Ric,

Any chance you can place the audio of the UMHB and Stagg Bowl games on the Internet? I think there would be a few who would love to hear your call of both.

Craig Candeto is the new HC in Bexley.  Credit to Cap, they went outside the box on this hire.  I like it.  Although I'm not sure JK will like seeing a Midshipman in charge!

Cbus Dispatch

I will be very interested to see what offense Capital runs in week 1 next year.  Their opponent in Bexley is the Thomas More Saints.

That was my first thought as well, SF.  Wonder if we'll see the option?  I'm not sure what they run at the Citadel.

Been years since I posted, but the new hire at my alma mater brought me back out of the woodwork.

At The Citadel they run the triple option.  Not sure of the exact coaching lineage, but I think the offensive coordinator was with Paul Johnson at Georgia Southern, Navy and Georgia Tech.

So it would stand to reason that Paul Johnson's QB at Navy, and a guy who coached with Johnson at Georgia Tech, and then at The Citadel, which runs the same offense it would stand to reason that Candeto is bringing the triple option to the OAC.

Does Capital have the QBs and OL to run it?  Last Capital game I saw was a playoff game, so I don't know.

With so many teams moving to some variation of the spread I think it'd be cool if Cap ran the triple option.  And I'd have to think that it would be no picnic for their opponents to prepare for since you see it less and less these days.

Additionally, I read on the CCIW board some time ago something to the effect of Augustana leveraged that offense in recruiting by targeting guys who ran it in HS because there were so few teams running the option in college so they almost had a built in recruiting pool.  Well, if there was any truth to that there are even less teams running it now I'm sure (but also less at the HS level too).  With Wakefield going back to Perry maybe he'll bring back the wing-t and Candeto can befriend him.  Haha.

eh -- you see the triple option still.. just in a different form.  Mount ran a version of it.. so does RGIII.  Its still assignment football.  Thats my opinoin.

How long has it been since the OAC has had a team running the old-fashioned triple option??

Teams are starting to call it the Spread Option.  When I see the spread option, I see the veer with the tight end split out to spread out the D some.  But that is my ignorant opinion.  I am waiting for someone to bring back the Monster Stack defense while running the option.   :D

There are alot of elements of the triple option in many of the spread running attacks that we see in HS, College and trickling into the NFL.  But a true triple option, such that I expect to see in Bexley, such that is run at Navy, Ga. Southern, Citadel, Ga Tech, etc. is a different beast than the occasional option run out of spread attacks.  What Georgia Tech does is vastly different from what Oregon, Clemson, etc do, although some of the elements of triple option are evident in both.

Because I'm stuck at the office I do stuff like....look at the All Sports standings for no real reason.

ONU and UMU are tied for 1st at 23.0 each after the fall season.  Last year ONU was up by 0.5 points after fall so essentially the same place.  The Raiders made up the ground largely in baseball (+5.5) to win it by less than 2 pts last year.  An incremental improvement in hoops (7th last yr) would be a help for us.  If Mount could hop up to even 5th place it'd be big.  Baseball should do well again and track is always good so the winter sports may be the difference this year.

Cleveland Browns just hired 1999 Mount Union grad Brent Stehik as their executive vice president, chief revenue officer.

I found this bio on Brent

* Brent Stehlik enters his third season with the Padres, his first in the role of senior vice president, business operations. Stehlik joined the Padres as senior vice president, ballpark operations in May 2010, and was promoted to his current role in October 2011. He oversees all aspects of revenue generation and marketing including ticket sales and operations, corporate sponsorships, concessions and merchandising, sales and booking of non-baseball events, revenue-generating capital projects, entertainment, marketing and creative services.

* Stehlik reduced ballpark operating costs by more than $2M per year and served as the lead negotiator on contracts with outsourced building partners. In addition, Stehlik oversaw the expansion of the Padres' non-baseball events department, which led to a net profit increase of more than 120 percent and a gross profit increase of nearly 60 percent from 2010 to 2011, marking the highest profit margin since the opening of Petco Park.

* Under Stehlik's leadership, the Padres in 2010 and 2011 increased annual attendance in back-to-back seasons (not following a strike) for the first time since 1988-89. In addition, the club achieved the first year-over-year increase in season ticket base in the history of PETCO Park in 2010, and did it again in 2011. New season ticket sales increased seven-fold from 2009 to 2010 and increased by another 45 percent from 2010 to 2011.

* Prior to joining the Padres, Stehlik was director of business development for the National Football League's Dallas Cowboys, where he was involved in the overall ticket strategy and several key projects, including the creation of the group sales department. In addition, he focused on increasing revenues across all of the Cowboys and Legends platforms.

* Stehlik has held additional roles as vice president, ticket sales and service for the Arizona Diamondbacks, chief operating officer of the Frisco RoughRiders (MiLB) and director of group sales for the Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL).

* Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Stehlik graduated from the University of Mount Union in 1999, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sport business and a double minor in business administration and computer information systems. He and his wife, Molly, have a daughter, Sophie, and two sons, Boone and Griffin.

It sounds like he worked with Alec Scheiner while with the Cowboys.  Scheiner was hired a Browns President on Dec 18th.

Also, just as an FYI, in regards to the Cleveland Browns, some people may not know that the current GM Tom Heckert (who, from media reports i.e. sources? say will be fired after the final game today along with the HC) was formerly the head coach at Adrian College for several years in the 1980's before he left for Cleveland.

It was actually Tom Heckert's dad Tom Heckert SR. that was head coach at Adrian College from 1973 to 1981.  Tom Jr. used to watch films of players as a youth and eventually started reviewing players and writing reports for his dad.  Tom Sr. was a scout for the Browns from 1982 to 1986 before ending up as a a personnel executive with the Miami Dolphins from 1989 until his retirement in 2007.

Tom Heckert Jr. went on to play quarterback at Adrian High School and safety at Hillsdale College. He then coached at Hillsdale for two years and eventually applied to become a graduate assistant at Michigan State and Arizona State.  While he was waiting to hear from the universities, his mother, Rose, presented an idea to his father, who was working in the Dolphins' personnel department at the time. She wanted her son to help the Dolphins prepare for the 1991 NFL Draft.

When asked, coach Don Shula approved. Tom Heckert Jr. worked for the Dolphins as an unpaid intern for about five months, and his big break occurred in a meeting before the draft when Tom Jr. spoke up when Shula asked his dad who was the best corner in the draft.  Sula was impressed and after the draft hired Tom Jr.

I think Tom Heckert is a good GM and I hate to see the Brown's drive him out.

Mr. Ypsi you are correct except from what I read Tom Jr. was born in Youngstown, OH in 1967 but his family moved not long after he was born to the Toledo Ohio area when Tom Sr. was hired to coach football at Maumee High School near Toledo. A few years later, the elder Heckert received a job at Adrian College, where he eventually served as head coach from 1973 to 1981.
