Raider68:

I posted this over on the MIAA board, but will post it additionally here since you also asked the question here.  My picks are a little different than hornet's.

I'm probably wrong, but I'm going with Mount Union, North Central, Wesley and St. Thomas!    Who are your picks?

P.S. Yes, after that shellshacking yesterday, it will be interesting to see if Rodriquez gets the axe.  I think he will be allowed to coach in whatever bowl game Michigan gets to, but if they lose in that one, especially if it is a bad loss, I would be disappointed if they didn't let him go.  BTW, Brian Kelly lucked out last night when ND beat USC.  While I am not a fan of the former, I don't like USC's new coach either.  Also, ND's freshman QB's dad is a full-time assistant coach at Northwestern (my 2nd most favorite Big Ten team ).
I hope ricjrod stays for a long time.  BTW my nephew put the hit on D. Robinson that put him out of the game in the 2nd quarter.  Go bucks.

joelmamma:

You're killing me i.e. RichRod! ;D ;D Congrats to your nephew and the Ohio State team for their fine victory.  They are a very good team; I admit also that I like Tressel in all aspects.  He runs a class program.  I also liked how he got on his players about the "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalties after their scores (i.e. the "Big O finger/hand formation).  While many people do not agree with that NCAA rule not allowing these young players to express their emotion after a great play or score, "rules are rules" and Tressel, IMO handles that well and appropriately.  Anyway, I'll be rooting for OSU in whatever bowl they end up going to (unlike some of your OSU people who wouldn't do that for our U of Michigan ;) :) :P ::))

Here's hoping there won't be any snow for this Saturday's game at Mount.  I remember going to a couple of playoff games there in the last decade and 1/2 and it is always colder with the snow! :)  BTW, has Mount fixed/upgraded the heating system in the Visitor's lockerroom under the stands yet? ??? :)

There's a brand new coal-burning stove.  No chimney though.  We've gone green and can't let the smoke into the atmosphere.

70s- you may have some memory issues. It was 2008 when Franklin beat the OAC #2 at their place in the tournament. Many of the same players on franklin team. alzheimers??

Not the same as coming in second in the OAC. You got eight other teams to deal with. Anyway Otterbien was a fluke. (Refer to "Glowing Ember" remark) One game did not make me suddenly think the Heartland was a force to reckoned with.

No, but we did install several shiny new nails. Pretty sure the toilet is still in the middle of the room

Maybe not the Heartland, but Chad Rupp sure was a force to be reckoned with - as NCC also found out! ;D

emma17-Pretty sure you'll get your wish. I'm one of the ones leaning towards NCC, but this s/b a very close game. I'm going with the home team who hasn't really missed a beat all year.
;D

skunks_sidekick

OTT was a paper #2 in the OAC that year.  How ANYONE with any kind of toughness lost to them (yah you ONU and CAP) is beyond comprehension.

Trine/schmine/who wants to whine...they are gone.  ONU had a chance to step up...they are gone.  Linfield was picked by many to beat St. Thomas...they are gone.

It's all about the contenders now....the pretenders are gone.

As for Alfred.....please bring your A game.  No "first time at Mount jitters"......no "never been this far in the play-offs".......no "two bounces this way or that and its a 7 point game" crap.

Let's see what happens...... ;D

I'm with ya Sidekick. Time to talk about the "Beast of the East" (and root for Bethel)

Sidekick, Theaprof, HurfMUC, Mtfan, etc:  With a potential trip to Minnesota for the semi-finals screwing up our annual week 14 wing & beer fest, should we consider moving it up a week and do it this Friday night?  Or do we want to roll the dice that Bethel will save us?

I'm really disappointed and embarrassed for you sidekick for calling out ONU for their 2008 loss to Otterbein after one of the captains' fathers died en route to the game.  The fact that they came out and competed at all given the circumstances showed true grit and perseverance.

A couple of you Mount guys are really going out of your ways to say some especially questionable things.  It's hard to defend the OAC/Mounties to outsiders lately.

I'd like to think the OAC is better than all this pot-stirring and ember-fanning.

*I stand corrected about the 2008 loss.  It sure seems like longer than 2009 when the tragedy struck.  My apologies for confusing the dates.  So again, I apologize for my statement sidekick.

RC:  Can you please try to work a trade to send 70's to the NCAC?  He can't be any tougher to trade than the deal you worked up for Doeder.

I'm a Buckeyes fan who always pulls for Big Ten teams vs. other conferences.  The bowl game a few years ago when Michigan took out the heavily favored Gators was great.

seventiesraider

OK, firstly it was the 2009 ONU-ONU game where an ONU parent died on the way to the game and the Bears lost 38-36 on a missed chipshot FG.

And given that there are three great playoff games this week and ........Mount Union-Alfred. LIGHTEN UP. What are we going to talk about? The Owls running attack?

Wow, get a sense of humor.

I think I worked something out.  It's hard to tell the terms of the deal because the NCAC president kept using all this high-society language that I could barely comprehend with my meager OAC education but the terms of the deal as I can best understand them are as follows.

There are two active offers to vote on.

Option 1:

The NCAC gets seventiesraider, John Carroll University and half a case of Cholula Hot Sauce (I just threw that in because I have a hook-up).

The OAC gets Hiram back, a dozen unsold NCAC 25th Anniversary sweatshirts, and a lifetime exemption on Wooster/Mount Union chatter.

Option 2 has a little more going on:

The NCAC gets seventiesraider, Marietta (because they're one of the few "colleges" left in our impersonal and huge-enrollment conference), Larry Kinnard's unused OSU gear and mandatory Wally Wabash striped pants for all Otterbein fans all the time and we have to pretend to like it.

The OAC gets Allegheny (just because the NCAC thinks if would be funny for the Ohio Athletic Conference to have a team from PA as a member), a ten-year Kenyon vs. Mount Union swimming invitational where Mount swimmers must bow down to Kenyon in some sort of public display and we must promote stoonk as our lifetime conference ambassador for Division III.

rc:
Option #2 might not be all that bad as precedence has been already set i.e. the MIAA has members outside of the state of Michigan (Trine and St. Mary's-latter non-football of course) and also had that prior to Trine with Wisconsin Lutheran and Defiance. ;D  On the other hand, we (MIAA) don't have a guy like seventiesraider. ;) :D so option #2 would be the added bonus ???  BTW, where has the Oracle been for the past couple of years (or his bro' Dale Karmie?) ;D

+k rc!

Oh, my! ;D  That, indeed, wasn't fun trying to do your duty in the middle of the room with everyone else around.  Wasn't fun for them either (as I recall, the fans didn't work that well at the time) ;D

+k seventies for the laugh for the evening!
