I read on the Springfield paper website that Witt will be spending Friday night in Lima.  I was unaware but the article claims that the NCAA requires an overnight stay for visiting teams in the playoffs in spite of the fact that both schools sit less than 90 minutes apart and are closer than many conference opponents.

that is interesting...I thought the NCAA was trying to save money through traveling?

Well it IS Lima......soooo....rooms probably run around $20-$30 a night.   ;)

Kind of like staying at the Country Squire outside of Alliance.

Lima has no Country Squire Motel/Self Storage though so it obviously can't compete with the fine city of Alliance.  Then again, Lima's got Kewpee so they're head and shoulders above the rest of the country in the burger department.

We got the world famous "Hood" cheeseburgers.

Problem being, ya gotta go into the The Hood to get them

I suspect that's to eliminate issues with weather preventing teams from being able to show up. Get them all there and make sure they're in.

I don't know 100% that it's required, but I know it's budgeted for. I believe they would pay for hotels if Capital were playing Otterbein. :)

Unless the rules have changed in the last few years, it's not required for teams to stay overnight.  When I was at Carroll and the men's basketball team had the sweet 16 and elite 8 games in Wooster, we drove back to Cleveland on Friday night after the win and back to Wooster Saturday afternoon.  Coach Moran always wanted guys off the bus and on the floor to warm up...no "sitting around at the hotel" time.

Maybe there are different rules for Football and Basketball...

Googlemaps says 485 miles from Canton, NY to Alliance, OH--7 hours if you go nonstop at 70 mph avg.  Whew--that's a long way to go for a game with a 63+ point spread!

Glad we're home!

Sadly, St. Lawrence's closest travel games are a minimum of 3.5 hours away, and has at least one 7+ hour trip a year.  Normally the spread isn't quite as big however.

St. Lawrence has a very impressive campus themselves.  My Grandparents used to live up in Madrid, NY--that part of the country is really gorgeous.

In fact, since UMU is currently in the East bracket, the game should be played in Canton, NY.  Right?
