Happy New Year. Is it August yet?

I'm looking out my window at several inches of snow.  Even in Michigan, I sure HOPE this isn't August! ;)

Mr. Ypsi:

You have all that snow now, but here, looking out the window in Michigan, ours is almost all melted today and continuing as we speak.  I shoveled snow yesterday for quite some time, but should have waited because it is almost gone and could have saved myself a lot of effort/energy.  On the other hand, a little exercise never hurts anyone I guess. ;D

It will be interesting to see the remaining bowl games tomorrow and then look forward to seeing the DIII players in the Hula Bowl.  I HOPE the latter guys do very well.

Jamal Robertson touchdown run puts Panthers up 34-3 in the third quarter against the Falcons.

Now, living here in the "ArkLaTex" (Shreveport-Bossier City LA), I generally don't get to see the NFL games that a "yankee" may be more interested in viewing unless I go to Buffalo Wild Wings or Hooter's (twist my arm), even though the Cleveland Clowns usually disappoint.  However, today, I was happy that the Carolina-Atlanta game was the local feature.  Last week, Jamal had 4 returns for 100+ yards...26.5 yard average (an NCAC'er can tell me the exact total yards), so I wanted to see him shine some more.  But, because they (Carolina) were doing so well, I got switched to the "'Aints" game shortly after the Carolina-Atlanta halftime.  Bummer.

Oh, yeah!  Rub it in! >:(

An oddity in the Patriots game today - Doug Flutie had the first successful drop lick in the NFL since 1941!!  I'd forgotten there even was such a thing.  Is it scored and treated like a FG?

New Years Day and as I nurse a "hangover" of sorts caused by trying to play basketball and dodgeball for three hours last night with a lot of my high school kids and all that is on TV is a bunch of meaningless NFL games. Of course tomorrow when half the world and half the schools go back to work; bowl games start at 11:00 AM.

In other news: Lake Superior State University on Saturday released its 2006 "List of Words and Phrases Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness."  High on that list was "Community of Learners", to in no way to be confused with "school."

It appears that he hasn't figured out how to take maximum advantage of his life's limited opportunities although he has had more and better opportunities than the average person..

Raiders have only 4 Home games in 2006,BUMMER. However they will have 6 Home games in 2007

reality check

I know I am obviously biased but every time Jamal gets a chance, he seems to hold his own.  I am happy he got a chance to run the ball today and get his second NFL TD.  He was a forgotten man on the Carolina roster for most of the season.  This could be bittersweet because Foster will be the starting back next season and Eric Shelton returns from IR.  I don't know about Davis, but Goings is still very much in the mix as well as Smart.  I just hope this isn't Jamal's swan song.

Jamal's career NFL stats:

62 carries for 248 yards (4.0 YPC) and 2 TD's.
58 KR's for 1325 yards (22.8 Average) 0 TD's.

His 4.0 average is better than that of 17 teams in the NFL this season.

I would not anticipate Stephen Davis coming back.

Carolina RB situation looks like this

Foster
Shelton
Goings
Hoover(FB)

Then either Robertson or Smart, whichever helps on special teams the most.  They carried 5 TBs plus Hoover most of the year because Smart and Robertson did conribute on special teams.  They may do the same thing next year, but I have a hard time seeing them keeping that many running backs again.

If Samkon Gado has a job in the NFL then Jamal Robertson should have one as well.

Actually no.  I haven't talked to Troy for several years.  We both moved to So Cal about the same time.  I even recruited him to play on my comapnies softball team for a year.   He could hit the thing a country mile.   I'm not sure he saw too many country miles growing up in Collinwood though.

He left high scholl coaching for a brief time and I think he coached at a d3 school (Cal Lutheran maybe) then went back to Taft.  I understand he is well respected as a premier high school coach in So Cal now.

Now that Dom Capers is unemployed, you suppose he'd like to like to come home and hang out with Kehres again?  :)
