Do Giants fans forget about their other stud Hakeen Nicks?  Manningham might be as good a three in the NFL right now.  NY doesn't need Pierre.

Manningham is a free agent and there is a lot of interest from other teams and he wants to be more than the third receiver according to the local papers.

Well, I guess there is nothing wrong with that, although, in all honesty, some of those guys (and please, I'm not talking about PG here as I'm talking in general) should just be glad they have the opportunity to be in the NFL and make the kind of $ they do.  As that old, but truthful saying goes..."how much is not enough"? ;)

Manningham is up for his second contract and he wants to cash in on his late season and post season performance and the Giants don't have the cap space.  Their lack of cap space also means they may not be able to go after PG, but it is fun to imagine Desertraiders head exploding imagining PG in a Giants uniform.   ;D

Gee thanks! I appreciate the sentiment. As mentioned above on the money front - and I am not saying that PG was included in the statement - some of the contract values are obscene. However, I don't think PG is all about that. It would not surprise me if he signed for about the same money he turned down in Indy (5/35mil). He knows, and his agent does too, what his value is (comparable to Stevie Johnson in Buffalo- which is what he was offered). I think PG was waiting on Peyton and taking into account Reggie, Dallas, most of the line, and all the guys and coaches he has played with for the past 4 years have left. I think he just wants out.

Food for thought:

Pierre may want to be careful of expecting Stevie Johnson money.  The Colts would probably make him their number one receiver on a diminished roster.  Stevie Johnson is a number one receiver for another wayward franchise.  If Pierre wants to be "the man" he won't be on a contending team.  So he may have to decide between bigger money that he thinks he's worth (ie. 35 mil over 5 years) or taking a little less and being a number two on a talented team capable of contending.  If Peyton comes to AZ (which I'd welcome), Pierre would be smart to compliment Fitz as a number two guy but he wouldn't get that kind of money mentioned before.

Newcardfan, the Bears just traded 2 number 3 picks to the Dolphins for Brandon Marshall.

ESPN is reporting that PG is signing with the Redskins.

Pierre is signing with the Redskins.  I've heard $8 mil/year thrown out, but haven't confirmed that.

Knightstalker

That is the same amount I heard.

Redskins blog page has it reported at $8mil as well. Good for PG! Plue - the Redskins are not on my "Oh my go my heads gonna explode" list of teams! I don't like them - but I don't dislike them either (kind of like the Colts). A major plus is getting to see PG take it to the Giants, cowboys and Eagles twice a year. Of all the teams in that division - he at least is on the one I can root (quietly) for.

Congrats to P. Garcon and his decision to join the Redskins. I never thought he would stay with the Colts and especially now since they have depleted much of their team to start over. That said, Pierre's 4 years there was good for him and the Colts, so it was time well spent! :)

PG's contract is sick!! He went from under $600k/year to a 5 year deal worth $42.5million with $20million guaranteed and an $11million signing bonus! I am really happy for him - think its great - BUT why did god bless me with massive intellect instead of blazing speed? ;D

Remember that part about being a number one on a mediocre team for big money?  Pierre went that route.  In my opinion he should have stayed in Indy.  I'm happy for Pierre to get paid.  I'm disappointed he will be playing for a disappointing pro team.  Sorry guys, I'm not really loving this move other than Pierre setting himself up financially.

I agree with you RC.  I think he should have stayed at Indy also.  $ isn't everything and a move like this has come back to haunt many players.  Somehow, I don't have a great feeling about this, however, I could be very wrong.  Anyway, I hope it works out for him and I wish him all the best.

I see what you are saying but I don't really agree here. First of all both the Colts and Skins were mediocre last year. Staying in Indy would have meant staying mediocre for LESS money. Now we all know Pierre did not spend $150k on an education at Mount Union to get dumber. If its gonna be mediocre - take the money. Second, if PG stays in Indy he gets Andrew Luck (and as I see ESPN is reporting Reggie Wayne is staying). Colts have no run game (haven't had one since what 05 maybe 06), a medicore oline that is losing their anchors (Saturday and Diem), and a gutted defense (that wasn't that great to begin with). The coaching staff is new (i.e. new system) and the front office is new as well. That is alot to rebuild in 1 offseason.

I know the Skins have some issues (gave up a lot of sacks last year -41, but so did Indy -35) and not much of a rushing game - but all the RBs were rookies. They have RG3 coming in, the oline has a year under the belt as do the RBs. The defense was not bad (gave up 11 fewer TDs than Indy) and they were better on 3rd down (gave up 77 of 206 compared to Indy's 98 of 216).
If you use the gamestats ranking at NFL.com to compare them last year it makes more sense. The Redskin offense was ranked 16th last year and the Colts......30th. Now you figure in that the Colts have dumped everybody from the offense except Reggie Wayne (if ESPN is right) while the Redskins are adding RG3, Pierre and a few other free agents. On the defensive side the Redskin D was ranked 13th last season compared to the Colts ranking of 25th - and the Colts D only have Mathis and maybe Freeney coming back (and don't forget the defense is changing their scheme as well!). I see the Redskins having a greater chance of success in the next 3-5 years compared to Indy. Indy will be great again when everything gels - but how long is that gonna take if you have to build an entire franchise from the ground - up? I think the Skins have a more stable team right now than Indy - I know that sounds odd but in this case Indy was the bigger gamble.

how dare Pierre guarantee himself over $20 mil.... but in all seriousness Washington is not a bad spot for him.  Gets to develop with an extremely talented QB (either Luck or RG3) and get out of the mess that is Indy.  Not to mention Pierre has a political/humanitarian aspect as a professional athlete.  Can't think of a better place for that than DC, can't we all just be happy that he didn't sign up to end his career with Cleveland

+K for you on that one!! My buddy wanted him to sign with Cleveland so bad. I kept telling him that the last thing I want to see is PG in Brown and Orange cuz it would mean he was out of the league in 3 years. Of course I was saved by the fact that Cleveland doesn't do the free agent thing (remember: "these guys are free agents for a reason").
