I am not making any excuses but this Mount Union team needs to cut out the horrendous starts on the road.  Each road game it seems like the guys are just going through the motions.  6-0 at half in the Mud Bowl, 0-0 after 1 at the Berg, and 3-0 at half today.  Those kind of starts are not going to fly against quality teams.  I realize the weater was a factor in two of the three games.

As for today's game.  I was there and was witness to one of the worst throwing performances by a Mount QB in recent memory.  Seaman was not even close for the entire first half. Whether it was missing open WR downfield by about 5 yards or under-throwing nearly every throw.  Not just the 15 yard outs that only went about 12 yards, but throwing WR screen passes at the WR's shoelaces.  Piloto was not much better either.  At one point having a shotgun snap go right through his hands, scramble around and throw the ball away to avoid a major loss.  He was shortly replaced by Burke, who ran a couple of QB draws.

The lack of a passing game made red zone trips pretty conservative.  LK seemed determined to pound a TD on the ground each time.  Hats off to Cap for stuffing those, but Mount has to execute better.  I'm not certain, but Mount could not have thrown much more than five passes in the 2nd half.  Simon looked good with his physical style of running and that Raiders defense is legit.  I'm not sure there is a better defensive player in D3 than Nick Driskill, even though he wasn't even a 2nd team pre-season all-american

I won't second guess Larry when it comes to football, but perhaps letting guys spend the night in Columbus before the game looks like a real bad idea.

Yeah.  That's why the game was closer than it was supposed to be.  Give me a break!  Can't another team ever get any credit for showing up against Mount Union?  Why does it have to be "staying in Columbus overnight" or "sloppy field conditions" or "a plague of toads" or whatever other sign of the apocalypse that causes a <40 point margin of victory?

Oh I remember the Plague of Toads. If those damn toads would have stayed off the field Mount beats ONU by 60 instead of losing by a score. The toads seemed to honor - even listen to - Coach Paul cause they disappeared when ONU had the ball. Very strange indeed. ;D
Seriously though - most Mount people give credit where it is due. I said in reference to the ONU game that they deserved all the credit in the world (and that field conditions...oh sorry). I think CAPs D played inspired today and they showed Mount has some issues. But if Mount had not stayed in Columbus and drank the CAP kool-aid..............

Mount beats Osh-Kosh by 24.

Whitewater beats Osh-Kosh by 3.

Therefore Mount is obviously better than Whitewater by three scores.

(Now I sound like some of our more opinionated Mount posters.)

;D This is fun.

Very true indeed. My favorite is Berg beats CAP 55-3, Mount beats Berg 56-7, Mount beats CAP 111-4!!! Whoo-hoo! Go Raiders!!! ???

BTW - ++K for Purplesuit! I had not really paid attention to the slow road starts. In Mounts favor though is that an undefeated season (I am hexing you BW) will have Mount hosting playoff games where they seem to get off to a better start. With luck they can get it corrected before the Stagg Bowl....not that I am assuming they will win out and play in it or anything.

Coach Kehres does not appreciate a fumble inside the 10 yard line and J. Murray did not play another down.

Raider 68, Coach Kehres is an icon in the coach profession, but this is one area he is not unique.

RC - did you watch or hear the game?  If you did, and if you heard what HSCoach had to say, it was less about CAP's D and more about Mount's QB's not being able to throw the ball anywhere NEAR a receiver.  Kudos to CAP for battling, but receivers were definitely open all day, and many throws were barely in the same zip code.

LK will only put up with that (and a fumble) for so long, and then he will just say....."hmm..yahhhh.....how about we just RUN the ball the rest of the game".  It's his MO for a very long time.

I am not sure what the answer is at QB, but neither kid has really consistently shown he should be "the man".  I think we will be stuck with the two-headed QB unless an injury, or really horrible play dictates something else.

Mount has failed to showup in the 1st half against the Berg, ONU and Cap

Reminds me of Indian's starting pitchers

I followed the game.  I know about the QB inaccuracy both from hscoach's commentary and posts on this forum.  I was addressing the outlandish statement that staying in Columbus overnight was to blame for a game not decided by 7 touchdowns.  Purplesuit made an accurate observation about slow starts on the road and I think it's also accurate that certain Mount faithful (we all know who they are) can't seem to ever give any kind of credit to the opposition.  Instead of saying CAP did a nice job hanging in there in spite of having very little offense and a QB running for his life on just about every passing down, we have to reason that sleeping on uncomfortable hotel mattresses and itchy sheets is the reason for a competitive contest in Bexley.  Many purple faithful have no problem tipping their cap (even just a little).  Then there are those that have to find an excuse or justification to not have Gregg Easterbrook take notice on Tuesday morning.

I give Cap all the credit in the world...they played an excellent game. If it wasn't for their TO's who knows what might have been...thank you "D". Mount fans are not used to the offense playing poorly and they did...it's ok to bounce a basketball but not a forward pass. It will be interesting to see how it plays out next week.

I, for one, would like to see each qb play a complete game.

Anyone heard the status of J. Collins injury? :-\

Both the Cap and Raider defense played very well. The Cap D had the big push in the first half and the Raider D forced 4 turnovers and held Cap to 159 yards. Regarding the Mount offense, both QB's had really off games and the stats show it. 400+ yards of offense still is pretty good. Three regular season games left and Coach Kehres will have them ready!

I am asking a serious question. I have not been to the Mount Union stadium but have been going to OAC games for a couple of years (lots as a student), and as I have met and tailgated with fans of other teams all I hear is horror stories of visiting to play the Raiders.

I have always just passed it off as sour grapes as teams journey up to get their annual butt kicking, but I just wondered the take of all the Mount fans.

They say that the visiting fans have assigned seats and not even together and that they are sprinkled amongst UMU fans and that the verbal tormenting is virtually unbearable. With a program of such tradition I can't beleive fans would be this way and that a university would split the oppositions fans up. I am assuming both of these again can be chalked up to sour grapes.

I mean one of the gifts of success should be humilty and class and that is what I am expecting this upcomig Saturday as I take my pligrimage up to Alliance and watch my son's team get their annual tail kicking.

Also, I have ALWAYS rooted for the Mount in all thier championship runs, I hope that these people are all wrong and I can continue to pull for the OAC in this years run.

Thank you.

Bein_86,

First of all I hope you can come to the game and maybe the weather will be like this weekend.

Here are a few thoughts:

1. Certainly you can join in any tailgate activities and you will be welcome.

2. I suggest the lunch before the game at the Hoover Price Campus Center close to the stadium
The food is great and you will meet alot of friendly Mount fans and hopefully some Ott fans as well! :)

3. Usually, the visitor section has a good group of seats together so that should not be an issue.

4. I believe you will find most all the Mount fans cordial and respectful, but as always there are always
those from every school that are not as respectful as they soon be.

5. You will find a great football atmosphere on a beautifull campus.

In the end, it is a positive experience regardless of the score. Hope you can make it! :)

Raider 68, I will be there. I have made a promise to my son that I would make every game that is humanly possible. I love him with all my heart and always want to be there to support him.
