I forgot that Akron Springfield was ever good. Pay for play and open enrollment destroyed them. Last year they broke a 34 game losing streak since lack of pay lead almost all those coaches to go some where else.

BH2H-Rotator cuff is amazing, but operation sucked. I'm such a lazy old butt I tend to not want to wake up from the anesthesia. Spent a day in ICU because I wanted to stay in la-la land. Arm feels better than anytime in 5 months. Got most of the one handed chores around here done(Weeding, scrapping the crud off the bottom of the lawn tractor mowing deck) . S/B getting cleared to drive again tomorrow.

Looking forward to subbing again next year. I really do miss the kids

I know from my efforts locally, that small resident schools are a tough sell in this economy, when Akron and Kent allow kids to stay at home and keep whatever jobs they had through high school. If the Dow Jones doesn't start heading the other way I may be washing dishes in Tiffin. Those of us who actually saved for their kids education have pretty much the money we invested

Seventies, hope you are recovering well! It would be nice If Heidelberg and Mount had a legacy agreement between the schools like Mount has with B-W.
It would help with the tuition! :)

Happily, the Berg is significantly less expensive. I'm still gagging over what that on-campus year cost for me in 2001 at Dear Olde UMU. My legacy plan is I may have to park the camper in Mike's driveway once in a while to afford to see my daughter  8-)

They had a 230 lbs stud TB that went D1 as a wrestler to OSU who ran over us for 300+ yards

Anthony Gary.  Stud.  Physical freak of nature.  I had to wrestle him a few times.  0-6 lifetime against him, though I had him beat in the NBC tournament my Sr. year (I was ahead 4-2 and trying to run out the time) until he caught me in something in the 3rd period with about a minute left and pinned me.

Of course now that I looked it up, he was POY in 93.  If you are thinking later, the only other NBC POY that Springfield had was Bo James in 96.  Could have been him, if you are sure of the timeframe.  Or you could have combined the 2 in your mind.  Because Gary was the Wrestler.  He was a state placer in 92-93 and won state in the 93-94 season, then went on to wrestle at OSU.  I don't think James wrestled, though I could be wrong.

Dr. Acula

Bo James was a state champ wrestler also.  He was a beast.  The combo of James at RB and Chip Woods at QB was very scary back then.

Just got the news that my college roomie of three years just welcomed his first child (little girl named Lucy) into this world.  He played four years for ONU and stuck around as a student asst. when Kaz was dismissed (his fifth year to wrap up his engineering degree).  Anyways I'm happy for and proud of him and his Polar Bear wife as well.

Wow, I'm getting old.   Memory is fading and I shouldn't have been too lazy to look it up.   Anthony Gary was who I was thinking of, just off a couple years.

Gary was a beast.  Their offense consisted of lining him up 8 yards deep and pitching him the ball and just letting him run.  He was the biggest, baddest opponent we ever played during my 8 years there.  He wasn't necessarily the best ever football playmaker (that would be Jeff Morris  >:( ), but he was the most physically dominant.  He ran with such anger.  Would look to hurt someone on every carry.  Not just pop them , to physically punish them for attempting to tackle him.

The other thing I remember about him was how well spoken and polite he was off the football field.  He was the  poster child for "flipping the switch" when you step on the field.  Too bad he got messed up at OSU >:(

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

The mid-90's Springfield teams were very, very good.  Sad to see what that program became after HC Jay Glaze left.

When the Raiders play at Oshkosh, it will be in the same type of stadium as Whitewater, about 10,000 seats all on one side. I wonder how often the stadium is near full (maybe UWW). :-\

For 2009 however, they only averaged 1,200 fans for 6 games, not including
UWW!

Not a D3 article, but LK gets a little ink.  The article's main picture is pretty cool to see on ESPN as well.

HScoach,

Thanks, the article captures the sad state of consolidation due to lack of students in Ohio and the midwest. Mount and other OAC schools are fortunate to be able to attract and recruit those players from other states.

Jason Hall (MUC Graduate) coach at Massillon is quoted in the story as well.

Today has to be a tough day for Ric with fellow 4 foot, 8 incher Gary Coleman passing away.
