Attended, graduated and been to all Mount games since 1973, have never heard the Hiram story.  THAT is unbelievable and a classic to be laughed about.  How history may have changed...Can you imagine Hiram with a few national championships?
BTW, I see the Wooster coach stepped down, Maybe the next guy will have some stones and schedule Mount.  It was always a great rivalry.
Just getting ready to hit I-77 south, GO RAIDERS and safe travels to all.

Come now, they're too busy "focusing on academics" in the NCAC (read: getting their teeth kicked in) to schedule Mount.

Raider 68

Its game day, from the early part of the season, I felt that this Raider team would not only
get to the Stagg Bowl, but bring back the 11th Title. It has been a great year for the coaches, team
and all the fans, alums and supporters. The seniors started a very long time ago to prepare for this opportunity.
The stats are off the charts, but more importantly is the heart of this team and showed
big last Saturday against UMHB. Good things come to those who dedicate themselves to a goal! :)

GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
13 time Division III National Champions

Minnesotans have faced unstoppable machines before.

Great moments are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here, tonight. One game. If we played 'em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we [play] with 'em. Tonight, we stay with 'em, and we shut them down because we can! Tonight, we are the greatest [Division III football] team in the world. You were b
orn to be [Division III football] players -- every one of ya. And you were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time -- is done. It's over. I'm sick and tired of hearin' about what a great [Division III football] team [Mount Union] has. Screw 'em!

This is your time!!

Now go out there and take it!

GO GET A CHAMPIONSHIP TOMMIES!

DoubleO

Wanted to wish the Raiders well tonight. I'm hoping both teams get each others best, stay healthy and that the better team wins. Roll Tommies, Roll!

muc-raider

Tonight we see the new math:    XL = XI         I'll interpret:    XL  40th Stagg Bowl     XI   number 11 for Mount Union

I'll be danged if MU didn't win the NAIA Championship too!

As a former NAIA guy, what were your thoughts of the game (assuming you watched)? I wasn't overly impressed. Felt like multiple D3 teams could have won that game outside of our Stagg teams (UWO, Linfield, UMHB, Wesley, Hobart even...)

I don't know if it was reported yet on this board that a Wisconsin officiating crew is selected to work today's Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.

GOOD LUCK RAIDERS!

Craft_Beermeister

From  College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin  web site they recently posted the following:

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The NCAA recently selected a crew from the Midwest Football Officials' Alliance – Division III (MFOA-DIII), who officiate College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) football contests, to work the NCAA DIII Football Championship on Friday night between St. Thomas and Mount Union.

MFOA-DIII oversees all football officiating operations for four conferences including the CCIW, Midwest Conference (MWC), Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). Bill Carollo serves as the organization's Coordinator of Officials and is joined by Tom Fiedler and Jim Lapetina as Assistant Coordinators for the MFOA-DIII.

Friday's night's crew includes referee Pat Miles, Dan Montgomery (umpire), Charlie Bloedorn (head linesman), Steve Liddell (line judge), Terry VerStraate (side judge), Mark Porter (field judge) and Ryan Gannon (back judge).

In addition to Friday night, MFOA-DIII crews also worked three first round games, two second round games and a semi-final contest.

The MFOA-DIII is the first of its kind at the NCAA Division III level. The organization expands the education, evaluation and recruitment of officials as well as expands the pool of officials to provide greater flexibility among the four conferences. Over 150 football contests are conducted within the four participating conferences every fall, which accounts for over 1,000 officials' assignments.

"I think it speaks volumes to the caliber of officials when, after just two years, MFOA is officiating the Division III national championship game," CCIW commissioner Chris Martin said. "The CCIW is proud of the organization's work and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the MFOA."

Friday night's game between St. Thomas and Mount Union will kick off at 7 p.m. in Salem, Virginia. Fans can watch the broadcast on ESPNU.

^  Thanks for the links.

Sidekick, SaintsFAN, etc:   Sorry you guys can't make it.  I was in your shoes last year with work, but heading out by 8:00, assuming I can drag my 2 teenagers out of bed.  Safe travels to all.

GO MOUNT!

We'll be there next year in Salem (Mrs. SF said to make it happen)... mostly because she wants me to experience a Stagg Bowl in person and partly because skunkssidekick, raiderguy, skunk and HScoach were so friendly and nice.  I've already told formerd3db (who was responsible for scraping me off the field during my senior year in Michigan) as we've been talking about meeting down there (under better circumstances) for years.

Who knows who will be in the game next year -- though I think UMU has a pretty good shot with Burke at QB.

skunkssidekick -- my offer stands if you want to bring Junior down to the Cincy area to look at schools.  Hope we extinguished the UC flame, there was another robbery of a UC student that made the papers here this week.  The neighborhood UC is in is the main reason they can't get people to attend the football/basketball games.

Agreed.  And they have a former Mount guy as their QB/Offensive Coordinator, which seals the deal for me.  OK, so its Mount St Joe.. but I remember the kid, he couldn't hit the ocean from the beach when I saw him play ;)

Good things come to those who dedicate themselves to a goal! :)

We dedicated ourselves to a goal of the National Title in 1999 (my senior year)... we only won 7 games that year.

Can I get a do over? :)

Hiram . . . . .  turned . . . . . . down . . . . . . Larry . . . . . . . Kehres.

I'm going to have to write this on a blackboard 500 times until I can get my mind around it.

I am sending this to the Hiram Alumni Associationand President Chema! I will have to inform them that I was wrong when I wrote to them indicating my dissatisfaction with Hiram and the decisions being made the past 10 years. Apparently they have been making bone headed, asinine decisions since the 80s! Idiots!

This is the equivalent to the (then a minor league team) Baltimore Orioles offering to sell a baseball player to the Philadelphia Athletics, who turned them down. He was then offered to the Cincinnati Reds, who also declined. George Herman Ruth was finally picked up by the Boston Red Sox. Of course, later Boston blew it too. Would Philly/Cinci/Hiram have had different results had they taken the chance when the opportunity presented itself?
