Just like Joe Theisman's -7 yard punt years ago.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

Mount Union had 664 Yards of Offense.

Brooks ended up with 68 Yards on 28 attempts for 2.6 YPC.

Raiders prevail at Heidi! Great game - at least from the video feed - Raider D was AWESOME! Yes I said AWESOME. I don't care much for all the passing yards - but they stopped the run! Cartel Brooks is a stud, no doubt about it, but he was kept to 68 yards on 26 carries - and that is misleading since he had a carry for 17 and 1 for 14. The D shut him down. Great job.

Wow, very good game.  Mount won this game with the Offense.  I do not think the second team def. would have done better.  Big win none the less for Mount.  Give the berg credit, they were excellent on offense.  The key was  brooks 26 carries for 68 yds.  give the def. cerdit for that.  the pass def. was very exposed today.  the pass rush was held in check also.  burke was outstanding and b.j. is the no.1 back.  the punter may need to be replaced, unless it's a  fake.  the k.o team was really hurting today also.  i really struggled with not going for it 4 and 3 at the 38 of the berg.  game over if you make it and maybe 15 -20 yds to lose if he kicks it into end zone.  a minus 9 yds. punt did not help that choice.  improvements must still be made, and the ride back home will be much better with this win.  Finally one of our captains made what h.s. coach said was dumb penalty, lead by example.  that was beyond dumb in my book, i'll stop there.

I agree that Cartel's numbers were greatly impacted by getting 40 yards on 3 of his carries in the 4th quarter. Cartel got 3 yards on the the other 3 carries in the 4th quarter.  If my maths right i had Brooks at 38 yards on 19 carries entering the 4th quarter.  Great job by Mount defense shutting down Brooks.

I'm still looking in the rule book for the definition of the "shovel fumble". QB pushes (throws) the ball forward to an eligible receiver but wait...... that is a shovel pass. I learned something new from the illustrious OAC officials today. That was absolutely pitiful, glad it didn't impact the outcome of the game.

It was great game by both teams. The Berg continues their rise to be a perennial OAC title and playoff contender. Nice job by the UMU rush defense but way too much blown coverage in the secondary. We better get that fixed quick before the JCU passing attack comes to Alliance.

OK - I missed 3 things today (at least). 1. The fake punt - I decided it was a good time to refill my coffee. 2. The (-7) yard punt - seriously can somebody explain what happened here? And 3. The penalty referenced above (the dumb one). Oh well at least I was dry. Safe returns to all-

I also can't understand why Mount punted when they were at the 35 and it was 4th and maybe a yard and a half.  Berg just used its 3rd and final timeout.

the heidelberg announcers during the time out said mount was robbed, that it was a shuffle pass, not a fumble.  also if it was a fumble, the ground can not cause a fumble, or is that in pros only  this was said when they thought their mikes were down.

Great win today, solid test by The Berg, glad to come away with the W. I thought the announcers on the feed did fine, and the color guy seemed surprised by the missed call on the shovel. The shanked punt was just plain ugly and I thought the decision for Heidelberg to fake the FG was a poor one, take the points and who knows what happens down the stretch. Best of luck to both teams the next few weeks, November football is going to be fun.

I believe the Berg announcers are actually the local radio guys.  The Berg picks up the radio broadcast and feeds it with the video.  They do a good job, but I'd rather hear Ric and Mark.

The game lived up to its billing.  Heidelberg is good and should do better in the playoffs this year IF they get by John Carroll next week, and that is a big if.  JC has given up only 26 points the entire season.

Didn't think it would happen this way, but Berg lost cause they were out coached. 10 point difference was 7 from not being ready for fake punt and 3 they gave up faking field goal. Also should have known Mount would go all out to stop Brooks and passing game would have big opportunities.

for those who want to watch all or parts of the Heidelberg game here is link   http://athletics.heidelberg.edu/ban    the berg actually did a good job on the fake punt. they had players at the point of the run.  ed ran it very well and one heidelberg player had him and just missed tripping him up.  a lot of good blocking on the play.

I watched via the feed (which was awesome by the way. Mount should take some notes!) and have a few thoughts:

- VK did a great job. I thought the gameplan was great and he pushed the right buttons at the right times

- Burke is amazing. He took an absolute beating and will feel it tomorrow. For a Mount Union team, it is a "no name" offense, but Burke elevates everyone around him. Needs more protection from that O-Line though!

- Pass D is a concern with JCU ahead on the schedule. I know Brooks was was the focal point of the defensive gameplan, but there are some glaring holes.

- Not a surprise, but Heidi is legit and have all the makings of a playoff team. Still don't get the fake FG though?

Today's game was an OAC showcase and my hat is off to both teams!
