HSC,

You retiring or just sick of Ric?

Raider 68

A few thoughts on the Stagg Bowl;

Congrats to the Warhawks on a well played game and responding to scoring run by the Raiders:

1. To me the most important reasons why Mount fell short were the amount and timing of penalties and the
5 turnovers against a great team.

2. With the score 30-14, the Raiders showed a lot of grit in scoring 17 straight point, but gave up the big play too often.

3. IMHO, the O line was decent this game, sure K. Burke did not have as much time as he wanted, it was enough.

4. Nemeth ran well and had some blocking. He would be my starter in 2015.

5. The D line was aggressive at times, but Behrendt had the time to find his receivers. The corners gave up too much
room and the short passes were there all night. Only later in the game did the corners move up in coverage.

6. K. Burke was throwing high all night and he was just off. Some was due to hurried throws, other times he just missed his
    receivers.

7. UWW executed their game plan well, but they did exactly what I thought they would so no surprise to anyone.

For 2015, the Raiders return 14 starters, enough to really build another great team.

Thanks Raiders for a great season! :)

Better performing team won last night. Congrats to WWW.  They are the new "dynasty', but until they win 1 more than Mount, I won't call them the best ever D3 program.
Burke was human last night.  pressure, tried to force some things.
I thought the dropped pick six was huge and the int when Meacham was mugged over the middle was another big play.  Huge call on the screen for a TD.  Mount just scored and was going to bring the house to stop the first rush and bingo, its 5 on three to the end zone.  Great call,

I have to wonder now if WWW is in Mount Union's head and if the Raiders will ever play well against them.  They sure have not been themselves on the field against the Warhawks. But give credit to the WWW coaches and players, they make the plays....and Mount has lacked consistency to win the big one lately.

I don't see Mounts picture as a terribly rosy one, as QB may be a crapshoot next year.  I would guess its Scott.

I thought relative to other UWW games the Mount O line played pretty well.  Nemeth had holes and hit them for nice yardage.  I mean, they averaged 6.9 ypc and outrushed UWW.  I think every one of us would have turned a cartwheel over those outcomes on their own.

The defense UWW was using was daring Mount to rush too which partially leads to those rushing numbers. Mount didn't take advantage of it as much as I thought they would, but their strength all year as been Burke and the passing game so I can understand why they would have went in that route.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the 15-yard penalty was about at the UWW 7, a play after Tre's interception?  The referee signaled an unsportsmanlike penalty, but his mike cut out during his long description of the foul.

In the box score, it only says "personal foul" with no name attached.

The final results of the OAC Post-season Pick-Em are posted.

desertcat1 made up for last week's poor showing with a strong 19 out of 25 points.

But no one was able to catch up to Raider 68.  His three-point lead from last week was enough to keep all challengers at bay and make him the 2014 OAC Post-Season Pick-Em Championship.

Thank you all for playing again this year.  See you again in August.

Happy Holidays to all!

Yeah, it seemed like they decided to ride Burke's arm.  I can't fault that logic.  We would be screaming if they lost trying to run the ball instead, that's for sure. They were having success passing as well.  The odd thing to me was that in very un-UWW vs Mount fashion I didn't feel like either D could get stops consistently without a critical mistake by the opposing offense.  UWW kept converting 3rd downs with ease, Mount scored quickly when they put together clean series.Didn't each team only punt a couple times?  That's not what I usually expect when these two play.

Congrats to Mount Union on a great season. Although I'm sure the final outcome is disappointing, I know I would be really proud of how they came back to take the lead in the third quarter.  Best possible wishes to the seniors. I have no doubt they will carry on the tradition of D3 athletes making a positive impact in the world.

As far as the bolded sentence above, I can't imagine anyone in all of D3-land, including all UW-W fans, agreeing completely.  What Mount has accomplished and continues to accomplish can not and should not be detracted from.  Despite the many Stagg Bowl battles, there is still room for celebrating the accomplishments of both programs.  Personally, I hope both programs continue to get better.  IMO, it would be much better for D3 for other teams to join them at the top than for either program to regress.

Dr. Acula

Agreed, bp.  They push the level of play higher and higher.  That's a good thing.
