and those goofy hats! back when 70's took the train to his football games :D

jdean

There were some parts of the 70's that I enjoyed, but I sure as heck don't want to go back. Is it asking too much to behave like you've been there before (several times)?

b4uknewit

jdean-- it shouldnt be, perhaps if some parents today raised there kids like I was raised in the 70's we'd be talkin football, not fan fare ;)

about the fans topic:

I was at the game yesterday and sat to the right of the big group oh Purple Crazys or whatever they are called on the visitor side of the field. They were great entertainment and I think it was neat when they went 1,2,3 First Down, or even the Warm Up the Bus chant after the 1st TD in the 4th quater.  However, at the very beginning of the game there were about 3 fans on the stairs in the last row that divide section 12/13 that threatened some of the Augie fans when they stood up to cheer on the first 4th down attempt. I thought the fans were going to come over an attack a couple of the parents (one of them was the mother of the player who got injured during the 1st offensive play of the game).  I'm glad things didn't get ugly between the two sides, and I'm also glad it was just a very small minority of fans that acted that way.  I had a great experience at MUC, and it was well worth the 7 hr trip eventhough the outcome of the game was far from what I was hoping for.  It was a shame that it was the worst performance I've seen the Vikings play ever.  Your offensive line was amazing, and I don't see any team standing in your way from winning another title if you play like you did on Saturday. Your team definatly took our guys behind the woodshed.

jdean

Any of those three fans referenced above want to step forward and defend your actions?

b4uknewit

I believe it is just a few that will never appear on this forum. But I for one will never understand it. Last year when we hosted Carthage, was one of the most fun sporting events I've ever attended. All of us, parents, students, carthage fans and former players, even the cops, had just a great time in the endzone. And to top it off, I had to convince security to to let the Cathage Fans in an area that I guess is not normally welcome to visiting fans.

While I have nothing to add about the fans, I would like to ask Augie fans a few questions.  I understand and respect that the ball control offense has given the team great success over the years, and I'm not suggesting that the team alter its main offensive philosophy.  But when the team trails by three touchdowns in the third quarter, shouldn't there be some sort of contingency plan?  Don't you want to have at least one quarterback who can drop back and throw the ball?  You wouldn't have to take a knee with all three time outs and 30 seconds left in the half, and you wouldn't essentially run the clock out on yourselves, more or less resigning yourself to the fact that you're not going to win because the offense won't be able to score four touchdowns in twenty minutes.  I'm not saying that a change in the gameplan would've won the game for Augie, but don't you at least want to give yourself some kind of shot?
