Sorry, don't know much about Wilimington College but recent posts seemed to go past good natured.  I am from Iowa, graduated from one of the Iowa Conference schools.  I live in Ohio now and have to travel the state for my job.  Wilmington is one of the areas I go to and the town is really hurting with the departure of DHL.  I have also been to Ada, Tiffin, Muskingum, and Alliance, and cannot see where Wilmington is any worse than any those.

The chest beating is pretty much restricted to football and occasionally ladies basketball. Mount was once a track power capable of humbling D1 schools. I've been to all the stadiums and towns in the OAC, past and present, and it would be reach to compare Wilmington's facilities to the rest of the conference. They are the new guys and the drive we all hate to make. At least when we had to go to Hiram (Wilma's predecessor) There was a beautiful view beyond the slaughter immediately in front of us.

On  behalf of Coach K, who I have considered a friend for decades, I apologize

Does all this Wilmington bashing make you all feel better?

Wilmington has a football team? who knew...

reality check

I won't be apologizing any time soon for making a couple jokes at the expense of Wilmington College.  I complimented their soccer program and took a couple jabs at Mount Union and Baldwin-Wallace in the process.  Additionally I made fun of one of the Quakers' most notorious poster.

Now, if that makes me classless, immature, insensitive or whatever else someone wants to say because they've suddenly elected themselves moral majority and high horse-rider of the Post Patterns, then I suppose an apology is indeed in order.  I guess everyone should just compliment each other on the fact that their institution has bright spots and ignore any faults or shortcomings.  I mean, I've never heard ANYONE make fun of Ada.

Maybe we should just sit here, not typing anything all off-season and pray that the days trudge by without any kind of debate or discussion so as not offend or place anyone's panties in a bunch.  God forbid the panty-wadding!

It's the off-season....this news gave us something to discuss and debate...or we could all just sit here twiddling our thumbs waiting until September.  I'd rather be immature and insensitive...and have a pulse.

Does all this Wilmington bashing make you all feel better?  It really sounds pathetic and embarrasing.  I guess maturity was not a graduation requirement at the almighty Mount Union or Ohio Northern.  I do realize the vast majority of Mount Union graduates are good people and the football coach shows a lot of class; however, the few old farts that post on this board who live vicariously through the football team are really getting a little tiresome.

Actually, yes.  Bashing Wilma does brighten my day.  It's one of the few crappy towns in Ohio on par with the crappy little town I grew up in.

And leave MUC out of this.  I'm an Akron U grad who still works in downtown Akron.  Which is another crappy place to spend your time.

Man, my life sucks.  Maybe I should just move to Mansfield and end it all?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Here's my biggest problem with Wilmington:  It's a 3+ hour drive to watch a very poor football team with no effort and desire play against Mount in a stadium that would be an average small town high school stadium at best.

If that doesn't deserve a few shots on Post Patterns, then I don't know what does.

At least when we drive to Ada it's to watch a good team from a very well regarded university play in a beautiful new stadium.  A trip to Tiffin includes a MUC reunion with Coach Hallett, a much shorter trip and a more competitive team.  Muskingum isn't a bad drive, the stadium is nestled in the hills and is a great setting in the fall, though the football usually sucks.

When there are only a few regular season games worth actually watching competition-wise (ONU, Capital and the current flash in the pan), the amount of time wasted getting to/from the towns and the amenities present become a bigger concern than the game itself.

Or the two plus hour drive to "quaint" Marietta, where the football usually sucks. Give Heidelberg a few years to finish-up the new facility and it just may surpass the setting at New Concord.

...... and don't forget that 'other' away game in Salem, nice venue and setting but the weather does not help at that time of year! :)

BTW Some of us have been "living vicariously" through Purple Raider Football since a time when we had to schedule Hiram for Homecoming so we could celebrate something. It's been a long hard road since those early years of Ken Wable

I remember when we thought a 5-5 season was a good one and we lost almost every year to Coach Wable's alma mater Muskingum. Coach Kehres
corrected all those deficits one sees on Ric's match-up sheets! :)

Yeah, it was 5-4 or 4-5 and worse with real small crowds!

Point of clarification 5-4 or 4-5. We didn't officially play 10 games till '87

Mount was 17-18-1 over that 4 year period! :(
