RC give me an update on the team...

I owe hscoach an update too.

We are currently 2-2 (but +48 in scoring; go figure) and heading into a winnable game but it will probably be a dogfight Friday night.  We dropped one on the road last week 22-15 after leading 15-6 early in the third quarter.  I lost my stud fullback to a dislocated kneecap midway through the second.  He's out for 3 weeks.  We've got a solid stable of backs but it starts with this kid so losing him does hurt a little.  We're developing a passing game slowly but surely to compliment the veer.  We've been averaging 244 yards a game on the ground and another 74 in the air.  You can see some of our numbers here.  There's a video at the bottom of the kid who's got the banged up knee scoring on our first play from scrimmage in game 3.

We have three weeks where we should be in it and one real tough game at the end of the season before our independent playoffs.
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)

Clearly this is Mount's biggest test of the year and of the regular season. ONU always plays Mount tough and has beat some very good Mount teams. Best ONU team ever.....time will tell.

This is ONU's best shot. A young unproven Raiders squad will need to grow up in hurry (especially on defense). They will face an experienced ONU team set on a playoff run. ONU passed its first test. It's a game and a challenge like this where LK will find his leaders and if we are contenders to the crown or not. Mount will need their A game from a group of youngsters to prevail. It will be interesting to see who steps up in a game of stature.

Personally, I can't wait for Saturday. See ya there. Safe travels to all.

Only once in recent history (past 16 years)...

From Lenny's Preview:
QuoteTHE SERIES
This is the 53rd meeting between the teams with Mount Union holding a 38-13-1 lead in the series that dates back to a 52-0 Mount Union win on Thanksgiving Day 1907.  The Raiders have won four-straight meetings after Ohio Northern's 21-14 win in 2005 in Alliance.  Prior to that game, Mount Union had won 20-straight meetings dating back to a 14-9 Polar Bear win on Sept. 8, 1984.

Ahhh ...

The temperature is finally below 60 (here in DC).  It is finally fall ... football can start for real.  This is my favorite time of the year.

I miss the travelogues.

I miss Dick.

Bein_86, shutup!  UMU is nothing without the rest of the OAC.  If this seems like a UMU Board, it's only cuz no one else is posting.  Ignore the impetuous youth ... the true fans are fans of all OAC teams.

Until they play us!

Peace!

Well, I had been thinking about changing my avatar -- Thanks Coach, for providing the impetus for me to do so.   ;D

I agree.

The '05 ONU win was a true upset.  Whereas this game is just one between good teams.  No upset in either direction in my less than humble opinion.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

RC:  Thanks for HS update.  Good luck the rest of the season.

I truly think this could be a "pick-em" game, especially if it was being played in Ada.  I think HSCoach has given the edge to Mount for the usual reasons (partly to just mess with people's heads).   ;)

If Mount were to lose this game, what does it really mean?  Other than the national D-III gasp it will cause, it really won't change that much.  If ONU runs the table from that point, they will be a #1 seed.  See as how they are on the other side of the moon in Ohio, it makes me think they wouldn't fall into the "move to the East" category.  Maybe that would go to Wesley, and MHB would be the South #1.  Mount would end up being the #2 in the North, and set up a rematch in the regional finals.

I think that Mount's trump card is that they have a certain someone named Cecil Shorts.  Look for him to get more touches this week, and maybe even a couple of "Raider Cat" formations.  As I said earlier, Mount may need a fifty spot if the defense doesn't play well.

I am still trying to make it to this game, but it doesn't look good.  RAIDERGUY.....Skunk is in YOUR hands now!   :o

Anyone over Youngstown way, Jr. is playing Boardman tonight in their stadium at 6 PM.  The Hoover freshman are trying to go 6-0.  Jr.'s knee is better, so I look for big things from him tonight.

That is all......I am out!

Among the questions I raised in an earlier post was: " What would be the turning point in the game Saturday"?  skunks_sidekick said it. It will be Cecil Shorts here, there, anywhere! IMHO. So far, no team has been really able to limit him including UW-Whitewater.

Also think the "Big" TE Kyle Miller will be a factor. The defense will have to control Kyle Simmons and the ONU running game, "huge task" for the young Raider defense. With all that, who wins the  LOS (per HScoach) will probably win the game or at least be a major factor! :)

No, but everyone knows that C. Shorts will have double coverage on him almost entirely, which means he will work from a different set, in motion like PG85 used to have when he had double coverage. Miller will be open alot, too much size and strength to cover for a LB. IMHO :)

wesleydad

i agree with skunksidekick, the difference will be cecil shorts.  he was the difference against wesley last year after the qb went out and he had a great game against uwww in the stagg.  he is one of the best players i have seen play and a class act in the games i have seen him play.  wish i was making the trip as it should be a good game, but had to choose and the shorter drive next week won out.  good luck mount, enjoy what should be a good game.
