Glad to see Mount's running game coming around.

Anyone else notice that Bradley Mitchell is now on pace to smash Nate Kmic's all-time, all-division career rushing record?   ;o)

Re: the discussion of OAC officials and other leagues, two comments. The first is that officiating a game is harder than it looks and it's a pretty thankless job. Especially in D3 without the benefit of replay, I can live with it when they get a judgement call wrong on a bang-bang play. If the guy was out by an inch and they called it a catch, that's a call very difficult to make and I'm not going to hold it against them, especially since my team didn't actually MAKE the stop on such a hypothetical play. I'm even OK with discrepancies in penalties called on one team vs another because, let's face it, sometimes one team just does commit more penalties than the other.

Where I feel it is fair to complain about officials is problems with not knowing the rules, like the "shovel fumble" described above. Admittedly I did not see the play in question but I know enough football to know there is no such thing. It's fair to criticize the refs for making outright nonsense calls.

Check 2:07:00 into this video http://athletics.heidelberg.edu/ban for the Shovel/Fumble.

After watching the play again, to me it appears that the Umpire was staring at Burke the entire play...

It definitely does look like the umpire has a clear view of it.  The thing that irked me when I watched it before and still does just now is that this isn't a case of was his knee down before the ball got stripped or something. That I understand. Without replay that's such a tough call if it's close. But in this case the kid shovel passes, arm fully extended away from his body as he flips it. It's clear as can be.  Yes, he was slipping but that motion is clear.  The fact that the entire crew missed that is terrible.

Totally agree, Dr. Acula.  No doubt about it.  There's no excuse for calling that a fumble.

Kira & Jaxon's Dad, thanks for posting the video.  Of course, now this means I'm gonna put this on in the background at work, listen to the radio broadcast, and click over to watch the video when it sounds like something big is happening :)

Before I put the spreads out tonight, anyone want to chime in on their opinion of what the HEI-JCU delta should be?   ???

It looks like he might have actually been down before he released the ball.  But I am watching on my laptop and the resolution is good but not that good to really tell.  If he was not down that sure looked like a shovel pass to me.

WOW! I thought it was a bad call - however it is worse than that. The NCAA and OAC need to make sure these guys NEVER make that mistake again and they should be banned from postseason games. I know mistakes happen during the game but this goes beyond that - and the official WAS looking right at him. This is not a judgement call (those I understand mistakes happen). Very glad that did not impact the game.

I realize that the shovel-fumble was a terrible call, but did anyone else notice LK run right onto the field to argue with the refs about it?  I have to feel like if that was an AD from any other college that would be a 15 yarder..

Greetings to all OAC/Mount brethren!

Nice to see Mount get the win this past Saturday.  I was at an event all day, and didn't hear/read anything until later that night.  It reminds me a bit of the Franklin game, where Mount was on the verge of completely destroying a team in the first half, but had the momentum switch dramatically in the second half.  Football is the craziest momentum shifting sport I have ever seen!

Jr.'s football "career" ended on Friday night with a win against Hoover's rival.  To say the least, it was the season from hell.  He suffered a concussion in week #3, and that kept him out two weeks.  Once he came back he never really regained his starting spot.  It was tough for a kid who had started since his sophomore year.  I am acting like one of those bitter parents, but Jr. just never connected with his head coach, and it reflected in his attitude this last year.  I told him repeatedly that we don't get to pick our coaches/bosses/relatives, and that just wait until he has to work for an a-hole.   8-)

However, on to bigger and better things.  Jr. has applied for an Army ROTC scholarship, as he has decided he wants to have a career in the Army.  We are now waiting on the first board to meet to see if he made it in the first group.  I think it will be good for him, but as a parent you still have some reservations if he ends up in "harms way" at some point.

Now that the high school football season is over for Jr., I am ready to attend the remaining Mount games as a fan.  I am definitely going to try to make the JCU game, so possibly Skunk & I can run into some of you at the game.

Keep on keeping on!   ;)

Dr. Acula

Welp, it's BW week.  The Jackets always play the Raiders tough.  Sometimes inexplicably so based on their talent level, to be honest.  This feels like one of those years.  If you haven't been following them this year, BW is just not good offensively.  As in "Needed a pick 6 with under a minute to go to hit double digits at half against Etta" bad.  They barely cracked 300 total yards and were outgained by the Pios Saturday.

Holt is back and healthy so that gives them a big time threat, but they haven't thrown much at all (111 yds/gm).  They've been getting him the ball on the ground though.  It looks like they're similar to Mount in that they have a couple RB's that get carries consistently and their QB's are active running the ball as well.  The problem for BW is that unlike Berg when Mount loads up against the run I don't think they can throw over it.

Mount locals might get to see old McKinley QB Kyle Ohradzansky too.  Not sure what happened, but Slack only had 1 carry for 6 yds and then Ohradzansky relieved him.  I've seen him in the box score almost every week so he's played already.

Sidekick:  A couple thoughts on your post.

1.  Crazy momentum swing in an understatement.   Mount dominates the 1st half.   Early 3rd quarter sees a sure-fire pick-6 that is dropped Chambers, then a dumb penalty on 3rd & 17 against Fetchko giving Heidi a 1st down and capped by the shuffle pass call.   In a matter of seconds, at least it seemed that way, Mount goes from in complete control to a dog fight.

2.  I'm sure having an A-hole as a Dad has prepared him well for real life.

3.  Congrats and good luck to Jr.
