I'm anxious to hear HScoach's thoughts, especially on the O line.

I watched the whole thing too and was less than impressed.   Especially the O-line.    Minnich had no room to run and Woods made his own yards.   Pass protection was adequate, but when factoring in it was against W&J who has NEVER been  strong up front, was not happy.

Then factor in their best D-lineman playing LT on offense and you have the makings of a very questionable O-line for 2013.

My early prediction for Week 1 is a much tougher game than anyone in A-town is ready for.

HScoach – would you mind posting this on the "North Region Fan Poll" board?

A few weeks ago I kindly stated to those voters that I was surprised that they all voted Mount Union #1 in their preseason poll, especially with all the changes Mount was going to have to work through this year.

You wouldn't believe some of the remarks that were cast at me... you would have thought I had suggested that Heidelberg should be ranked #1.... Oh wait, I did!  ;)

Where in my post did I say Mount isn't going to be good?   Your orange colored glasses are making you read things that aren't there.

Sorry about that HScoach. I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying you were concerned with the OL. I was just joking around anyways, I didn't really expect you to post that on the "North Region Fan Poll".

But you are right. I do have orange colored glasses on...Big Time. Glad the season is finally upon us.

Pat – Thank you for everything you do for Division 3 athletics. You have done more for D3 with these sites than anyone else. Most Heidelberg fans appreciate what you do and the exposure you and your staff have brought to us in the last couple of years. I personally enjoy the pod cast you and Keith do during the season and I'm amazed by what you are able to put together with "Kickoff". I'm looking forward to your D3 reports, reading your columns and everything else you bring us during the season. Keep up the good work!

For those -- like me -- who tend to make the Pick-Em selections on Saturday morning, I forgot to mention that there are some Friday night games on the Pick-Em this week.

Good luck!

I am concerned about the O-line.  Bigtime concerned.   But that will not stop them from being very good.   Too much talent elsewhere.

You also need to factor in the different perspective at Mount where anything less than dominant is a little disheartening.    They'll be good.  Really good.   Only time will tell if it's #12 good though.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Game notes for Franklin went up a couple days ago:  Franklin at Mount

Couple quick notes from skimming the 2 deep...

Fechko is listed as the starter at both LT and DT.  Based on the scrimmage I'd think that Durum Alarms (listed as his backup at DT) will see a lot of action.  With Bridges listed as a backup DE I'm sure we'll see rotating at D line as usual.  Lally has moved inside to DT this year.  No surprise once we knew he had bulked up to 260.

Looks like Jones and Chambers are the starting CB.  Again based on the scrimmage I'd think Fowler is the 3rd CB if needed.

Both starters and backups at LB are sophs.  I thought Trevor Smith looked good at LB.  He was flying around with a lot of energy.

Not a single freshman on the 2 deep.  Not really stunning for week 1, but I thought we may see one of the WR or possibly Deerr on defense.

Nicholls, who I didn't see at all in the scrimmage, is starting at WR along with Namdar, Wilkinson and Meacham.  TE Lane Clark is listed as a backup WR since there are no TE's listed separately this week.

Woods is listed as the starter at RB.  I'm anxious to see how he (and moreso the OL) does against a Griz D that returns basically everyone from a unit that allowed 2.6 ypc last year.

I'm excited it's finally a game week!  4 more days and we have football again, gentlemen!

skunks_sidekick

Well hello all my little internet friends!  ;D

It's football season, and I am sure hoping for a better weekend this week compared to this past week.  Jr.'s team looked less than stellar (understatement of the year) in their season opener, so I am hoping for a win at Louisville this week, and a Mount victory on Saturday.  Skunk & I will be over to see the 2013 Purple Raider experience kick-off with VK leading the helm.

We will be at our usual pregame spot at Pancho's around noonish if anyone is interested in stopping by.

No TE or FB on the Depth Chart.  Instead they list Four WR positions.  First time in recent memory that I've seen that.

I'm coming up from Columbus for the game on my way to Cleveland for CWRU's game.

Is the buffet as good as you guys say, or is Pancho's worth a try?

It has been a few years since I had the buffet but it was as good as advertised.

According to newspaper, Namdar charged with assault and obstruction...apparently , he was attempting to intervene at a house party and assaulted a female..that is all I could ascertain from the little that I saw on website.
Kid is lined up for a shot at a career year and gets off to a very poor start.  Guilty or not, wrong place, wrong time,.  People are tired of seeing athletes in news for bad behavior...Puts a first year head coach in a bad spot.
