The Canton Repository reported the individual responsible for the injury to Clayton Hall was arrested. LK spoke to the HOF lunch crowd in Canton today and indicated the young man should have a full recovery and even perhaps play again. He is not paralyzed.

Great news!  Was he initially paralyzed, or were early reports overly melodramatic?

His father was quoted in the Fox 8 Cleveland story as saying:
QuoteClayton's father Tim told Fox 8, "Second question he wanted to know is, 'When will I be able to play football again?' He wants to get back with his Mount Union family and continue what he does, and the doctor said if this heals correctly, he can live a normal life and do the things that he wants to do."

Just back from the West Coast, great news on Clayton Hall! Best wishes for him and a speedy recovery! :)

The spreads for the first round of the OAC Playoff Pick-Em Contest have been posted.

Each game this week is worth one point.  And the regular season is thrown out, so everyone starts anew.  New competitors are welcome.

Note that all games all start at 12:00 in their local timezone.  Try to get your picks in by Noon on Saturday, EST.  As in the regular season, I will accept late ballots, but no credit for games that have already started.

Let the games begin!
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

Classy post and great season for your son, Bein_86.  Aside from adding his name in the Ott record book I'm sure 1st-team All-OAC and possibly the Ed Sherman Award are on the horizon.  You've been a great addition to the board so I'm happy to hear you'll be around regularly at least another year.  +K

Thanks. 1st team would ber a great honor. I do, not know what the Ed Sherman Award is however. Must be a good one.

Lots of very good players in this league. I just hope Trey has the coaches respect. He played very hard this year as did all those young men each saturday

Sorry....the Ed Sherman Award is given to the OAC's best WR each year.  I would be surprised if he didn't win it.

That would certainly be a high honor with such other fine WR's in this conference. The family would be humbled by that, knowing the struggles he has endured since HS with injuries and such, it would be something that would be nice to be recognized.

An article in today's Canton Repository quotes LK as saying Neal will not be ready to play this week.  LK said the injury Neal has takes at least 4 weeks to heal and this is only week three.

I think that schools with great tail gating traditions should have some sort of automatic qualifier. Would take the boredom out of the first round if we could host Bridgewater or St Johns and at least have a party to go back to at half time

Reasons why I'm more optimistic this year. In 2010 UWW was 1st in Total Offense and 5th in Total Defense while Mount Union was 22nd and 4th. This year UWW is 19th in total Offense and 20th in total defenses while Mount Union is 9th and 1st. So despite the naysayers this is a better team.

Seventies, how does it go?
Wait for it................................- it's all about the competition played.

In your opinion, was the WIAC stronger this year than last year, if so by how much? :-\

Oh geesh!  Now we are doomed.  Raider 68, DO NOT let Emma wemma get on his soap box about how much better the WIAC is then amyone on the PLANET, as he probably still can't understand why UWO isn't a #1 seed in the tournament.   ::) 8-)

Come on now 68- don't stoop to Skunks' bottom rung. I'll answer for myself.
Yes, the WIAC was absolutely better this year than last year- not a doubt in my mind. That said, I was just funnin' w Seventies as I agree that UWW's stats are down this year- and I don't think it's all due to the conference improvement.
As for UWO- unfortuntately they are where they should be for losing a game they should have won.

Oh and Skunks, it wasn't the WIAC I was promoting as the best conference. I think the ASC gets that title w CCIW second. But you never were one to let the facts get in the way of being what you are.

Not sure how 70's came up with his screwy numbers - maybe his girlfriend just selected her favorite numbers based on the pretty sound of them - but I'm almost 100% certain UWW was never #1 nationally in total offense last year. This year offense UMU #7, UWW #24; Defense UMU #1 (when have we seen that before?), UWW #18.  But you forgot one important stat for this year - Total Average attendance UWW #1 (8,040/game) UMU #13 (4,043). Also, Mount was probably #1 in defense heading into the Stagg only to come out #4 (if that number is actually correct). Seriously, posting the link where you found last years numbers would be helpful. I simply don't believe your numbers are correct for last year. It would be interesting to see what the numbers were like heading into the playoffs and then after the Stagg Bowl.

Although my frame of reference is only 3 years, I agree the the WIAC conference has seen improvement each of the last two years and I also agree that UWW stats are down this year because of better overall competition in the Conference, injuries, stupid penalities and a fairly young offensive line that really just started to gel after a major injury to the starting center during the Oshkosh game.  They rearranged personnel (slide the right guard to center and put a new right guard in) and actually got stronger.

Only time will tell about whether UWW makes it to Salem, but I for one thoroughly enjoy each and every week and if fortune allows UWW and UMU to be in Salem at the same time, I will see many of you again in some of the watering holes in downtown Salem during the Dickens Festival.  Good Luck to UMU.

The quoted stats are wrong.   Here is a link that can start you off.  You can look at each year and which week and see where teams were ranked.  Prior to the Stagg Bowl UWW Offense was #10.   Here it is:
