I think Cap made it at 8-2 during the Pentello era.

Care to narrow that down a bit? That could be anywhere from creation of dirt to yesterday. ;D

Still burns that CAP got the nod in 2005 when ONU was 8-2 as well with the first victory over Mount Union in OAC play since the Lincoln presidency.

Capital beat ONU head to head, at ONU.

I appreciate the fact that ONU lost to CAP by two at home but...

ONU beat Mount at Mount and Mount.  Mount hadn't lost a regular season OAC game since '94 (I believe it was 98 games) and they haven't lost another OAC regular season contest in the last 88 games.

I realize it was close but I remember on Selection Sunday back in 2005, a lot of people, not just myself, felt that taking down the mighty Mount was going to count for more than what Capital did during Pentello's 4th junior season (redshirt).

Wasn't ONU ineligible for the postseason that year?

"The NCAA Division III Committee on Infractions has placed Ohio Northern University on two years probation and banned its football team from 2005 postseason competition for conducting a number of impermissible out-of-season practices."

Are you sure you remember that Selection Sunday correctly?

(I'm not trying to stir **** up about something in the long past, I just thought I vividly remembered that ONU was ineligible for the postseason the year they beat Mount)

I can't find the archived story from the D3 site after the game...if Pat can dig it up, does it mention anything about ONU's ineligibility?

I thought the HC was fired when ONU learned of it and was hoping it would have sway with NCAA. I don't want to stir up crap either - but I seem to remember the firing took a number by surprise.

I agree, and maybe the postseason ban was retracted later after the firing?

But if it wasn't, that suggests that ONU wasn't snubbed in Pool C, because they were never part of the conversation to begin with.

All I could find was this:
http://www.daily-jeff.com/local%20sports/2005/09/22/ohio-northern-banned-from-postseason-gets-two-years-probation

Really just shows they had a 2 year ban, HC was suspended just before 2003 season and then fired. Article was published 9/21/05 and states they were placed on probation "Wednesday". So that would have wiped out selection for 2005 post season since it was before the playoffs started and they would not therefore have been eligible for selection that year.

Any thoughts on the Mount - Berg game? I looked at the box score from Berg/ONU and not really much to go on, besides I really hate to look at common opponents. ONU was able to throw and run on Berg, and Berg was really shut down after halftime. I want to see if Mount tries to work on the passing game this week. As mentioned earlier - TS needs some work.

There's a big, beautiful planet out there!!   :D

If doesn't collide with ours before Saturday morning, make sure you get your OAC Pick-Em selections in.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

@d3jason

Saw in newspaper agate "Today in Sports" that it is the anniversary of Mount winning it's 48th straight to pass Oklahoma in 1999. Also listed was 2004 when the Raiders won their 100th straight home game.

It's especially hard in this case because Berg has had a different QB since the ONU game.  I think Berg is going to have little to no success slowing down the Mount offense.  Their offense will be pretty good, but nowhere near enough.  I'd say something like 42-14 is best case scenario for Berg.

FYI for those making picks...

2/3 of Cap's starting offensive backfield is out this week.  Actually they were out last week too.  One was a late scratch and the other was injured in the first quarter.

Thanks for that (seriously)- it makes me feel a little better about my pick.

BTW: Anyone know the cost/time for the Mount pre-game brunch? I am taking my daughters to the Mount/OTT game and didn't see any info on the website.
