I'd say that a kid with 15 tackles on the year saying things like, "we're going to take over" and that the "all-purple Stagg Bowl" is "over" and "done" and "no more purple dominance," is pretty cocky and sure sounds like a proclamation of victory.  As the others have said, perhaps a more experienced player would have responded with more tact

Cant argue with the point I put in bold. But still i cannot see how it is cocky. He, as well as all of the other players on Wesley, I'd imagine, expect to win this game, not just put out a good showing. Im sure the Mount guys do too of course. You can't win without expecting to win. I dont care if you are the 3rd string punter or the All-American DE. We will see on Saturday how it plays out.  :)

Perhaps the "we're going to take over" was a bit over the top, but nothing really wrong with the rest of it.  Unless you ARE one of the Purples you're pretty tired of the same two teams in the final every year.  Would just be nice to mix it up a bit, but obviously somebody has to be good enough to knock one of you off first.  Hope we are that somebody this year.  BTW, his low number of tackles is due more to the fact that he's only recently taken on more of a role due to Mayes' injury than to his lack of performance.  He still has some learning to do, but he's decent and has the potential to be very good.

I am one the purples, actually THE original purple, and I'm sick of the same two teams.  One team I don't mind.  It's the other that bothers me.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Yeah, I thought you probably resented having to go to Salem all the time.

But aren't you worried about backlash for 'not minding' UWW going?! ;D

Just a hunch, but I think Wesley is falsely believing they are closer to Mount than the really are.  Yes it was 10-7 late, but they're forgetting it was 10-0 after 2 Mount possessions to start the game.  When Rocco went down the offense died which kept them in the game.  If that game is played with a viable QB, it's probably 17-0 or worse at half and a 31-14 final.

This game hinges on whether we have a healthy QB.  Either Seaman or Piloto. Doesn't matter which.  If so, Mount 24 / Wesley 13.  If not, I think it's a toss-up.

Hey Mount guys, is the get together at rey's like last week.  Just making sure I know where I am going when I get into Alliance.  Getting pretty excited about the trip and the game.  I am not sure how close Wesley is or is not to Mount at this point.  All I know is that one team is relativly healthy and the other one is not.  After any 2 offensive plays on Saturday Mount could be forced to play a freshman QB and that is if Seaman really has any chance of playing at all, it may only be 1 play.  This has all the makings of a game just like 2 years ago.  I agree with HScoach, that game could have gotten away, but it didn't because of Rocco being knocked out of the game.  I think Wesley has a chance no matter what, but certainly has a good chance if Piloto and Seaman can't go or are not 100%.  In the end it will come down to whether or not Wesley can score.  It has been posted that Wesley has never scored more than 7 in the semis, if that trend continues they have no shot.  Hopefully, the coaching staff can finally come up with a game plan that gives them the best chance to win.  Pull out all the stops and take chances that they may not normally take, go down with guns blazing.  Looking forward to seeing all you guys tomorrow evening and having a great Mexican breakfast with Skunk, Sidekick, and Jr.  Safe travels to all Wesley fans and any Mount fans that may be also traveling.

Big words from a Wesley defender:

Quote

"I think this is going to be the year where the nation realizes that Wesley's a powerhouse, and we're going to take over," said Phil Cooper, a sophomore defensive end for the Wolverines and a Delcastle graduate.

"That might just be me and my Wesley spirit talking, but a lot of people will see Saturday afternoon that it's done with that all-purple Stagg Bowl. It's over. No more purple dominance. We're going to get some navy blue in there."

I find

to be questionable for his choices.
He must also be a Delcastle graduate.

Neal is taking snaps HOPING he can play.  These days there are tests......scores......"stuff" a player has to pass to do so.

No way to know until all that shakes out.

The sophmore running his mouth would have been expelled by LK.......OH WAIT......we have never HEARD from a sophmore.  Hmmmm.......gee.....that sounds typical for Wesley.  Blah.....blah....blah....please win a semi-final and then you will get all the credit in the world.  A player will not have to say a word.....everyone will say it for you.

Oh......by the way......Piloto is completely fine....good to go.  Wesley has no answer.

We will see Saturday. Ive got a good feeling in my gut for Wesley. I wouldnt say Wesley has no answer. This Wesley team has been tested physically, emotionally, and spiritually all season long. The tougher team in all of these areas will win the game. But one thing is certain: The Wolverines have been tested this year in all of those areas. They beat UMHB in Texas, they scored 42 unanswered points against Linfield and in that second half to come back from being 20 points down(that takes guts), they were able to stop Mickey Inns and make Linfield one-dimensional. They went out and dominated Walsh after Chip Knapp's son had a cardiac arrest on the way to Canton. They beat Salisbury one week removed from that, and still without their OC. They beat D1-FCS Charleston Southern easily.

Im not sure how Saturday will pan out. But do not think Mount Union will get off the hook so easily as they have been. This will be a hard fought game between two excellent teams, regardless of who is playing QB for Mount Union. Mount may have not seen a good a team as Wesley, but they might have too. But I can guarantee that they have not seen a team that has been as "tested" as the Wolverines have been this year. Wesley may have seen a Linfield or UMHB or another team that rivals Mount, or perhaps not. We will know Saturday.

PurpleSuit

Dominated Walsh? There are high school teams in the county that would beat Walsh.  I understand the Wolverines emotional journey.  But using that joke of a program as justification is not a great idea.  I do not doubt Wesley's determination, but Mount is not the same as UMHB or Linfield.

Another team proud about overcoming huge deficits in the playoffs...huh...

Huh?....no, no, no...

I have gained a great deal of respect for Wesley these last couple of weeks, but if anyone thinks Linfield or UMHB or "another team" rivals Mount, they are sadly mistaken.  Linfield and UMHB are very good D3 teams. Mount is entirely different animal. Trust me...

thewaterboy

Using the Walsh game to show that the players were still able to come out and focus through what happened that tragic Thursday night. To be without your OC on the sidelines all of a sudden and that next week of practice is a lot tougher than you may think. Yet through all of that they banded together and overcame a great adversity. That is why I mentioned the walsh game. Not because they are tough to beat. But it showed that there is a Wesley Football Family. And that really separates them from the team that lost to Kean.

And there really is no way to tell how these teams stack up other than their opponents and there aren't that many common ones. That's why we will see saturday.
