Just curious, but what happened to Watson?  I didn't see his name in the stats and wondered if he was hurt.

I've got to agree with Moe daddy 45, go Raiders!

Watson didn't play that much because of the style of Augustana's offense.  He's more of a coverage corner and since they don't throw all that often he wasn't really needed.  I did see him out there on the punt team as he is the long snapper as well.  He's also a captain so he was there for the coin toss.  He'll see time next week for sure, being that he had 3 INTs vs. Cap earlier this year.
The impossible CAN happen and eventually it WILL happen.

Sorry...that's just funny.  What happened to Watson?

LOL.

C'mon Mount fans...are you that ignorant about your team's opponents?

Ric

Pat -- don't include all Mount fans in some of the comments that have been made the last couple of days.

Is it official yet?
Is Mount Union getting that mentioned 4 round bye next year to the Stagg Bowl?  :D

Wally,
You are a gentleman and an alumnus of a fine school with a fine football team.  There are plenty of OAC fans that respect Wabash.  Wabash would be in the top five in the OAC and that's a compliment to any program.

Toph:

To answer your question Augie doesn't have a qb that can drop back and pass the ball. With 30 seconds left before half and having to throw the ball into the wind it was the right decision to down the ball. We were only down 2 scores at that point and didn't want to give up another one right before half.  I really thought momentum was about to turn when we scored to make it 13-7 with just under 2 minutes left in the first half.  Why we attempted a short high kick I'm still not sure.  Giving up that TD pretty much deflated any hopes for Augie in the 2nd half, and when they fumbled the first play of the second half it was over.    As to having a plan,  this game was the first time all season that Augie has been down by more than 7 pts. It has always been a problem if Augie is down by more than a couple of scores, but even if we had started to throw the ball and get some points there was no way our D was going to do anything yesterday.

Re: Ignorant/immature fans

I totally disagree with the comment that it is appropriate to not only cheer for your team but against the opposing team as well.  I public address announce for schools at both I-AA and Division II schools in the east and I read prior to every game on the PA, the NCAA sportsmanship statement which states:

"The NCAA promotes good sportsmanship by players, coaches and spectators.  Racist, sexist, intimidating and innapropriate comments directed at players, coaches, officials or spectators are grounds for removal from the site of competition."

To me "Warm up the bus" is not exactly clever but not altogether inappropriate.  I would let that pass but to brag about incensing an opposing team's player to charge the fence or to jeer an injured player means you should promptly be removed from the stadium.  If a comment or action is found to be in poor taste by both members of your own fan base and the opposing team's fan base, then you are out of line, no questions asked.

With that said, congrats to both the Raiders and Crusaders.  I had another great day at the Delaware Valley game.  I met K-Mack who was there to see the action and sat in on the post game press conference.  Just a great experience and I am hoping that I get to go back down again this weekend to call the game between Del Val and Rowan.  Don't think I don't know that if Del Val wins this Saturday I get to see an OAC game next week in Doylestown, PA!!!  Great job by both OAC representatives this weekend.

reality check:  please provide us Rowan fans some insight on DVC '05!!  It's been mentioned that you have been in the booth for the DVC playoff games.  Your observations would be appreciated on the NJAC board at a time of your convienence.  Good luck next week.

I did play by play for DVC last year - and if you are a Rowan fan, you should know how these two played last season.

Knoblauch is an athletic qb - can focus in on one receiver too much, but he is solid.  One of only five quarterbacks in NCAA history to pass for 10,000 yards and run for 1,000.   Can run as well as pass - David Carmon and Don Marshall are their best wideouts - tall and fast - and both juniors.  Steve Cook does the lion's share of the rushing and Jake Sheffield pitches in as well.  It's a multi-threat offense - not afraid to use some trickery - and not afraid of a tough situation.  They'll go for it on 4th frequently and have come through in the clutch consistently over the last three seaosns.

Mangus the head coach is a Florida grad and was backup QB to Shane Matthews - cut from Spurrier's cloth.

Rowan killed em last year, but it was a much healthier Profs team who was playing at home.  Expect a good game that could go either way.

Thanks Pat!!  Remember very well!!  Good luck this week!!

I am one of the OAC fans that respeck Wabash. They played an oustanding game and deserved to be the #1 seed in the North because of the way they played. I understand the way the seeds for each bracket are picked and like I said it was well deserved. If they had made a few key catches (like the one in the end zone that popped out when he hit the ground) they would be playing MUC and not CAP, but our defense came up big when they needed to.

GO CAP!!!!!!!!!

Toph,

Over the years, there has been a lot of discussion about Augie's wing-t offense and whether they should change, can they pass, etc.  Although Roe is a great runner, he is probably the worst passer that has ran the offense since it was installed by Bob Reade in 1979.  I played on all 4 of our National Championship teams, and most people forget that we could be effective passing the ball in the wing-t offense.  During those four years, our passing averages per season were 750 yds passing, 17 yards per completion and 8 touchdowns per season.  Although not huge numbers by comparison to most teams, we were very effective utilizing the pass when we needed to, particularly in the playoffs.  The biggest difference between the Augie teams of the 80's and those since then has been the level of play on the defensive side of the ball.   Not only did we have a grind it out, ball control type of offense, we had a defense that could play against the best offensive teams in the country and shut them down.  We played against two very good MUC teams in 85 and 86.  The outcomes of both games were decided on ball control,  some key pass plays and the strength of our defense.  In 1986, I believe MUC had the #1 offense in the country when we played them at MUC.  We held them to 7 points, 185 yds of total offense and only 15 yards of offense in the second half.  As has been discussed many times on the CCIW board, unless our teams can significantly improve defensively, we will have a hard time advancing out of the North region.
