Pierre Garcon is still a good enough blocker to get noticed by announcers by leading the way for a Reggie Wayne TD. Not a good block, a great one

PG catches a pretty good ball too.

Missed the game, but saw the box score this AM. PG had a 30 yard TD. Wonder how the Colts will do in the playoffs? :-\

Happy New Year to everyone......a couple of random thoughts:

--Pierre is fun to watch.  He is a great downfield blocker and has the speed to destroy single coverage.  However, he has the occasional dropped pass, which may not bode well when Gonzales returns.  Manning looked pretty frustrated on a couple of his passes that PG should have caught.....of course, Manning looks frustrated when ANY of his passes aren't caught.

--With the demise of Haywood at Pitt over the felony domestic violence charge, will Miami now be referred to as the "Cradle of Convicts"??

--Our oldest son returned from Baghdad on December 8th.....during his deployment he was "friended" by a mother of one of the OSU football players (Brewster).  What a wonderful lady!  There was a recent write-up in the Columbus Dispatch about their friendship and Tressel's commitment to our troops......one of those things that gets overlooked when all of our attention is on jerseys and gold pant charms......

Blutarsky,

Glad your oldest son is back! :)

Regarding Pierre, IMHO Gonzales will not be the "wide" receiver for Indy. Injury prone and not the speed or blocking ability. Collie is real good, but who knows his future given the head injuries. Pierre will get better then watch out, since he has all the talents, but consistency has been a problem this year. On several occasions this year. Peyton's passes have not even been close either!

Pierre's position on the line outside of the twins formation tends to draw double coverage by pulling the safety towards him because of his speed running a deep out or fade leaving the slot (Clark, Collie, or Tamme) wide open.  I believe PG85's success in last year's AFC championship game has attracted more coverage his way.  Manning tends to only target PG on sticks, slants, or short in routes, often when he is only receiver on his side of the formation.  I seriously doubt his position on the Colts is in danger, but anyone in that position will not be as effective without a stud in the slot.  PG's drop in production is probably more a result of Clark's injury than any other factor this year.  If Clark plays he will attract more attention than the other receivers they have installed in the slot since he went down.

Yes, congrats on your son's safe return and thank him for me please for his service to our country and all of us.  Also, indeed, that is refreshing to hear about that lady's and Tressel support for him and the troops in light of all the "other stuff" that goes on/has been cocerning college football right now.  Thanks for sharing that.

SbS:
I agree with your assessment.  I enjoyed watching Garcon play last evening.  I think everyone would agree that Manning, while still a great quarterback, has obviously not been as accurate or having as good of season as he has had in recent years.  He is off target quite a bit.  Still, it is great to see the former Mount Union great contributing a lot and it will be interesting to see just how far the Colts can go this year.

The one shot where Manning appeared frustrated, Garcon had broke his route to turn back and help him but slipped and fell. Kinda hard to catch a pass laying on your chest on the ground. Granted he missed some easier ones but was underthrown a lot as well. Hey, there is a world of a lot of difference between Reggie Wayne and Pierre, but he is still fun to watch.

Thanks for his service and your sacrifice. My brother and I played the back to back tour thing in Southeast Asia. Kinda hard for the family.

Hope the Buckeyes can improve the Big 10's record! Yeah, I said "hope". History is not on their side against the SEC. At least Arkansas does not wear purple in this one! ;D

For the record, Pierre set career bests with his number of catches, receiving yards, TD's and first downs.  He certainly has a little issue dropping catchable throws from time to time but he did have a pretty solid regular season.
