Augies-
Thanks, that's all I needed.  I think we are all thinking along the same lines.

Augie6,

Mount Union owes a lot to the Augie program of the 80's.  It was those two defeats that caused a young Coach K to question how he could build Mount Union's program to the level of Augustana's.  The rest is history! :D

Was the option oriented offense we saw Saturday typical of Augie?  I ask because much of the misdirection, double hand offs and deceptive ball handling that I associate with the Wing T seemed to be missing.

There was a time a few years back, that even as not so good as was Kazoo (how's that for saying they were in the lower tier ??? ;D), that they would have kicked Chicago's tail.  Not so in the past few years or so (except one perhaps) as you know.  Kazoo was not very good this year, but they need to be given a chance with the young players and a now to be 2nd year head coach.  On the other hand, I know what you mean. ;D

Sorry to have missed all the fun of the last few days but I have been too busy having a life.  I read you guys for the fun.  So many so assured of their positions.  Sometimes I wonder why play the games.  For all the talk that goes on, the real test is on the field and you know what, the best team will be the one who wins the Stagg Bowl Dec 17th.  All our talking does not change what goes on on the field.

As for Mount Vs Cap it will have to be an interesting week for the MUC defensive preparation.  Capital is probably the opposite of Augustana with an explosive passing game.  I sat there Saturday in the stands trying to figure out how MUC became such a potent running team.  I thought MUC was pretty balance team until Saturday, then Kmic goes crazy.  I wonder how MUC will be able to keep him.  I mean as freshman so of the larger school would probably want to give him a look.

For you football experts, was it all him, was the offensive line playing over its head, was the Augustana defense that poor?  It did seem to me the Augustana did a good job of keeping up with the MUC receivers.  I very seldom ever saw any of them wide open.  The short slant pass over the middle after some time allowed for the area to clear was the most effective part of the passing game.  I think Mount went deep only once or twice which is unusual.  I love watching the bombs!

I doubt Kmic will try to change levels.  It incurs a one year penalty, so Kmic wouldn't be able to play again until 2007.  Not many people would be willing to sit out for a year after making a strong showing in a worthy collegiate program.  I'm sure if he wanted to play at a higher level, he would already be there.
And for the students, another full drawer of clean undies!

Despite his recent numbers, at his size nobody above D3 is going to give Nate a look. He was this good in HS but he just doesn't meet D1 height and weight criteria. Thankfully.
Looking forward to seeing how he does against a really good defense that has probably gotten better than our last look.

Oldmantoo:

Kmic had an awesome game, and yes I believe he is that good.  MUC's line blew Augie off the ball a good 3-4 yards every play. If you combined that with horrible tackling on Augie's part leads to a huge game on the ground. That was an atypical game by the Augie D, but a good part of is that goes to how dominant the MUC line performed.  MUC also went 8-10 passing so they wern't really able to cover the receivers either. Especially on the short pass on 3rd and 15 that went for a 40 yard TD that gave MUC a 2 TD lead in the second quarter.

It seemed to me that the MUC offense line control the line all game.  When Kmic was running the ball, he had a huge opening quite a few times.  I think as bad as the runnning game was hurting Augustana, they werew more afriad still of the pasing game that was going to hurt them.  Everytime Garcon went out for a pass, there was double coverage on him every time.  I think running the ball threw Augustana defense off because they prepared for the MUC passing game

rscl70,
Augie probably ran more option the last two years because Roe was such an effective runner. I think, in general, Barnes' version of the Wing-T is oriented a little more in that direction than Bob Reade's was. Reade's was a little more "traditional" with more misdirection. Barnes' version puts the wingback in motion more, using him more on sweeps than inside counters for example. It's not a huge difference in styles. I think just a little different in how they utilize the wingback. It'll be interesting to see what next year's version looks like. The heir apparent to Roe, Ryan McGinnis (if healthy), is also a good option QB.

I hate to go way back through the pages to post a comment, but I think that reality check is right in post #2860.  (Boy, it pains me to say that RC is right about anything :D

The yahoo fans that think they have a right to taunt should get their collective @sses booted right out of the stadium.  I think that this should be true on all levels-right up through the pros.  If we could get the idiots out of the stands the games would be a lot more fun.  I think that those of us that feel this way should take it upon ourselves to not put up with the bad behavior and should either confront the offenders ourselves or should contact the authorities to see to it that the perpetrators are removed/banned from the stadium.

Taunting an opposing coach (other than KC Keeler ;D) is bad enough, but taunting an injured player is indefensible.

I like the idea of reading the NCAA sportsmanship statement at the start of each game.   That should be standard practice at all d3 events.

Those of us who were sober heard it read at each of the last two playoff games in Alliance which is surely part of the problem. I love to tour the parking lot behind the stadium and shake hands with the tailgaters. Often I save a trip to the brunch with all the free food passed out. But last week I saw some things that really disturbed me. Out by Clark there was a car whose "tailgate" was a 24 pak on the roof accompanied by several bottles of liquor. Maybe cause I got old and maybe because it was 10:30 in the morning and I had an eight year old with me I didn't find this in the spirit of the other partiers. I think a couple of well placed and thoughtout notes to the administration asking them to reel in the overt abuse in the lots would go along way. I know most of the administration and feel they would be equally distressed about some of the tales on this board. Careful not to broadbrush the well meaning and more harmless tailgaters.
I'm just afraid with a larger crowd and a more intense local rivilary that things could get out of hand fairly quickly and I'd hate to see that happen.  You can give several hundred opposing parents a hard time with no problems, but I expect a lot of students and young alum's from Capital which could produce a different dynamic.

Not directly asking the head coach for the weekend off.  I have been talking about Capital for weeks and hopefully he will read through and tell me to take off for the weekend.

I would like to think that the Capital crowd won't be unruly, but I am not going to vouch for everyone.  My close friends and former teammates that will no doubt be at the game do like a cold beverage or nine, but generally don't get unruly and out of hand.  I think many of us remember when we had no realistic shot at the post season and are thrilled at the alma mater's success, whereas, some of those who never had a losing season at Capital think its our our right to be in a game.  Entitlement can be a nasty thing.

I hope nobody does or says anything to embarass the alma mater.
