Considering that publicizing a scrimmage is technically against Division III rules, you may not find many team websites with that information posted.

We saw a comic that described Arizona summers perfectly.  He said, "walking outside in the summer in Arizona is kind of like that same feeling when you open the oven door to check on the Thanksgiving turkey and get that overwhelming rush of hot air that feels like it's cooking your eyeballs...and then you decide that it would be a good idea to then climb into the oven."

He pretty much nailed it.

When we made it to the playoffs and got to play an extra week in 2008, the kids complained because 62 degrees was too cold to play football.

I miss Ohio football...

What have you found to be the best source of replenishment of body water loss in that high Arizona heat for the players? :-\

Our son, who is currently a scout platoon leader in Baghdad, indicated that 24-hour hydration is critical.  Not necessarily drinking a lot immediately before/after a strenuous activity, but smaller amounts of water on a regular basis every day/all day.  In other words, drink an 8oz. glass of water every hour or two.  It keeps you from becoming dehydrated......you may not be thirsty, but drink it anyway.  Water is the best option...of course, drinking during practice helps...but the systemic drinking is critical.  BTW, he would think that 108 degrees was a good deal.  He's been dealing with 110-120 degree heat, with full body armor, in a Stryker!!

We preach to the players hydration starting with first hour class.  They are conditioned to carry a gallon jug of water to all classes and are told it needs to be gone by end of the day.  It took a while for them to catch on to the fact that hydrating doesn't start ten minutes before the practice.  It needs to be done hours earlier!

They get Gatorade at practice but it doesn't last long.  It's all about the water, and colored food.  Colored food is good food and brown or gray aren't colors.

(I tell them that every day while I eat my Mickey D's and Burger King!)

I do this to keep myself hydrated, also... but I am usually replacing water with something better ---  Strong Bow or Woodchuck.  Its refreshing
