BTW: We need a name for the Semis with UMHB. If a Mount guy mentions "The Game" we all know what game. We need something better than 'The turnover laden, offensively disappointing, defensively dominating, last minute heart pounding Mount semifinal victory against UMHB in 2012'. Suggestions?

This one seems obvious...The Comeback

How often does Mount get to celebrate a really close fought victory, much less one where they had to overcome 5 TO's and several 2nd half/4th quarter deficits??

My point about St Johns is their fans show up and have to travel a decent distance to get there because Collegeville is out in the middle of nowhere. Their away games are  usually in the Twin Cities and they out draw most of the home teams they play

...

And as always .......The Tommies continue to SUCK! ;)

They do ?!? Maybe at Hamline and Carleton (but what MIAC team doesn't bring more fans for a game at Carleton or Hamline??). But when they play teams like Bethel, St. Olaf, UST or Concordia on the road they aren't the majority of the fans. They do 'travel' well. But keep in mind a ton of their alumni live in the Twin Cities, where an SJU 'away' game is actually closer to the front door. Not to take anything away from the SJU fan support (they bring in big numbers, no one can argue that), but they aren't outdrawing most home teams on the road. And many SJU fans take issue with the lack of 'vocal' support from the crowd. I think several SJU posters have maligned the complacency of the masses in Collegeville.

And yes, Tommies do SUCK. But Johnnies also BLOW  8-) ;D

Too obvious. The name just does'nt fit the epic nature of the game.  8-) Dick Ross could have come up with a name. I miss reading his Mount game stories.

I would like to post a simple Roman numeral equation.
This shouldn't be too hard to understand.   Consider it a prediction for Friday night.

Thanks sfury, excellent article!

I do too! I used to get them on the old Mount Union Alumni email discussion list. Besides a review of the game, I always looked forward to his description of the drive to away games, the history of the opponent's school, the stadium, etc., along with sights and smells. He certainly had an elegant way with words!

Sfury...beautiful writing, loved it. The 1993 game was played in the swamp Mount Union's field became every year at that time, having borne 11 games, some in the rain. I always marveled how good The Great Jim Ballard was in bad weather. Always said he was the best bad weather QB ever. Browns missed the boat on him. He played great in sub-zero weather(WLaX),swamp(MUC many times), and blasting wind and freezing rain in the '93 Stagg.

Yep. The descriptions of the day were my favorite as well. I remember reading one about John Carroll and he didn't even mention the game til halfway down the page. The cool, crisp air - the colors of the leaves - the crowd - it was like being there. Even though I was reading it from Miami, FL.

One benefit of how the game played out Saturday for Mount is that maybe this will fire LK up to staying on foe a bit longer.

If Mount wins the Stagg Bowl this year, do you think LK will, in fact, stay on?  I realize there will be speculation either way, however, just curious as to your and other's own opinions on this and/or what you may have heard via the "rumor mill" or other un-named :o ::) ;) sources.

Don't know if this means nothing or a lot, but the officiating crew for the Stagg is a WIAC crew (the referee is in the same officials assoc as I am).  An honor for him and his crew.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!
