Don't flatter yourself.  I don't remember you; just a gaggle of ugly suits sitting in the stands all season long, crossing their collective fingers and hoping for a trip to Salem, Virginia for a 3-second cutaway at some point during the Stagg Bowl and all the ESPN glory that comes with being put on TV for a couple seconds as Pam Ward eloquently cuts to commercial in the second quarter of the game.

Ah, the glory days indeed.

Walking away from a $130K college education owing about 12% of that cost makes me feel like my dollar did pretty well.  Thanks for your concern.  Of course, comparing OAC football venues is a futile argument because in the end it's all a matter of opinion and I'd hate for you to think I put any weight in yours.  Have a great Wednesday.

New Coach Appointed

http://www.otterbeincardinals.com/news/2012/5/29/FB_0529123325.aspx

Bein_86,
What do you think of the hire. Is it a step in the right direction, or Same ol', Same ol'.

I was wondering the same.  Also, assuming that Loth had a better opportunity contract (i.e. $) as well as the connection to WCSU via his previous assistant coaching stint there and meeting his wife who attended that university, were there any other reasons why he might have left his own alma mater, especially after being from Ohio himself as I understand it?  Just curious as to if you (Bein) or anyone else knows.  Thanks.

Holy run-on sentence batman!!  Are you sure it was a $130K college education?  They even teach us to use sentence structure and punctuation down here in the hollers of Kentucky!!

Actually that run on sentence was Clark Griswold-esque from Christmas Vacation.

Just a few minor critiques: first - the suits are pretty stylish in that Jesper Parnevik/Rickie Fowler type of way. Second - I don't know if "hoping" is the appropriate word. I mean afterall Stagg trips are usually booked long before the ONU game and have become frequent enough to be virtually included in the academic calendar. And third - The terms "eloquent" or "eloquently" and Pam Ward are not allowed to be mentioned in the same sentence (I think it is illegal in several red states). A legal and more correct version could be: "...as Pam Ward eloquently paused from verbally deficating into her mic to cut to commercial..." ;D

Bein_86,

Good move by the Cardinals to promote and keep the program going with a familiar coach, especially this late in the year. Let's see how he does! :)

1)  The "gaggle" of non-polyester Purple Suits never actually "sat in the stands".  At Mount Union, the students have a separate section away from the other fans.  There isn't even a hill covered in band members to deal with.  Its wild that a college with a clue would have an idea of where to put their students.  Maybe ONU could shove everyone into that one side, could all 300 fans fit? Maybe $130K could solve that equation
2) Crossing our fingers to hope to get to Salem has been covered, thanks desertraider.  And yes, the 2012 Stagg Bowl trip is a few weeks from being booked. Provided Mount can get by D3's strongest 4th place conference finisher.
3) Isn't Pam Ward the ONU of ESPN College Football?
4) Congrats on being a pharmacist, I hope you're a pharmacist.  Happy Friday friend!
5)  You'll always have 2005.  Maybe you can "cross your fingers" and "hope" for a rain storm during MUC week so your alma mater can keep it close.  6-4/7-3 glory days indeed.

As much as I am enjoying this back-and-forth between PurpleSuit and realitycheck (which I really am), I'd like to move the conversation along. I heard a rumor that numbers are looking to be way down for the Purple Raiders this year between graduation, injuries, and players quitting. Can anyone with more info/insight confirm or deny?

pradierguy,

I had a meeting at Mount a week ago and one of my sources did not indicate that the numbers are down very much. What I did hear the Coach Kehres has some top recruits that he is being quiet about. As far as the QB situation, it appears that M. Piloto will not be the leading candidate for the starter, and a new face is more likely. :)

Namdar is the favorite.  Seaman will start, but Namdar will be the qb by the monumental ONU game, imo.

I like to see teams promote from within but it doesn't bring anything new to the fold. I wonder if Bein would benefit from new blood. They have had some decent teams recently but they seem to fall apart. I wish them the best of luck.

Given the timing did they have much choice?

That's right - the change has been made. Success has been so nonexistent at good ol'hiram that one forgets when it last happened. As far as Bein is concerned I do think timing played into the decision which in no way takes away from the new HCs qualifications. But it makes you (well at least me) wonder if they would have made the same call if they had more time.
