I had to start from scratch.  From tagging them to each player, clipping, spot-shadowing, and picking the order.  I had to clean up a lot of the stats along the way because some of the plays I knew should be tagged weren't showing up.  HUDL is awesome, don't get me wrong.  But there was a lot of work to do as well.

I make the kids tag their own highlights and then I put together the final product for them.  Puts the onus on them to do some work.

Yeah but I feel like they don't understand what is and isn't worthy of a highlight all the time.  They tag their own but I still had to do a lot of cleaning up along the way.

I find it amusing on how many plays my players actually tag as a highlight.  I may have to hold a seminar to go over it with them.  They'll totally be out of position, make terrible reads, get lucky when a player cuts back to them and they make a tackle 20 yards downfield and they'll tag it.

LOL!! Go through this all the time with the kids. They'll show me their "highlight" picks, then I'll tell them what a coach will see when he looks at it. Needless to say, their highlights get "trimmed down" a little after that!

So I played before Hudl was a thing (wayyy back in the early 2000's) and making my highlight tape was an arduous process of cutting and pasting from game tapes, but a few thoughts here: the kids may not be sure how many "highlights" they will have (or are supposed to have).  I was an offensive and defensive lineman, and I remember trying to put together a highlight tape after my sophomore season and finding, like, four plays that were actual "highlight" plays.  The rest were basically "Oh, you controlled the gap you were supposed to on a sweep to the other side" or "you sealed off your man nicely on the backside of a 70-yard TD run" plays.  So I don't blame the kids a little for casting a wide net from the start.

I am sure you guys are right, and I'm not really disagreeing, just thinking out loud about why kids might tag a few extra "highlight" plays that don't make the final cut.

Totally correct, but once a kid 'Tags' a play as a highlight, a college coach who goes to their HUDL profile will see any plays that they have tagged (even if they haven't compiled them into a 'Premium Highlight' film).  HUDL will show each players "Highlights" from each game.

HUDL has definitely made things easier, but kids need to understand what they are putting out there.

At the risk of being stoned in the public square after the game I believe this is the 10 year anniversary of Mount's last conference loss to ONU! WOW.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Can we get a few contemporary references...what are guys, like seventy

40's. Sorry but modern films are more about how many cars can be destroyed, how many explosions can be stuffed into 2 hours, and how much CGI can replace actors. Plus - minoring in Russian Literature and Film has gotten me so far in life! ;D

As far as the ONU upset of Mount in the game known as "The plague of toads" - I am searching for a good stone now and will meet you in the square later! Could have gone another 10 years without that reference. Today WILL NOT be a repeat. Roll Raiders ~ Roll!!

Good point raiderguy. Last regular season loss period.  I think that streak is at 98 games if I'm remembering the game notes correctly.  If ONU beats them in Alliance on Homecoming with a freshman QB we may need to start bracing ourselves for the 2025 ONU game now because it's not going to end well.

Huh? Gotta bring it down a couple of notches....just regular folk here

Looks like Mount is breaking out those gun metal grey uniforms for the first time.

14 yard Mitchell TD makes it 7-0 early.  Big play on the drive was a Namdar 42 yd catch.

14-0. Nemeth from a yard out.  The Bears' D needs to clamp down on the run or this isn't going to be pretty.  Mount is having a pretty easy time on the ground.

53 yd keeper on the read option by Scott.  He also had a 21 yd scramble a couple plays prior so he is nearing 100 yds rushing.  21-0.

Tre Jones jumps an out route and picks it off and races 38 yds for the score.  28-0.

It's 44-0 after short scoring runs from Nemeth and Johnson.  Nemeth, Mitchell and Scott each have over 100 yds rushing.  Nemeth has to be approaching 150.

Johnson tacks on his 2nd score as Mount eclipses 400 yds rushing on the day. 51-0.

So close. Magazine scores on 4th and goal from the 1 foot line with 14 seconds left.  51-7.  It was funny watching the starting D motivating the backups coming out of the timeout before the play.  I'm guessing a little "Let's go. Don't lose our shutout."

Watching the mount stream...very nicely done

Curious what, if anything Mount did to honor/remember/mourn/note the student's death today. Feel free to PM if you want. Thank you.

Moment of silence before the game--dedicated the half time show to her--the teams and cheerleaders met on field after the game for a group prayer.  She was in the band and her brother is on the football team.
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

Thanks for letting me know. I learned of her connections with game day--was in the flags, too--and have been trying to follow the updates this week. Have emailed with a couple faculty and staff who were connected with Sydney.

After ONU's initial drive (8 plays, 27 yds) the Mount starting D posted the following against the Bears:

3 and out
3 and out
3 and out
Pick 6 (4 plays)
3 and out
3 and out
3 and out
3 and out
3 and out
3 and out

10 straight possessions of 4 plays or less.  That's an absolutely stellar defensive performance today.  ONU has some weapons and the defense turned up the heat this week to another level.  Well done.
