EX Tartan - great post. It illustrates (at least to me) my point about the revolving door the Browns have had in recent years. Since 1999 they have had Chris Palmer, Butch Davis, Romeo Crennel, Eric Mangini and Pat Shurmur roaming the sidelines. Each one with their own idea for the make-up of the team. I heard a stat when Crennel took over (and I have no idea how to verify it) that the Browns had 5 players on the roster in 2005 that were on the roster in 2000. A new QB, head coach and offensive coordinator every 2-3 years is no way to build stability. That is why I don't understand all the "get rid of Colt McCoy" stuff from fans. Kid played part of a season last year - and now has an entriely new system and coach. He may as well be a rookie at this point.

The problem with all of those coaches is that they aren't NFL caliber head coaches.  If they were good, they would've gotten another shot.  Not one of them has even been mentioned as a potential hire anywhere else except in a coordinator role.

I'm willing to give Shurmur at least two years, but like Eric Mangini, if there isn't tangible progress...hit the bricks.  You're paid to win football games, not go 5-11 in back to back seasons.

To get back to the original point, I don't think Robiskie is a fit in Jacksonville either.  He needs to be somewhere with a dominant #1, because he's not going to be anything more than a possession receiver...and let's be honest, if you can't get on the field with the Browns receiving corps, I don't see you getting on the field anywhere.

Does anyone know what Kyle Miller is doing?

He's been at the games.  I can ask him if you want.  Everytime I see his imposing, humble self I think, "somebody ought to snatch you up." I'll ask around...

An interesting point Toph and one which I agree with you on (re: McCoy), even though I am not a Browns fan.  Although I'm sure some people will disagree with me, I kind of compare/liken your opinion/assessment about McCoy to Tebow.  People are "blasting" him from everywhere, yet in reality, he has not played a full season as a starter yet, so IMO, he needs to be given a legitimate chance, just like you are suggesting for McCoy, Shurmur, etc.  Denver has had a rather disheveled past 2 years as well with turnover in both players and coaching (not all McDaniel's fault either, but also due to some of the players and the ownership IMO).  So see what happens with both teams and if progress does not occur to an accepatable level, then as you say it's time to move on.  Then again, that involves another change and you are right in that frequent change does not lend to stability.  We've seen that in some college programs as well.  Enjoyed your comments and assessment on this topic - thanks.

Formerd3db: Good point. Agian I am not a Browns fan - but I hear the radio guys and the fans already saying "dump McCoy" and "fire Shurmur" and all I think is really? After essentially half a season you are ready to cut bait? Its a vicious cycle. They want stability but they refuse to allow the QB and Coach a full season (or 2) to get better, which leads to a new Head Coach (new system), new QB and then 6 games in "it's not working". I like McCoy - not a fan of Tebow - and think he can turn the Browns around. But he and Shurmur have to have time to gel and get on the same page. Hate to say it - but you Brownies are used to it - next year, or the one after.

Keep hearing ESPN make reference to "game of the century" and was thinking "well yeah the BW game is big but..." 8-) Turns out LSU and Alabama are playing. Who knew. Who cares? Go Raiders!!!

Thanks.  I think you and toph have "hit the nail on the head".  Also, just curious - you mention you are not a fan of Tebow - why?  Is that regarding his ability as a QB or the "other stuff" i.e. character, which, IMO, is equally important contrary to what some people (the haters) and players think. ;)

One of the neat things about college football is today for example. In the OAC the big game is UMU/BW, nationally all we have heard for over a week is the game of the century (this years version) LSU/Bama and all I care about are two 2-6 teams fighting for an elusive win as OTT takes on Etta.

Gotta love the game. Also congrats to my nephews HS team, Marion Pleasant who won in the first round of the D-5 playoffs last night 79-7 ( not a misprint, the did not score in the fourth quarter and the starters only played one series in the 3rd.).

I love Tebows character. I will take a guy like that over a Vince Young or Pacman Jones (with all the strip club, partying, in the news for the wrong reasons) anyday. But Tebow is not an NFL QB. He is a great athelete - reminds me of Kordell Stewart "Slash" for the Steelers. Tebow could play 3 or 4 positions really well and be a threat to throw in certain situations (ala Antwan Randel El, Hines Ward, "Slash"). But he, like Slash, wants to be a full time QB. I think his team would be better and he would be more successful as a multiple threat. Slash wanted to be a QB and got his wish - careful what you wish for. I would just hate to see Tebows desire to be a QB result in him not being in the league 3 years down the road. That would be wasted talent.

No Ric again this week?  I'm only hearing the commercials again.  I hope they get this audio issue figured out at some point.

Same here.  In the mean time, WRMU is up (at least on IE ... sounds like Ric on FireFox):
