Mother nature is supposed to cooperate as well.   Low 50's and sunny.   Great day for standing room only.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Was looking over some of the defensive # for JCU and it's quite impressive.
#1 in total defense (190 yds)
#1 in pass efficiency defense (62.95 rating)
#2 in pass defense (97.3 yds)
#14 in rushing defense (93.6 yds)
#1 in scoring defense (3.7 pts)
#1 in 3rd down conversion defense (20.3%)

Which makes some great contrasts to Mount Union's offense:
#2 in total offense (545 yds)
#1 in pass efficiency offense (188.78 rating)
#55 in pass offense (250 yds)
#8 in rushing offense (294 yds)
#2 in scoring offense (50.1 pts)
#1 in 3rd down conversion offense (63.6%)

Especially the huge difference in 3rd down conversion rates.   Other than turnovers, the game is likely decided right there. Should be a classic.

Wow! Thanks for the stats. Something's going to have to give. The game could ultimately be decided on a single play caused by perhaps a blown assignment, a wrong route, or just a freak bounce of the ball. When you look at these numbers, it points to a real slugfest!

ok, i have no dog in the fight and it is only tuesday, but i am really excited about making the trip to see this game.  it feels like a late round playoff game to me.  the numbers and stuff just add to the excitement.  i can feel it in the mount posts, they are excited by this game.  i hope to see as many of you as possible, from as many places as possible.  got to love D3 football, and I am lucky to have friends at mount who got me a ticket so I can get in.  thanks sidekick.

I would like to think VK was playing a vanilla offense against BW and saving the faccy stuff for this week. They really looked pretty plain on offense to me. Any comments.  ???

raiderguy,

You are correct! The plain vanilla offense is exactly what the game plan was. IMHO, the team
was just not into it against B-W.
It will be the opposite against JCU. It will be a (MHB playoff
atmoshere). I just hope that the officials are reasonable good, given what is at stake for this game. :-\

So if this is true, this is the first significant difference I've seen acknowledged on these boards that there is, in fact, a significant difference between VK and LK. I always read how LK had his team fully prepared each and every week, no matter the opponent. In everything I've read, I don't remember posts that an LK Raider team "just wasn't into it". That seems like a pretty big shift.

I can't go, but I agree. Is it a stretch to call this one of the biggest regular season games since this site's inception?  Obviously with both teams near lock to make the playoffs you can argue there's more at stake in some other games, and I remember the huge UWW-UMHB clashes a few years ago, but there's something about a legitimate 9-0 vs 9-0 clash involving the defending national champ that feels amazing.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Excited about this game?  Absolutely.  A little nervous?  You bet.  But for me it just doesn't seem to be up there with some of the past clashes amount has had and I think it comes down for two reasons for me personally...y'all are likely to feel differently.

First, for me is because I'm so far away from any DIII football and have had very little chance to follow things closely this year.  The other reason is that the one thing this game is missing is recent history.  JCU is coming off a few sub-par seasons and the recent games haven't been that close.  I'm sure this will be a great game, but at the moment it has the buildup of a one-off game as opposed to something building for a few years.

jaypeter,

I see where you are coming from on this point. One thing that is new is that the OAC title
comes down to the last game where the Mount opponent can actually win it. For me, that is the
biggest difference. That, and the fact that JCU brings in a great defense. The questions remain:

1. Can JCU play their game against the best opponent they have faced in the opponent's home
    field?

2. With the title on the line, how will either team respond to a turnover or a bad call or penalty?

3. Which new young HC makes the better adjustments?

4. How much will a packed home crowd affect the visitors?

5. Which QB makes the most of his opportunities when faced against great defenses?

6. And by the 4th quarter, which team plays with calmness and not tight as a drum when
each play carries so much weight in a close game? :)

It's that "one-off" feel that makes this game so exciting for me.   Feels very much like a regional final or semi-final game is being played on Saturday because of their great stats combined with a lack of intimate knowledge of JCU.   All we actually know is they have a stud QB and a coach that was a stud QB.   Outside of those 2 things, it's all speculation and number crunching comparisons that may or may not have any bearing on the game.   That feels like the playoffs.   And for the last 20+ years, the regular season pales in comparison to the excitement and intensity of the playoffs.

The new coaching staffs at both schools adds uncertainty and excitement to this game as well.   If VK is going to win his 1st OAC title, he's going to earn it.

Regardless of which team wins, both are making the playoff field.   And both will see a lesser opponent next week than they're seeing this week.

Is it Saturday yet?

As a former AD, I didn't think you could have a football game as "sold out"   ;)

the offense of john carroll has 5 starters from st. ignatius and 2 back ups.  looks like there is a path from west 25th and lorain to university hts.   the def. has none.  if the game is sold out, does that not mean there are no tks. left.  what they mean is all the seats where one can sit are gone.  if you care to stand, then tks. will be on sale sat.  is their a limit as to how many they can sell by the fire dept.

amonachino,

All seats at Mount Union Stadium are reserved and that is what is sold out ( I understand).
General Admission tickets (Standing room) are available. The stadium seats 5450, but will hold around 8,000.
Hope this helps!
