From Peter King's MMQB this morning:

"Great note by Vito Stellino in the Florida Times Union. He wrote the Jags, under character-conscious Gene Smith, didn't have a single player on the 90-man roster from scandal-plagued USC, Miami (Fla.) or Ohio State. But they did have two apiece from Mount Union (Ohio) and Norfolk State, where, presumably, $50,000 checks are not being written to star players."

Exactly....they are not being written to star players, they are being written from star players.

Mount traditionally scrimmages Washington and Jefferson. It will be at Mount 8/26 at 10:00 AM. Mount's photo/media day will be this Wednesday at 1PM and is open to fans, parents and media

Anyone know when the Purple-White scrimmage will be, if it has even been announced?

and it looks like the 2011 Freshman List is going to be added soon:

The Fla. pipeline seems alive and well, and the numbers from Virginia,Texas and Georgia are impressive.  There are even players from California and Colorado.  Looks like Mount Union is becoming a national institution. :o

Must be a big draw to be able to play for a university.   ::)

With some top talented freshman, it will be interesting to see who moves up to varsity when the season begins. Neal Seaman did when he came to Mount! :)

If you guys get Kickoff When you guys get Kickoff, take a trip over the SCIAC capsules and the Q&A with Oxy Coach Dale Widolff.  I got to expand my contribution this year to the Kickoff project in writing an article along with my team and conference capsules.

I enjoyed that article.  Especially how you didn't shy away from the suspension from a year ago.

Thank you.  I had a great time interviewing Dale.  I had a chance to meet him and tour the campus last summer (before the suspension news was made public) along with touring Redlands, Pomona and CMS.  I don't know how anyone finds time to study at Oxy.  It's a beautiful campus.  They all were really.

I can only speak to freshman I saw play last couple of years in hs and Brent Marshall, LB  from Garretsville Garfield is the real deal. Pre-Post season All-Conference. Only better kid in the conference was from Mogadore and he woulda needed a tutor to fill out the college application.

Chase Cole from Akron Springfield was a novel combination of Defensive Lineman/Quarterback at 230 lb and 6'3". Reminds me of Randall Knapp who insisted on playing Qb at Field and Larry insisted was a Tight End.

Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Small but Slow

Several players I have either coached or been associated with the past few years have begun their careers in the OAC this past week.  From what I've heard from family and other coaches they've been impressed by the level of competition and quality of the coaching and facilities.  These kids are all quality players, students, and young men who will share their experience with other kids around here.  The pipeline will continue to get stronger with word of mouth.
