A lot of fun talk but Mount will still be led by the QB that humbled Braxton Miller in the Ohio High School Championships

I didn't realize that all those passes Kyle Miller caught at Mount were just a figment of my imagination until I read this article.

Kyle Miller could also see his role on the team increase. In college, Miller served primarily as a long snapper, so making the adjustment to NFL tight end is taking its time. He spent the 2012 preseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts, then started the season on the Colts practice squad before making one appearance. When the Colts waived him after the game, intending to put him back on the practice squad, Miami claimed him, keeping him on the roster as the fourth tight end. This year, he has had a good training camp, but is injured right now, and did not play in the game Saturday. Miller is not going to be the replacement to Keller by himself, but he could be a part of the answer.

I noticed they had at least a couple more All-Ohio kids that won state titles on the freshman roster in OL Joe DeCapita (Mooney) and WR Jordan Hargrove (SVSM).  Never a bad thing to snag good players from championship programs.

Did Burke play defense in HS?

No, he played on a high school team (Lakewood St. Edward) that would rival some small college programs. While he did win the state championship over Braxton Miller's team (Huber Heights Wayne HS in Dayton), he had a much better supporting cast.

Pittsburgh bars should keep him out of their bathrooms as a precaution, given his...tendencies.

Are there any Otterbein posters out there with a snapshot of what the team will look like this year? I am relatively unfamiliar with the OAC outside of Mount Union, so any help would be appreciated. Looking forward to the first game of the year!

Maybe this will answer some questions.  http://www.oac.org/sports/fball/2013-14/videos/Otterbein_Mixdown

Funny you should ask that, because I was just thinking there seems to be very few fans from the other schools in the OAC on this board other than Mount Union fans. I’m surprised there aren’t more fans from some of the schools who have a recent history of finishing near the top of the league, especially B-W, John Carroll, Ohio Northern and Otterbein.

But back to your original question about Otterbein. I don’t really know a whole lot about them other than they were very good last year and it sounds like they will be good again this year too. Last year there was a lot of talk about their QB and WR’s. I’m pretty sure their QB is back as well as some of their WR’s.

On a side note, my wife is from Rochester and a few years ago we were in town for Thanksgiving. Fisher just so happen to be hosting a playoff game that weekend against Union. I convinced my father-in-law to go to the game with me and he kept asking me “is this that Union team you played against?”… LOL… he drove me crazy the whole game! He even started telling people around us that I played at Heidelberg and that Heidelberg was in the same conference as Union. They just looked at us with a puzzled look on their faces ...LOL ... I don't know how many times I told him it wasn't the same team, and I don't even think he was drinking that day...LOL.  It was a good game thought, if I remember correctly the game got pretty exciting near the end and Fisher won. Nice stadium and campus they have. And good student support too.

While I appreciate mentioning JCU in this list...the last time JCU was even relevant in the OAC conversation was 2005, I was a college junior, Rocky Pentello was just shy of being eligible for AARP, the team made a run for a few weeks after getting drilled 70-0 against Mount....eight years ago.  The last time JCU really finished near the top of the league was 2002, over a decade ago.  With the exception of 2005, the post Tom Arth era has largely hovered around .500.

Last night I was listening to a NFL segment on ESPN and they were discussing players they felt would have a "breakout year."  Anyway when it came to receivers one of the commentators included Cecil Shorts in the two that he had been asked to identify.

Had to post a video of a professional athlete doing GOOD - instead of the crap the national media (yes ESPN that is directed at you) focuses on. Would like to see more of these getting coverage.

Nice to see Pierre understands that being a good man - is just as important (if not more) as being a good athlete.

On the Cecil front (and I guess still on the Pierre front as well):

When was the last time Mount didn't get 9 first place votes in the coaches poll? Anyone know? Just curious.

2008, Cap and ONU each had a 1st place vote.  Mount beat them 49-7 and 44-7 on the way to title #10.

Ouch! However, I will be surprised if there is a similar result this year.  Fear the Prince!

Before I type this I must say - I am GLAD to see Berg fans excited for the season. You should be - it has been a LONG time coming. However - if Mount beats Berg 70-0 it won't suprise me, AND if Mount beats Berg 49-48 in quintupple overtime it won't suprise me. Nothing Mount does suprises me anymore - except when Mount fails to win. Notice I said "fails to win" and not "loses". After 20+ years and numbers never before seen in football (AT ANY LEVEL) I choose to believe that Mount will win every game, and when they don't it was because Mount failed to do something (execute, control TO's, etc.), not because the other team beat them. Just the way I see it. I think Berg will have a great year. I think Berg will go 9-1. But I also think Mount (and more importantly VK) will be on a mission to show that while LK was a great coach (the greatest IMHO) - the dynasty was more than LK and doesn't stop now that he is gone. I see Mount beating Berg 45-10. Not a knock on Berg at all - I just think Mount is going to be driven to show "WE ARE STILL THE MACHINE".

There's that Mount arrogance we came to know and love over the years. It's been awhile since I've seen it. (although, I admittedly haven't spent much time on the boards in the off-season).  I guess when a team wins 2 of the last 6 National Championships it gets to be pretty heady stuff.  ;)

I don't see it as arrogance. Arrogance would be "why are you all even showing up to the games since GOD himself has ruled Mount will win by 6000....". All I was saying is that I, and we (as in all D3 football fans), have seen Mount re-define "reload" for the past 20+ years and as  a result Mount is expected to win everygame (you read non-Mount fans commenting on this all the time). In addition - you choose to see it as "2 of the last 6" and that is true - but in reality it is 11 of the last 20 (maybe a hint of arrogance). I guess it is a matter of perspective  ;D

Besides, my post on July 24 re: TITAN was WAAAAAAY more arrogant, and yet stated only facts. Enjoy  :o
