Yellow, gold and orange (or, for Michigan, maize) are all on a spectrum, with no clear dividing lines.  Is it even official that Heidi is orange?  Maybe 'old gold'? :o ;D

Looks pretty orange to me!

Hey, sidekick, any thing to report on Junior? I'm off to my kid's 8th grade game soon

Seventies...how did it go?  I take it Mogadore doesn't have an 8th grade team, and he is still playing Youth football?  Who/where do they play?

Jr. is banged up from his game on Thursday.  Last year he would run the ball maybe two or three times a game, and played safety.  This year he ran the ball 12 times, caught two passes, is the kick returner, and plays linebacker on defense.  I told him to get used to having ice, and ibuprofen as his best friends for the next few months.  We will know much about this Hoover freshman team as they play at Louisville this Thursday.

RC - hang in there kid.......it can only get better from here.  What was the gametime temp?

Is this the year the OAC surpasses the WIAC as the toughest conference in football?

I have read the capsules of the WIAC teams over on their board, and I am thinking that they may be a bit down this year.  I also think that if ONU, Capital, and OTT can play to their potential, this could be one of the most competitive years in the OAC in a while.

If Heidi takes that "next step", and Marietta continues to improve (I was impressed with them in the first half last year against Mount), and Musky keeps embracing the crazy notion of the forward pass, the league will be even better than expected.  I truly don't expect JCU or B-W to be any better, and it will be those two teams that drag down this conference.  Of course Wilmington will be Wilmington (which really isn't a GOOD thing).

Thoughts?

It was actually 90 degrees at kickoff which still sounds hot but was a good ten to fifteen degrees below what I anticipated.  It felt more like a week 6 game temperature out here.

I've looked at the film of next week's opponent and feel pretty good about our chances to put up some points.  We are simplifying and perfecting this week.  I'm ready for next Friday already.

First, I thought the WIAC capsules were well done, and I agree the conference may be a bit down overall this year. In the past years UWW has had someone really play them tough. That could happen this year, but I am not sure who provides that challenge.

This year in the OAC could be a year of the stronger "seven".  I agree that    B-W (think they will get by Wooster), JCU and Wilmington will not be real strong, but the other teams will be competitive to "very Competiitive". ONU, Cap and OTT will have some great games along with the Raiders. The 'berg, Musky and Marrieta could, IMHO have real improved seasons. I would not be surprized if one them pulled a big upset!

The OAC will no doubt be exciting and it starts soon! ;D

Sidekick-The Varsity level of suburban Youth in Summit and Portage County is in it's last year. Everybody will have an eight grade program next year.  We play Stow, Cuyahoga Falls, Kent, Ravenna, Field and Barberton. Most of those schools have eight grade programs but parents were always so attached to the youth program that they stayed in youth and the MS program suffered. My days as commissioner, coach, equipment manager and announcer are numbered. Time to just sit in the stands and bitch about the calls.

For now I'll announce the little guys (7-8 year olds) which is a hoot. I tell the parents that we don't go for numerical accuracy as much as numerical distribution. Everybody gets to hear their kids number called, even if they are on crutches. I love to see everybody turn around and look at me when I credit a late game tackle to the kid holding the water bottles.

As for the Berg, they ain't nobody till they beat somebody. They have come a long way, but the next step is to beat someone in the first half of the conference. And with all the OAC championships they have in other sports, I don't think we are very far away from that. That might put some air back in that poor old Stagg Bowl football in the Berg trophy case. Contrary to a lot of hoopla, I'd be targeting Otterbien and/or Capital to make that breakout win

Only three freshman impressed enough to make the list and one is 6'5" and 280.

Tyler Almeida is back at kicker, so you can can stop worrying HSCoach. (And the Sarbaugh kid from Hoover is the real deal too)

I'm sure Ric is glad that John Kapoudjian and John Nicolozakes are O linemen and their names won't come up very often

With all the double numbers especially the lower ones, Kyle Miller will share #11 with a running back! How about a halfback pass play from #11 (Davidson) to #11 (Miller). Maybe Kyle should have kept his 80's number! ???

Budzinski and Seaman share a number. Pretty sure even with my vision I'll tell them apart

This guy's not a freshman.  He's listed as a SO and played 11 games on the OL at Kent State in 2008 after redshirting there in 2007.

Yes, after Lenny changed it to reflect his two years at KSU. Expect there to be many more tweaks over the coming weeks

Way to stay positive, RC. Keep us updated. Its great to finally be in football season. I'm interested to see how the team progresses. Good thing is that you'll have a measuring stick (for you and your team).
