Tre Jones second team all region defense.????  It seems to me he should have made the all OFFENSIVE TEAM considering his performance against Wesley and before.  The man has never seen a pass except as it lands in the opposing players hands. Before you mention four interceptions I subscribe to the "a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and them"  Don't get me wrong I am  behind the Raiders 100% but a back fumbles a ball and he may never see the field again.....how about someone who can't seem to prevent big completion after big completion. I'm just saying.

Earlier some one mentioned the team yelling "ball " when a pass is in the air... might help out. It sure is better than hearing touchdown from the other sidelines. ::)

Spoke recently with a college (D1FCS) db coach about yelling "Ball".  He doesn't believe in that practice because once the DB turns to look for the ball, he slows down and on a deep ball the WR runs by him for the possible catch/long gain.

His philosophy was for the DB to keep running with the WR, watching the eyes and making a play once the WR puts his hands up to catch it.  I don't know how this affects play on back shoulder throws though.

Followup, I spoke with him again and asked specifically how he coaches the DBs.  This was his reply:

-I always coach to feel their hips with their hands. (Hips drop when they are about break off or make a cut)
-Play their eyes (eyes get bigger when the ball is coming)
-When the WR's hands go up knock them down.

Ed Warinner is being mentioned for the BG job.  That'd make for an interesting rivalry game with Toledo for Mount fans. Which former Raider do you root for??  Warinner's name has also been floated for the Army job so hopefully he gets a shot somewhere.

joelmama

That would be interesting.  Ed has not been a head coach anywhere although he has had a ton of high profile positions at OSU, Notre Dme, Air Force, Kansas etc.

I kid Ed when I see him and tell him he was the last Mount QB that was not very good.  I wont repeat what he replies to that.

RoyalPurple

Well according to the BCS guru Mr Massey, Mount might as well stay home, but he had us as 13 point underdogs last week and I won't repeat his OSU / MSU prediction. It's why they play the games.
and
Who would ever predict that any coach down 4 points late in a game and on the five yard line kicks a field goal? Great confidence in your defense? or No confidence in your offense.

After watching both games today IMHO Linfield would have beaten Whitewater at home and NCC would have beaten MUC at home. I know it's a would of should of thing but that's what home field advantage does. UMHB didn't look that good to me. They deserved to loose at home. Especially when they kicked the field goal with 3 minutes left being down by 4 on the 4 yard line....they should have a play for that for the score....just my opinion.

BTW....I'm picking MUC for the title...there is no stopping your QB. Whitewater is very vanilla.

You're right. We're no good. We just can't do it!

Are you kidding me? We are a play away, perhaps two, of going to two Stagg bowls. I mean, I know that doesn't compare to the top two teams of the last 9 years, but still.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

You'll have to excuse Bluenote, 2001. He is an opinionated and outspoken Linfield fan. He sees things through the fog of Linfield purple and red, along with an ongoing frustration that Linfield doesn't host more home playoff games. UMHB is right there among the nation's top 5 and 99% of D3 fans know it.  Congrats on a great season for the Cru.

Alright Mount guys, who is making the trip.  Stone Station is making their return this year also.  You know it wont be hard to find us.  See you all on Friday.  Weather looks nice if the rain holds off.  60 is good to me, sun or no sun.  I am getting in on Thursday around 7 or so, at least that is the plan.  Will be heading out for a beverage or 2 once I check in.  If anyone has any plans for a specific spot let me know, be glad to join you.  I was checking out a couple of micro brew restaurants in the area and since I am a beer snob I am thinking one of them for grub/beer.

HScoach

I'll be in around 2:30 on Friday afternoon.

Regrettably i won't be able to make it to Salem for this game.  :(  With a family member going through chemo and others that helped with the big tailgate unable to be there, we've opted for a small get together with the big screen and watch the game. Will truly miss being there as we have been there so many times before and its always been like home away from home. HAve a beer on me Wesleydad, and hope we can meet up again soon!

OLINEMOM:
I will definitely miss those brownies and the Stone Station crew, by the sounds of the forecast its going to be a wonderful day! At least the weather won't be like it was when i had to drive you and the brownies down to the stadium the nearly 2 foot of snow! LOL what a time that was. Please take care and wish you all the very best this holiday season.

GO RAIDERS!! Bring home the walnut and bronze!!

Why does it not surprise me that Massillon has an indoor practice facility? My mom's family all graduated from Canton McKinley, so I grew up watching Tigermania first-hand.

I was a little remiss this weekend and didn't announce the results of the Round 4 Pick-Em.  [took too long to get the BP back down, I guess].  rams1102 and Shark took weekly honors with 10 points; rams1102 thus moves into an uncomfortable lead over FCGrizzliesGrad.

The spread for the Stagg Bowl is posted.  And although I told HSCoach that I was going to set an actual spread, I changed my mind.  There was only one number appropriate for these two teams that know each other so well ... D3's best offense versus D3's best defense.  Even-up, boys!

As usual, there are a slew of 2-point bonus questions, so most everyone still has a chance at this.

Remember to get your picks in before the 7:00 kick-off on Friday.  Like many of you, I will be on the road so I won't be able to nag you.

Good luck, everyone!  And safe travels!
