Raider 68

Congrats to the Raiders for an exciting season! You will back again and we are all very proud of you! :)
13 time Division III National Champions

Mr. Ypsi

As I suspected, you have to go back almost 40 years to find a UMU defeat this bad.  In 1974, they lost to Wittenberg, 48-0.

nice meeting all the mount fans today.  great tailgate, thanks for stopping by.  As I told many today, this result did not surprise me at all.  Defense is not good and ran into a superior defense of UWW and you get the result we saw tonight.  did not think it would be this bad, but when some things go wrong, pick 6 adds to result, you get the beat down.  Mount has some work to do on defense if they are to stay at the top of D3.  that was not a good effort at all.  Never really in the game.  safe travels and happy holidays.

It was a good season with some exciting wins.  But this was an embarrassment.  Outplayed in every phase of the game, and very definitely out-coached. VK and his staff have a lot of work to do.

Ditto. :P  It was very hard to watch, but I watched it all.

I wish Mount lost by a point last week to avoid worst loss in 40 years in front of a national audience.

On the plus side, VK received a coaching lesson he can learn from and 14-1 first season as HC is a very good start.

You guys obviously know much more about Mount's situation than I, however, do you really place that much of the blame on VK?  From what I saw in the game, I don't think the game plan was the problem, rather it was simply poor play performance on all aspects.  Most of you have commented all season that the defensive secondary has been a big problem and, of course, this evening, they didn't help the cause.  However, I will say that from what I observed, it was not due to wrong defensive schemes - they were for much of the evening in the right place with good coverage -they just simply didn't make the plays and UW-W's receivers made great catches and their QB was dead-on accurate for most of the game.  Same goes for the offensive and defensive line - no offensive blocking and protection broke down for Burke, defensive pressure on UW-W's QB was minimal and, of course, UW-W's line dominated Mount's defensive line.  And, as others have mentioned, unfortunately Burke just had a very uncharacteristic poor performance night - he couldn't rescue his team this time.

So, IMO, it was basically Mount having poor play all around that lost them the game and unless you guys know of some special offensive and defensive schemes that VK and his staff had hiding and didn't use, I'm not sure even those and/or some trick plays would have saved them this evening.  It was just their time and UW-W is a good team and rose to the occasion.

Regardless, while you all are obviously disappointed as the players and coaches are too, they still had a very good season and simply getting back to the Stagg again as they did this year and have in recent years still puts your program in the position of having everyone else in the chase (and I guess we can say that about UW-W too).  Anyway, just MO on tonight's game.

Good points, but I think it is the coaches responsibility to put your players in the best position to succeed and leaving that secondary in man-to-man was not the right move, which didn't work the last 5 games. Yes, players have to execute, but sometimes you need to realize you do not have the tools to play a certain defense. Nevertheless, like you, I am no expert on the machine, just a big fan of Division III football.

If the only time in any sport you lose to the better team, then you are very successful.   This was not in Aug. a great team.  All the flaws last night were clear.  The off. line was overwhelmed.  32 yds. rushing.  The def. line got blocked and created running lanes.  No sacks, no pressure, poor tackling.  Burke did as well as he good while being chased to death.  UWW was on and played their best game this yr. So, now the shoe is on the other foot.  It is Mount that has to close the gap to get ready to play this team again.  They were stronger, quicker, faster, more confident in playing us.  With that all said, this season was one that a team went 14-0 and in the stagg bowl.  If this loss makes you upset with the program and you feel that something is wrong, then you do not know what you have until you lose it.  This loss did not hurt any where as much as the others, due to the fact that we were the team that was second best by far 52-14.  the turn overs and penalties, and any other things that went wrong did not matter, we were not going to win this game .  WE GOT BEAT BAD BY AN OUTSTANDING TEAM, that we could not handle at all. This season was fun and exciting and we went as far as we could, that is all you can ask of your players.  Starting today we prepare to get much better.  Life goes on.  GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  2014=12.

The game plan was not the problem, and Whitewater was no doubt the better team.  Had Mount played the best game they could I'm not sure they could have won this game.  What bothers me is that I don't think this group is fundamentally sound, and that was apparent the last three weeks.  Since I believe these players have the talent and ability, I have to credit the mistakes and weak fundamentals to coaching.  That is why I said VK and his staff have a lot of work to do.

It was a great season.  14-1 is nothing to complain about.  I'm being too critical, all this is true, I just think this group can be better and it's coachings job to get them there.

Mount fans: While I did not get to wa+ch last night's game live, I was very fortunate to see Mount in person twice this year. i was impressed by everything at Mount and hope my daughter decides to enroll next year! You guys hae an amazing program. How many teams could lose what you did and still get to the Stagg undefeated!! I can tell you that  my son would have traded any award for just one National Championship game! You'll be back, most likely stronger than ever. Thanks for an enjoyable season-what a ride!

That was painful last night to be sure, but I came to the realization that the fact of the matter is that this team overachieved by getting to Salem.  They have A LOT of work to do on defense.  They got shredded by every good offense they saw this year.  The D line got very little pressure all year and zero last night. In fact, I don't recall the D line making a play at all.  The overall poor tackling by the entire defense was frustrating too.

The secondary I thought played okay.  They did what I expected I guess.  After seeing Kumerow and Huber I knew they weren't going to get any separation. They're just not those type of guys.  So you just hope Behrendt can't squeeze the ball in. He did.  And those guys went up and made plays too.  Does it drive me nuts that they don't play the ball?  Yup. But I also have to give them credit...Jones and Chambers were in those guys' hip pocket all night.

Offensively yet again it's the same old story against UWW.  Turnovers and their front 4 beating our O line.  It's hard to run against them normally, let alone with what we can call an avg O line.  That also makes it hard to pass when they can get to Burke with their front 4.  Turnovers and dominating us on both lines...it's their recipe and it works.

Lots of work to do for next year. They only have 1 starter returning.  Or at least that's how they should be approaching it because only 1 guy should already be penciled in as a starter today.  Don't take that as me calling for everyone to be benched. Just mean that every position except QB is an open competition.

skunks_sidekick

That was a total butt-whipping!  Kudos to UWW....they were clearly the superior team.

Time to make that drive back to Ohio.  Sigh....it will seem a lot longer after that game last night.

Great seeing all my D-III buds at the tailgate, and as always thank you Stone Station for putting on an awesome spread!

SS is OUT!

Oh......Merry Christmas to all!
