Ya know I was going to check TMQ this morning. I saw the Berg score, followed the game, and the first thought - because of the NYT article - was "what is Easterhack going to put in TMQ?". But I got distracted this morning and didn't get around to it until 9PM. And as a result - I was not the one to hit the boards first with the story and link. Damn! Oh well. Easterhack (and that is exactly what he is) has never bothered to be concerned with accuracy before and he won't start now. He sees the final score and decides what happened without looking any deeper. He sees Mount doesn't lose and concludes they play the Sisters of the Poor. I have decided that he attended Mount and wanted to play football - but another player gave him an atomic wedgie in the locker room before practice. So he went back to his room, cried and then transferred to some school on the East coast where he could one day exact his revenge on Mount. Of course none of the is true (or is it...?) - but the image of him with his underwear overtop of his head (like the commercial for the travel website) at least makes me laugh. Easterhack is - in the immortal words of R. Lee Ermey - a jackwagon.

God forbid Mr Poopy Pants sees the results of the Number 1 passing offense vs the 236th passing defense this weekend

I'm with Pat, there are probably at least a dozen articles written about Mount. Slightly obsessive for a national writer to be so concerned with a small D3 school in Ohio, isn't there some big state school in Wisconsin he can focus on now?

From the perspective of regularly whomping conference opponents like Mt has done, there isn't a big state school in WI he can focus on.  He may have it in for Mt and he's ignorant to the facts of scheduling, but from the outside looking in he sees:
Just going back to 2007 season, Mt has won 28 conference games by 35 points or more- that's 5 touchdowns a game.  In 2007 Mt beat every OAC team by 35 or more.

I don't hold Mt responsible, but certainly the rest of the OAC needs to get it going.

Emma, its satire or sarcasm.  We all get it the big bad WIAC is the best D3 conference of all time, the OAC is a joke sans Mount.  Maybe in 10-15 years, a hack journalist will discover your alma mater and decide that your beloved Warhawks are a disgrace to collegiate football.  I really hope that UWW tops the MUC-UWO score from the first game of the season this weekend, or that would be a huge monkey wrench in the D3 comparative score theme that rules some around the board.

Still the attitude with you- are you always this crotchety way?  The intent of my post was to place the blame of the lopsided scores where it belongs.  If my intent was to promote the best conference in the country, the WIAC isn't the one I'd be promoting.

Raider 68

Assuming the Top 25 remains much the same by season's end, it looks like the Top teams from the East region Monclair State and Delaware Valley are the strongest teams. It looks again that if Mount wins out, they again could be sent to the East region for the playoffs given more teams in the North. Maybe this year the NCAA will move another team as the number 1 seed rather than sending the Raiders East again! :-\

I too find Easterbrook to be a jerk and based on reviews his books have relieved on Amazon.com many others do as well.  Below is a few I cut and pasted from Amazon book reviews of  Tuesday Morning Quarterback: Haiku and Other Whimsical Observations to Help You Understand the Modern Game (Hardcover)

The football gods will punish this dufus for "writing" this tripe. He wouldn't recognize a football if it hit him in the nutz.

Another reviewer wrote:

I don't even have to read the book to know it is horrible, just look who wrote it. I am guessing he commented on certain games without actually watching them. Just a moron trying to throw around his opinion.

and another wrote

I don't even have to read the book to know it is horrible, just look who wrote it. I am guessing he commented on certain games without actually watching them. Just a moron trying to throw around his opinion.

and finally this review, which seems to show a pattern of Easterbrook being anti powerhouse

Anyone who has never played competitive sports nor even watch a particular game should not be spouting off stupid remarks just to increase readership. That is exactly what Gregg Easterbrook did. How can he possible spew out that the Oklahoma Sooners ran up the score against Houston with a score of 63-13 while in the same breath say that Western Illinois did not run up the final score of 98-7 against Cheyenne. Our starting quarterback only played the first series of the entire second quarter as did most of the rest of the starting team. Easterbrook's fervent jealousy and/or dislike of the Oklahoma football program is pretty evident in his ill conceived column. Like Mike Lupica of last year, it is quite obvious that Easterbrook did not watch the game or even the highlights, but simply wrote his nonsensical diatribe based on preconceived prejudices against Oklahoma. How someone who has never been nothing more than a "couch potato" write a book on football and expect anyone to take it seriously is a mystery to me. Personally, I believe his latest attempt at writing, "Tuesday Morning Quarterback..." is a horrible and elementary written book, and like Easterbrook, I came to this belief without reading the book, like he did not watch the game.

Yea, the Badgers really look good this year.

Here is an argument that I haven't seen anyone make about how stupid Easterbrooks writing is:
49-0
55-0
62-14
55-3
56-0
59-7
52-10
62-14
49-0
What do all of these scores have in common?  They are scores of playoff games that Mount Union has won in the past 5 years.
Should UMU tell  the NCAA to skip the first two rounds of the playoffs because the teams are not good enough for Greg Easterbrook?  At least 2-3 of these games took place in the quarter and semi finals.  One year farther back the championship game was 60 something to not very much.  Should D3 make a decision in a year like that to just give Mount the championship and not play any games because it would be embarassing?  Should they have told Billy Borchert since you can throw 67 TD's and only 3 interceptions you are too good to play for a D3 school even though nobody offered him a  scholarship?

For an ignorant jerk Easterbrook sure is getting a lot of attention.  ;)
12-0 = 13

Borchert's senior year (1997):
275-of-413/ 66.6% / 4,335 yds / 63 TDs / 2 INTs

He was "average" at best.  Remember HSC...we weren't playing anybody and just running up the score and stats.   ::)

By the way.......you have to be proud and excited for those Minerva boys!  It's cool they were able to vanquish the alleged "big two".  I hope they go far.

Jr. has had a reality check, and all I will say is (and I did to him) that he needs to learn, work, and get better.

A tough season for the Vikings.  I'm betting it won't be repeated.

LK is getting two QB's ready for the playoffs. He is going to use Seaman to run the ball more during the playoffs and then bring in Piloto for bombs away. He is preparing for the title game now. Seaman is the better runner and more skillful executing screens, draws, and options. Piloto will get a chance to hit our really good wide receivers ala Cecil Shorts in the title game in 08. LK will adapt to the defense he sees and will have strong alternatives at hand. This is all about going 15-0.

Gotta agree with Purple. Last year nobody really seemed to own the job. This year it looks much more like the Burghardt-Bruney years where they were both the QB and are running their own plays with their own troops, Two headed QB, 5 headed receiving corp and nation leading running game. The futures so bright, I gotta wear shades

Yeah, it's been a fun season to follow.  Did the Marlington/Minerva game and spent most of it trying to sound disappointed on the air when Minerva did something positive.  Get that job again tonight with Alliance hosting them.

Good luck to Junior.  Tough season to play though and keep your spirits up.
