good news out of Jacksonville.....Cecil is making himself known early!

From Jagnation.com rookie report:

"The Jaguars receiver from Mount Union has been nothing short of remarkable, as he has showed great polish for a small school guy. Shorts has caught everything thrown his way, whether it's between the numbers, diving to the ground or lunging with one hand. Shorts is bigger than he looked in film and plays quicker as well. Gabbert to Shorts could be a great combination for several years."

Been out of the loop as of late with football camp, getting ready to start another school-year in the classroom and just  being plain old busy but I wanted to encourage anyone who is on the fence or who is new to the site to register for Kickoff 2011.  This website is a great resource for all of us and the Kickoff preview is a great read.  I just submitted my write-ups for 2011 so you can also read what I wrote if you're really desperate!  Thanks guys.

What's the situation with pick ems?
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)
OAC Runners-Up: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1982, 1941 (Stupid Mount Union!)
MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

Raider 68

From the D3 Pre-season Top 25, it sure looks like many of the same teams are picked high again, the question is for 2011 who will be the surprize team this fall or not? :)

I don't know about the surprize (sic) team but I'll take a stab at the "not" teams.  The following teams will not be surprizes (sic) as it relates to the top 25 poll:

Wilmington
Marietta
Hiram
Kenyon (unless it's swimming)
North Park
Earlham

I don't know about Kenyon swimming not being a surprise...they didn't even win the championship last year.

"Gabbert to Shorts" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Seaman to Shorts"......oh well, the good 'ol days.

I'm not real sure about Cap this year.  Not as plugged in as I have been in the past.  I do know, like everyone else, that they lose a QB who was All-OAC a couple of times, a RB who was only the second guy in school history to run for 1000 yds in a season, a couple of tall, fast, all-OAC caliber WR's, and most of the secondary from a team that underachieved last year in a big way.

On the flip side, the presumed starting QB this year got a lot of experience last year when Assmann got hurt and they have some reasonable talent returning in a few places, especially on the DL.  Also, they have a roster posted on the website that includes about 55 players (mostly Freshmen) who look like they are new to the program this season.  I don't know jack about any of them, except that one is from Lexington- how did BJ Payne let a kid get to an OAC school other than MUC?

Anyway, I figure if Cap plays to their potential, they are probably a middle of the pack team.  A few breaks could mean a 7-3 year, but that's about as far as I would go with it.
The coaching staff is a joke as is the administrations support of the program!

Not sure about the coaching staff.  They have a lot of young guys looking to make their mark, but I couldn't agree with you more about the administration.   :D

I know nothing about their coaching abilities, but there are at least a few coaches on the staff who are former Capital players from the Collins days, so they have a vested interest in the program and trying to restore it.  I just don't think the administration, like you said, is going to give them what they need to succeed.

Perhaps the Cap. Admin. would be happier in the NCAC.

God, no, I hope not.  Not sure I could handle that.  Have had some conversations with some people at Cap, and I get the feeling that it's not an active "de-emphasizing" of athletics as much as it is a general apathy and lack of a clear mission and vision on how athletics fit into the overall structure and vision that the new administration has for the University.

Either way, it's pretty sad that we've fallen so far so fast and will probably continue to slide back to mediocrity or worse and no one but a few like me will take umbrage with it.

Quick question about Kickoff.  When you register and are sent a password, will that password not work until Kickoff is released later in the month?  This is my first year ordering, but know that others have had password issues in the past.  Thanks!

Mount Union picked as preseason #1 by both coaches and media.  ONU picked up LK's vote.

From the OAC Coaches and Media Poll, the 2011 Pre-seasom, the consensus top 4 are:

Mount Union
Ohio Northern
Baldwin Wallace
Otterbein

Heidelberg and John Carroll share No. 5
13 time Division III National Champions

I think everyone picking Mount first is a total no-brainer and obviously doesn't merit a discussion.  After that though, this year I believe it's a toss-up between BW, OTT and ONU for second.  The difference between second and fourth could be minimal.
