For me (and this isn't an OAC comment) but a Defiance team that gave up 292 points in 10 games this year has three kids on the 3rd team defense?

Looks like Collins is out of the gate strong at the East West Shrine practices.

Best WR either practice Jasper Collins of Mount Union. Usually a small school guy could take a while to get going, he was batteries included

*WR Jasper Collins of Mount Union on the West squad looks like the best wide receiver here, thus far. I took a good look at his work at Mount Union prior to coming to practices, mainly because of the success of both Pierre Garcon and Cecil Shorts out of the same school. On tape there was definitely a "here we go again" feel as he clearly is fast and can get open deep, but also has bevy of receiving skills that look attractive at the next level. Usually small school guys can feel a little bit overwhelmed the first couple of days of an All Star practice week, making mistakes trying to get everything perfect. This guy was good out of the box, batteries included. His balance and feet running sluggos and other double moves were fantastic and the speed showed. He also showed the ability to track the deep ball, run under it, and get it over his shoulder.

Even more Jasper news...

"Another of the top performers on the West squad was Mount Union wide receiver Jasper Collins. The speedy wideout was challenging receivers with his quickness and route-running. He burned a bunch of cornerbacks downfield and was consistently getting separation. Collins torched UCLA cornerback Aaron Hester and Nevada's Khalid Wooten on go routes. The tall corner Hester struggled to turn and run with Collins.

Collins (5-11, 190) is in the mold of other Mount Union prospects Pierre Garcon and Cecil Shorts. A lot of scouts were impressed by Collins on Monday."

Just think how bad Defiance would have been without those 3 studs ::)
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

"Pretty good battle between two Ohio guys today: Mount Union WR J. Collins vs Ohio St CB T. Howard. So far, edge to the d3 prospect"

I just don't get it.  Espinosa had a nice year and OWU was a great story, but is that serious?  You're taking him over the nation's #1 rated passer who also just so happened to win a national title (and the Stagg Bowl MVP).  Interesting choice to say the least.  Not exactly a good way to establish credibility.

And while I think Fairchild is an absolute stud you just cannot put him on the 1st team due to the injuries.  It's certainly not his fault he was banged up, but you have to reward the kids that played and put up numbers.  I would flip flop him and the Witjes (sp?) kid from Oberlin probably.

Clearly I am an OWU guy, but I still agree with you. I was surprised when this came out. While I am happy for Mason, I cannot see how they chose him over Burke. Sometimes I think these type of publications go out of there way to do this type of thing so they don't look like they are favoring UMU too much. It is still wrong. I am not sure that Burke winning the National Championship should necessarily come into play though. He had more weapons than Mason and probably a better line in front of him. But the fact is Burke was still the number one rated passer.

This is why I've learned to filter out all of the post season awards lists that come from places I don't hear about until they decide to publish a best-of list.  There's one group of people who follow the division close enough to put together credible postseason All-whatever teams.  The rest is just noise.

Wally,

I agree! At the end of the day Kevin Burke, led his team as the #1 rated passer and the National Championship. That is all that matters. How many selection teams have we seen where the best players are not recognized. ::)
