Shouldn't Zach Strippy be a defensive player?

QuoteWe saw today that Mount Union may have the best special teams in D3

I accept your may and raise you a West of The Rockies.

So Mount Union may have the best special teams West of the Rockies?

Technically speaking, if you keep going around the globe, everything is west of the Rockies?

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Hrmmm...inside info for a spread adjustment?  We'll all have to be on the lookout to make sure we don't get caught! ;)

Mount Union's special teams were good today, but they will admit they could have been better today.

Ruhnke had a couple of well positioned punts but shanked his first punt badly.  Ruhnke kickoff into the wind to start the second half was ugly.

Kennedy had 72 yards in punt returns, but on two consecutive punts by JCU deep in their own territory and kicking into the wind Kennedy setup so deep he had no chance to field the punts both of which got close to 15 or more additional yards.

I point is that Mount Union today played well, but at same time for most of the day played conservative.  Mount Union is playing well at right time of the year, but has the chance to get even better.

Technically speaking, if you keep going around the globe, everything is west of the Rockies?

I may not get a chance to watch MUC on STO tonight, but the Buckeyes are doing their best Mount Union monkey-stomp impersonation.   :o

Still going to be the odd team out unless FSU collapses. So thankful for our AQ system

Often wind is an issue in Alliance and I think Mount's experience with adjusting to the wind is often an advantage for Mount.  Normally the wind blows from the South but at today's game the wind was the opposite direction blowing North to South.  I image there have been games, but I can't remember a big game in which the wind was lowing from the North.

Wisconsin played uninspired football yesterday and got their butts kick all over the field.

It wasn't Whitewater, but their big brothers the Badgers get whoop on by a good team from Ohio.

Going into that game I didn't give the Buckeyes much of a chance.  OSU had far superior talent, but was a team that often lacked focus and discipline.  Down to their 3rd team QB who had a reputation for 1.) not being able to go directly from High School to D1 football at a school that requires acceptable grades, 2.) tweeting in the past after he did get to OSU why do the football players have to go to classes.

The OSU coaching staff was unable to get their team focused enough at critical times in the season.  At best going into yesterday's game I was hoping that somehow OSU would be competitive and if they they did win then hopefully they would get a good bowl game which with a win it would set them up for next year.  Surely with JT hurt and on the sidelines they would have no chance to move up to one of the 4 spots for the playoffs.  Next year would be their year.  After watching the impressive beat down win against a good Wisconsin team and absolutely taking away the badger's strengths I like many think the Buckeyes are surely in the top 4 teams in D1.  Those four teams look to be playing at a level that separates them from the others, but the only problem is that their is one D1 team that hasn't lost a game in two years.  Florida State isn't as good of a team as the other four I referenced above.  There is a very good chance as a result of this dilemma OSU won't get in, but if not I'm sure their situation will be a catalyst for the playoffs expanding to 8 teams in the near future.

What help wake up the young Buckeyes and get them focused?  Was it the loss of JT and the difficuly position that put them in with little time available to properly prep Jones?  That might have contributed to "our backs against the wall" response but I think a big reason for the sudden focus was the teams reaction to the tragic loss of their team mate which they learned on last Sunday.

I just finished reading Tim warsinkey's article in the plain dealer on yesterday's Mount Union John Carrol game.  Damn I feel bad that I tried to defend him a few weeks back when he was attacked on this board becuase he deserves to be attached for being a homer.  Maybe that is what he gets paid to do, being a homer, but his writing today didn't reflect well upon him as a college football writer.

In tim's article he mentioned JCU was knocking on the door for the win at the end of the game in the last two previous meetings though in actuality they were trying to tie.  Tim's other observation was that JCU lost two touchdowns on a non pass inference call and the run back of an incomplete pass for a touchdown. Not much praise for the Radiers but a lot of ammunition for JCU fans to feel they get robbed every time they play in Alliance.

In reality itwas a hard fought game yesterday by both teams and the better team won.  If the better team didn't play so conservative against JCU I'm sure the last two wins would have been by larger margins.

Hey maybe I'm a homer too, but I don't give a crap about it because this is the OACS board and I went to both games and saw the live action which I question that warsinkey's did.

First of all, congratulations to Mt Union for yet another trip to the semis. The sustained excellence is both admirable and enviable. As for this statement, I have seen similar such statements ever since the first JCU/UMU meeting. It seems to suggest Mt Union took it easy on JCU in both contests, which would imply they let them win by just 1 possession both times.

Conservative can also mean they didn't take chances because JCU has the weapons to hurt you and take advantage of being over aggressive. Please explain.

I wouldn't call it conservative.    I'd call it struggling on offense because you're going against a really good defense.

I was about to post the same thing.  Give credit where it's due.  JCU is a very good football team and any troubles Mount had on offense were largely created by JCU's defense.

+K on that. JCUs D was doing almost everything right. I agree that Mount was conservative - but for a reason. I still wish they would have burned more clock on a few later drives. Oh well, on to the semis.

Saw this and thought "wow, I have heard alot of reasons for losing - but this is new".

Wow.  OSU vs Alabama.    The old saying "be careful what you ask for" immediately comes to mind.....
