UMU , great win and good luck this week against Centre..

OAC

Nominee for most over-the-top use of 'great'. 8-)

It was against a team that lost to 0-for-the-millenium-in-CCIW-play North Park! :P  It was freakin' Benedictine, not UWW! ;D

After the season we had any win is great. Just wish you guys could have kept their back to under 175 all purpose yards so my kid could have moved up a spot. LOL.  :P

The OAC is a strong conference. BU is, about like us or Marietta.

[Just funnin' ya, Bein - I enjoy your posts.]

Uh oh, now Bein is gonna have to enroll in HScoach's University of Quoting! ;D

See you at the Stagg.

Hey, Purp (and I don't mean that in a criminal justice type way, United Kingdom spelling)

Glad you chimed in here .  I visited the Wacki site for the first time  this morning, looking for some WWWWWWWWWWWWWW post-game banter and all I could find was a lot of angst about attendance in competition with Wisconsin's opening of deer hunting season-- what a hoot!  I recognized names of several occasional posters from your side of the board and was going to crack wise, but I didn't want to get dinged by some who might take this stuff (especially their deer hunting) seriously.

Hope to see you in Salem.  Especially if the Warhawks are molting this year.  ;D

Deer hunting has been a formidable first round opponent for UW-W since 2005.  Still, seeing the Perk so empty for a playoff game was kind of shock to the system.  If you are partial to karma, it was probably a good idea to stay away from that one, especially if you were tempted to dis hunting!  I'm not sure about the whole molting thing, but I think you'll get your wish.  ;)

OK, you guys made me look up the UWW attendance. Wow, actually worse than the 1800 at Mount. Having watched a few minutes of the Albion-Whitewater game on video feed (including the blocked punt/TD), I'm sure the Albion players were glad the UWW faithful went hunting. I have nothing good to say about Albion except they have a lot of guts.

All that being said, this weekend, with no students on campus, can only be worse

Congrats to the Mount players and all others making the ALL-OAC teams and the individual award winners. Congrats also to Trey on the Sherman Award and Mike Hallet as OAC Coach of the Year, well deserved.

Mike Hallett deserves the award. Turning that ship around is impressive! Takes a mighty big rudder to do that. Job offers may just start comming in, and Heidi may have to start all over again. Might Mike end up at Akron U. or KSU some day?   HMMM....do they make rudders THAT big?  Just saying.....

I haven't seen this discussed anywhere yet, and I wanted to bring it up.  I was at the BU/UMU game on Saturday.  Does anyone have any insight into what in the world the BU coaching staff was thinking at the end of the 1st half?

It's not that they threw a pick six, it's the route they took to get there.  The Eagles were just running the ball, huddling, and seemed in no hurry whatsoever to get the play off.  It seemed to me that they were going content to take the 20-7 score to the locker room (personally, I would've taken a shot and tried to score...especially with Mount getting the ball to start the 2nd).  The Eagles inexplicably call a pass with very little time left (under a minute if I recall) and the clock running.  It gets picked, end zone, 27-7.

I just don't understand what the coaches' plan was in that situation.  Either take your shot, try to get 3 or 6 before the half, run a hurry up offense, and see what happens...or keep in on the ground with the outside chance that you can break a big run, and run out the clock...but don't do a combination of the two.  It was baffling.

The other element of BU's gameplan that I didn't understand was substituting every single defensive play based on the personnel Mount brought on the field, regardless of down and distance.  It caused defensive confusion, players running on and off at the last second, and seemed a bit chaotic on the sideline.  I think that's overthinking things and making the already difficult task of stopping the Mount Union offense practically impossible.

Just my two takeaways from Saturday.

KSU's got their guy for the next few years in Darrell Hazell.  Look out for the Flashes in the next few years.  Nearly all of their talent at skill positions is freshmen and sophomores.  They have the makings of a very good team, and are playing very well after a rocky start.

Akron is a total disaster.  Rob Ianello has to know that he'll be packing up his desk after this season, and the AD who hired him is probably going too.  In their last three games they've been outscored an unbelievable 121-16, including a 51-10 beatdown at the hands of Buffalo, a terrible team in their own right.

That might be a good place for a D3 coach to land, should Akron look in the local coaching ranks.  Great facilities, low expectations (win 3 games in the first year and you're a hero), and a solid recruiting area.
