Hello All!  I am pleasantly surprised that Mount won so handily.  ONU can't score a point?  WOW......

Looks like B-W is the challenge in the league.....who knew ??? :-\

John Carroll is awful.

Amen.  Glad I gave up the pts and took Cardinals.  If I were a Carroll player I wouldn't admit it to anyone I knew.   :P

I've followed what everyone had been saying about JCU on here the past few weeks but really didn't think they could be that bad. I was amazed. Ott could have scored 70 easily. Most of JCU's offense came late in the game with the second D in. I don't know if they just don't have the athletes that they had 5 or so years ago but they just look like a completely different team than the ones I played against. Is the coaching issue up there really that bad?

Bein_86... Nice to see Trey get into the endzone. The receivers are starting to really come together and it's great to see

So...this was the best ONU team in recent years or ever? You guys got shut out!

Congrats to Mount's D...great game!

Few thoughts after watching today's game. Nothing groundbreaking, but was my first viewing of the 2010 version of the Monster...

- Seaman has a long way to go to be able to lead this team to the Stagg Bowl. Are Pilito and the other QB's that bad? Seaman is a great athlete and can be a a great leader when he has a good running game behind him. He just doesn't seem to fit this offense of great WR's who can stretch the field. A Kurt Rocco or Mike Jorris style QB would be ideal IMO.

- Cecil's numbers are taking a hit with Seaman behind the center. Obviously his move to PR is to give him more touches.

- RB squad is less than be desired. Maybe we can see the Urbainia kid? Wes Ryder II runs hard, but is a FB playing HB.

- UMU's defense is scary good once again. Any number of ball hawking DB's and Sammy Kershaw has to be one of the top 3 LB in the country.

- While ONU failed to score, they were as billed. Good team, and wish them luck the rest of the way. I hope they can represent the OAC come playoff time.

BW got it to 4-0 today but i think everyone would agree that the season starts now.

I thought so too, but his numbers are almost identical to last year through 4 games.  I agreed with your first point wholeheartedly thinking that with athletes like CS3, Collins and Brown it would be awesome to have a Rocco cannon back there, but somehow they're getting almost the same production out of Cecil/Seaman.  I don't get it, but that's why he's LK and I'm me!

2010:  22 rec, 427 yds, 6 TD
2009:  20 rec, 447 yds, 6 TD

As for the RB's, what were your (or anyone's) thoughts on Murray?  I've never seen him play so I'm curious if there's any chance he could help them this year.  Seems like Ryder would be a perfect change of pace guy if they had another quicker/faster HB to couple him with.

reality check

Disappointed in the final score but didn't have a chance to follow the game today.  The numbers tell me that ONU couldn't convert on third downs and lost the turnover battle.  Not a recipe for success at all.

As for "GONUTE"...it was said by someone who hasn't been around much since making the claims and it wasn't clear how or why he was associating himself with ONU.  Hopefully he comes back to acknowledge the outcome.

I'm not sure what the comment about a Frosh ONU RB showing glimpses was all about since only Donley, Simmons and Marshall ran the ball.  Marshall's a junior.

I clicked on the live stats link this afternoon and saw: ONU 5, Mount 0 (women's soccer), ONU 3, Mount 2 (volleyball), ONU 1, Mount 0 (men's soccer)...I would have traded those three for 28 points on the field today.  Not a fan of the presto sports setup at all.  I guess I prefer the setup for the other live stat formats.  Anyone else feel the same or different?

In case you were wondering, after reviewing the stats from todays game, I'm still not very impressed with the ONU passing game, 85 yards??

I enjoyed the running back of the week, Murray and of course Wes Ryder. What ya' got for us next week Larry ?

Seaman's numbers looked better than what I saw on the field. Granted thats the best defense he has seen this year. I would like to have a quarter for every time Miller was running open waving his arms and didn't get the ball. I know we're spoiled and want perfection but this team needs work.

During the postgame recap on 1310 HScoach said what many of us have mentioned before that Neal Seaman does not have the arm strength yet for the long ball. Many should remember that Zac Bruney did not either, but  he was a team leader regardless.

Coach Kehres believes Seaman does the right things the majority of the time, and I do not see him placing one of the other QB's as the starter unless the Raiders do not generate the offense he expects. Personally, I thought Matt Piloto was the better fit, but that must not have developed in the eyes of Coach Kehres. Mount has 6 more games to play and win for the conference title, then the next season begins. I believe the Raiders grew as a team, despite all the youth. The defense was one of the best today, so let's build on that. We know Ryder can run the ball, but still need that threat, maybe soon! :)

It was a good showing by a young Raider team today. I think a lot of sophomores and a couple freshmen grew up today. Some observations........

1) It was nice to see such a solid kicking game. Place kicking and punting were excellent.

2) The young defense looked aggressive and athletic and should continue to improve as they gain more experience.

3) My biggest concern is Seaman and the deep ball. There seems to be a lack of arm strength and too much air under deep passes. One of our strengths is our wide receiver's speed and yet in each circumstance when Cecil and others clearly had a DB beat, they had to stop and adjust to the ball to make a play. That speed advantage is neutralized if we can't hit them with the deep ball when they have got behind the defense.

Seaman needs to learn to throw over the top--his side-arm fling doesn't get the ball down field at all.  He was throwing behind receivers all day long.  I was happy with the outcome, but not very happy with the game.  If I was a D-coordinator (and I am not), I would have my guys running in with their arms raised--probably block half his throws.

This is not yet a playoff caliber team.  Hopefully things will come together as the season progresses, but unless Seaman figures out how to find Miller W-I-D-E open down the middle and how to lead his receivers rather than them constantly coming back for the not-so-long ball we won't make it out of the second round.  I would like to see if Piloto can air it out in a way that takes advantage of our speed at wide receiver.  There were some really scary lineups on offense today with Miller, Shorts, and #5 all lined up on the same side--too bad we couldn't take advantage of the raw speed and power that that setup could provide.

On the other hand I was pretty impressed with the young defense--#30 Nyegel Thomas (a freshman) had some really big plays--I look forward to watching him for the next four years!

Despite that the WRMU player of the game was Jeremy Murray, my player of the game was LAMBERT BUD..........wait for it.....ZINSKI. His number's were impressive. Kershaw had a big game as well.

And Nick Driscoll and Charles Dieuseul

If your handing out awards for this game, they go to the Defense.

My first viewing of the Raiders this season.  Initial thoughts,  Overall fastest defense I have seen for mt.  They were quick to the ball and pressured onu qb all day.  Their speed and quickness were impressive.  Seaman's first home game as a starter,  big crowd and alot were from louisville his hometown, very good onu team as the opponent, I think he was feeling the pressure and performed as a young qb.  Had he not had the int on his first pass attempt, he may have settled down and performed more accurately on his passes.  So cut the kid some slack and let the coach   coach,  Kehres will bring him along and he will be fine.  Glad the D was solid and improving every game.  Its a long season,  Mt. will be fine.  They should be peaking around playoff time.  GO RAIDERS!

From what I've heard and seen, the reason Seaman is the starter over Piloto and Pedulat is decision making and consistency.  Neal hasn't the arm strength yet to make all the throws, but he makes good reads and looks over the field well.  Piloto might have the gun like Adamson did, but is really inconsistent.

While this WR corps is scary good and would be unstoppable with an experienced, strong armed QB, we don't have one of them on the roster.

We also need to remember that Micheli didn't have good arm strength as a sophomore either.  If his arm doesn't get better over the next year, then we have a real problem.

In regards to the game today, I was very impressed by the Mount O line and the poise of Seaman.  ONU sent the kitchen sink at the LOS today and the Mount O line won almost all of the battles.  Seaman's first throw is picked in the end zone and he comes back to have a good day.  He didn't make every throw perfectly, but he played within himself, settled down and didn't make any more mistakes.   Which is why LK starts him over a couple guys with stronger arms.

Wes Ryder is a tough SOB, but is a FB first and foremost.  Was good to see him get a 100+ yards, but he isn't a legit threat at TB against a really good playoff caliber defense.  I thought Jeremy Murray looked good, made good cuts and displayed vision that the rest of the TB's haven't shown.  He isn't imposing physically at 180 lbs, but ran hard and made a couple nice runs.  Especially between the tackles.

Defensively the Raiders played very hard, but I put more of the shutout on the pathetic ONU offense than I do stellar play of the Raider D.  Donley looked overweight and slow, and for the 3rd time against Mount, QB Simmons plays poorly.  The Mount pass rush was average, but Simmons couldn't hit the broad side of a barn today.  We're all over sophomore Seaman for a less than stellar arm, but senior Simmons has less arm strength and much less accuracy than Seaman.  Simmons had a couple nice scrambles, but he didn't look like a 3 year starter, and much less than an All-OAC performer.  Maybe he's been great against everyone else, but in the 3 times I've seen him, I've left each game thinking he's very average.

As expected, Northern played hard and was well coached, but they lack playmakers at the skill positions.  And they better forget about this one is a hurry or they'll get beat by Cap next week.
